What if the greatest danger to a free society isn't disagreement, poverty, or politics, but an unreasonable spirit? A spirit that can't be persuaded, can't be satisfied, and has traded the language of reason for the language of force.Recorded October 21, 2026, in the wake of the riots and protests across Europe. Alan Dershowitz's book Why Terrorism Works, walking page by page through his chart of terrorist acts against the benefits they actually won. He asks when a grievance stops being an argument and becomes a threat, and what a culture learns when intimidation gets rewarded. From there he goes to Scripture: Cain, the mob before Pilate, Christ who absorbed violence instead of dispensing it, Isaiah's call to "reason together," and Abraham and Lot's quarrel in Genesis 13.To watch this episode of TRUTH TALK check out our YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@truthtalkpodOTHER SOCIAL MEDIA podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/truth-talk/id1604450094 https://open.spotify.com/show/5NH25dFDo5Im2ndsR94bEBhttps://www.instagram.com/truthtalk.podcast
The Inner Man

The Inner Man

Is body dysmorphia a "false body" or a fallen nature? Paul's "inner man" vs. Rogers, Freud, Jung, and Susie Orbach's "inner body." Part 2 of the series. What does the Bible say about body dysmorphia, self-loathing, and body image? In this episode we compare Pauline theology with modern psychology: Freud ("know yourself"), Jung ("integrate yourself"), Carl Rogers ("accept yourself"), and Jesus ("deny yourself"). Then we look at psychotherapist Susie Orbach's idea of the "inner body" and the "false body," and ask what Paul would say about it.In this episode:• Freud, Jung, and Rogers: what each says is wrong with us and what each says we need• Why Rogers' self-actualization may be the most dangerous idea of the three• The Moses leprous hand (Exodus 4): what happens when we keep reaching inside ourselves• Susie Orbach's "inner body" and "false body" vs. Paul's "old man"• Body dysmorphia is real. Here is why it is still not who you are• "In everything give thanks": gratitude as a response to body image struggles• The bird flying over your head vs. the bird building a nest in your hair• Why Paul sees body distress as a symptom of a deeper spiritual problem• 2 Corinthians 4:16: the outward man perishing while the inward man is renewed day by day• The goal: not an accurately embodied self, but Christ dwelling in you (Ephesians 3:17)KEY TAKEAWAY: Psychology often seeks accurate embodiment and self-acceptance. Paul seeks regeneration. The question isn't only "How do I feel about my body?" but "How is Christ transforming who I am?"Scriptures referenced: Romans 7, 2 Corinthians 4:16, 2 Corinthians 10:5, Ephesians 3:16-17, Galatians 6:3, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Exodus 4Book mentioned: Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch AlbomNote: The speaker is a pastor and theologian, not a licensed mental health professional. Body dysmorphia, the "inner man," and what the Bible says about identity: Paul's inward man vs. Freud and Jung's inner self. Psychology asks "Who am I?" Paul asks "Whose am I?"In this episode, we use body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) as a starting point to compare how modern psychology and Pauline theology understand the inner person. Both agree there is an invisible inner life of motives, desires, and identity. They disagree sharply on what's wrong with us and how we change. We look at:- What body dysmorphic disorder is, and how an ideal or loathed self-image can detach from reality- Paul's "inward man" in Romans 7:22, 2 Corinthians 4:16, and Ephesians 3:16- Freud's id, ego, and superego, and Jung's shadow, archetypes, and "abyss of the inner world"- Why introspection helps but can turn into isolation and self-absorption- Rogers, Maslow, and the push toward self-actualization and authenticity- Cognitive dissonance vs. Paul's war in the members (Romans 7)- Dysfunction vs. sin: two different diagnoses of the human problem- Insight vs. repentance, union with Christ, and mortifying the flesh (Romans 6)- Why the goal is Christ-likeness, not a more authentic self- How to use introspection and Christian counseling without stopping at insightKEY TAKEAWAY: Introspection is not the enemy, but self-discovery was never the destination. Paul's answer to the inner struggle is transformation and the discovery of Christ.Scriptures referenced: Romans 6, Romans 7, 2 Corinthians 4:16, Ephesians 3:16, 1 John 2:16, Luke 1:45Note: Douglas Walker is a pastor and theologian, not a licensed psychologist. In the 1890s, Ivan Pavlov noticed his dogs salivating before the food even arrived. That accidental discovery became classical conditioning: the idea that repeated stimuli can train an automatic response. Now zoom out. The notifications, headlines, and algorithms around us are stimuli too, and they're shaping how we react every day.In this episode of Truth Talk, we look at how the world conditions us to respond on cue, and ask whether we're choosing our reactions or just repeating them.Listen now, then send it to someone who needs to hear it.
