How can you keep score without being defined by the scoreboard?
In this episode, Jeff and Cary discuss:
Lessons learned during the first year with no profit in a family company.
Stewardship versus entitlement - understanding the paradigm that God owns it all.
Doing what God calls you to do as the next right thing.
Riding the elevator of business, both up and down.
Key Takeaways:
God is always teaching us lessons, even if it takes until we meet Him again to understand fully.
Marriage is a partnership, and in a good partnership, when things go well, they're twice as good because you get to share them. And when things go bad, they're half as bad because you've got somebody else to carry the weight.
When we start to see God’s blessings as entitlements, it is going to suck the joy out of life.
Find somebody whose life you respect, take them to lunch, talk to them, and ask them how they navigated some of these questions of stewardship and entitlement.
"I don't know if this is right for everybody else, but my conclusion is, God always wants me to struggle with it. He always wants me to be asking the question, ‘Is this becoming about me and my lifestyle or the stewardship of what I entrusted to you?’" — Cary Brown

What is your theology of God and money?
In this episode, Jeff and David discuss:
Discovering and grounding the roots of your faith.
Identifying the principles found in Infinite Returns.
Comparing the stories of the Rich Young Ruler, Boaz, and Zacchaeus.
Prioritizing grace and relationships over money.
Key Takeaways:
You have never “arrived” with your faith. God is infinite in His wisdom; we should always be aware that there is more to learn.
There will always be tension; the question is, are you letting it work for you or against you?
Success is not a sin. But it is your choice on what you do with the success that you have.
Greed is not always about money. It could be about status, title, or coveting something that you don’t have or idolizing something you do.
"We replace that [anxious] thought with, ‘God is in control. God owns everything. He is my source.’ So instead of thinking that anxiety, or when that anxiety comes up again, we replace it with some sort of form of Scripture. " — David Sebastian
About David Sebastian: David Sebastian is a CPA, family office advisor, and student of biblical wisdom who works with entrepreneurs and high-net-worth families on stewardship, investing, and generational wealth strategy. Through his work, he helps business owners align financial decisions with deeper purpose and eternal perspective. Have you ever considered how you can give to God’s passion?
In this episode, Jeff and Paul discuss:
The power of building and maintaining relationships.
Spreading the gospel and accepting the great commission.
Viewing your business as a mission field.
Laying aside your bias to listen and give better.
Key Takeaways:
When sharing the gospel, you need to understand your audience - it isn’t about you.
God is raising up people in every country. By working together, the Kindom will grow that much faster and stronger.
Prayer is as much listening as it is speaking. Start your giving by listening to Him with intention.
You don’t have to be passionate about one cause or another before you start giving. Let God lead, and your heart will follow where He leads.
"When you give to something, your passion will follow." — Paul Schultheis

What steps can you take to better integrate all areas of your life?
In this episode, Jeff and Mordechai discuss:
How his Jewish grandparents came to follow Yeshua and how that affected his life.
Making the sacrifices to follow where God is calling you.
Integrating theology, life, and business.
Unique challenges and truths of redemptive business in Israel.
Being a successful business leader while avoiding the fate of the Rich Young Ruler.
Key Takeaways:
Trust in the Lord - He will take care of you, even if not the way that you expect.
Business can be an effective tool to change the kingdom if you allow it to be and allow God to lead.
Every human, all the time, is worshipping. The question is, who (or what) are you worshipping and what are you looking to receive on the other side?
See your business as your calling. They can be the same, and are not separated.
The love of money is the great snare of the human heart. As such, the successful believer can be one of the most dangerous places to be if you do not plant the foundations with God and not with your own success.
"This idea that we have this bifurcated worldview, where we serve God and then we make a living, is completely un-Biblical." — Mordechai Wiseman

Do you want to increase your investment in people and in eternity?
In this episode, Jeff, Coralyn, and John discuss:
Allowing God to guide your niche and your business.
Trusting God through the ups and downs of business as you live by His principles.
Why you should take mission trips as a business.
Doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do.
Key Takeaways:
The struggle can happen at any time, not only during startup.
If you treat people well, using Biblical principles, even in a capitalistic society, it is good for your business. Be honest, treat people well, and trust in God.
Give generously and live with compassion without an agenda behind it.
Look for ways to have a ripple effect. Start small with 1 person, 1%, or 1 cause and grow as you can. Don’t be afraid to take a righteous risk with faith and just start.
"Compassion and generosity have to become a part of your character. It can’t just be a tool in your toolbox." — John Romnes
About Coralyn Musser:
Coralyn Musser is the Director of Outreach & Engagement at MEI Total Elevator Solutions, where she leads company-wide culture, philanthropy, and employee engagement efforts.
In this role, she designs and executes volunteer programs, community partnerships, and employee education initiatives that embed compassion and generosity into the day-to-day rhythm of the business.
Through our signature Learn. Give. Do. framework, Coralyn helps translate values into action—educating teams around meaningful causes, empowering generosity, and activating hands-on service. Her leadership at MEI has driven measurable growth in employee participation, nonprofit impact, and cultural alignment across the organization.
She also holds an MBA, sits on the board of MY Place (an area youth organization), is a TEDx Speaker, and is a podcast host.
About John Romnes:
In 1969, John W. Romnes stood to his feet at a Billy Graham Crusade to give his life to the Lord. The founder of Minnesota Elevator, Inc. (MEI), John, began the venture hoping to raise his family “in the country” and earn a living in the trade he had learned. From those small beginnings, MEI grew to some 300 employees who engineer, manufacture, install, and service passenger and freight elevators. Additionally, the company is involved in many charitable outreach efforts, employing a full-time “Director of Outreach and Engagement.” Blessed with God’s favor, MEI is thriving today with a strong leadership team that includes John’s sons, Ron and Steve, who also work for the company. John and his wife, Roxie, continue to enjoy an extensive international travel itinerary, mostly related to Christian mission work. They have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Where in your life or business do you need to make a rockstep to what matters most?
In this episode, Jeff and Andy discuss:
Navigating a family business through a Chapter 29 bankruptcy.
Taking care of the RockSteps in your life.
Listening effectively and generously in all areas of life.
Narrowing in on what is important to you.
Key Takeaways:
You have to have governance in a family business that can resolve strategic conflicts. You cannot live without consequences.
It is possible to excel in things that are boring. You don’t need to be scandalous or outrageous with your ideas. Boredom is part of everyday life.
Get sleep, eat healthy, exercise, take care of yourself, and be gritty. Business is hard, but you need to take care of yourself in order to push through the hard times and do what is needed to persist.
You will make mistakes; it’s what you learn from them that defines your path.
"I believe that our 26 rules, we call them RockSteps, if we are really emotional and consistent, we will have a high-performance team." — Andy Weiner

What challenges in the world move you to prayer and reflection?
In this episode, Jeff and Andy discuss:
Preparing for your calling in the world, not just within a Christian community
The surprising relationship between authority and vulnerability
Taking focused risks on work that can bear lasting fruit
How money can feel both insignificant and deeply influential
Key Takeaways:
You don’t have to stay in the same role forever, but growth requires continuing to move forward.
It’s important for young people to see their parents pursuing meaningful work that requires trust in God.
God rarely wastes experiences. The first part of your story often shapes what comes next, even if the path isn’t linear.
Generosity can become a powerful turning point because it releases control in a way few other uses of money do.
"You are called at every stage of your life to be taking on something that places you in a radical sense of dependence on God and, ideally, on some other people whom you have come to believe God has given you to go on this adventure with." — Andy Crouch

Are you in the seat that God is calling you to?
In this episode, Jeff and Kyle discuss:
Living with curiosity and open communication.
Generosity in influence.
Learning and living in both the 1st and 2nd generation seats of organizations.
Tapping into your emotional side.
Key Takeaways:
The family story is made up of 4 Ts, not 3: time, talent, treasure, and testimony.
Write for your family alone. What do you want them to know and to carry forward?
We must invest in the rising generation. Consider walking through the succession and transfer of influence sooner than you think. This can help to break the negative cycles that we may not even see.
The focus of the family needs to come through the spirit. Get out of your head, and feel what God wants you to know and to do.
"I'm talking about doing something that taps into this softer, emotional feeling side that at first feels very uncomfortable, but I believe the Holy Spirit will speak through it in ways that are unimaginable and are uniquely gifted to unleash something that is God-breathed." — Kyle Circle

What legacy are you leaving for your children? In this episode, Jeff and Blake discuss: Seeing God in our fathers.Words from our father and from our Father.Healing through service to others.Stages of writing a Legacy Letter. Key Takeaways: God is good on your best days and on your hardest days.Parental approval can be either an accelerant or a headwind to success, depending on where your parents fall on the spectrum.Assume how you love your children and how they are receiving that love are not always on the same page. The Legacy Letter is an opportunity to bridge that gap.Remove all expectations of how your children will respond to your letter. There will be a variety of reactions, and they may not always show you how they feel. "What do you care more about? Do you care more about being right, or do you care more about having a strong family and a strong relationship? How can you start your generosity journey now with the budget you currently have?In this episode, Jeff, Jeff, and Ivan discuss: Learning from all work experiences.Lessons from living upside down.Navigating partnerships.Starting your generosity path early - and bringing your family into your giving at all levels. Key Takeaways: There is no need to go into debt to fund your lifestyle. When working with others, the sum of the whole is greater than the individual parts. But recognize there will be challenges and debates, and see the blessings in each other’s strengths.Give before you’re ready. Start small and increase incrementally, even if only 1% annually.Sharpen your iron around those who are also doing great things around you. Build a community of strong individuals around you to raise and strengthen one another. "I would be an evangelist for peer groups, whether they are faith-based or not. Of course, faith-based is a plus, but getting around some like-minded individuals that are going through the same thing I am, and having a group that I can talk to and be vulnerable with, and then mirroring that with some sort of coaching or mentorship or advising. Those two aspects have been rocket fuel for my trajectory." — Ivan Barratt Episode References: Firefly IN: https://fireflyin.org/ About Ivan Barratt: Ivan Barratt is a 25-year real estate veteran and the founder and CEO of The BAM Companies.
