Jokes, Jabs, & Sarcasm

Jokes, Jabs, & Sarcasm

Jokes, jabs, and sarcasm can be detrimental to your marriage and family. Learn to talk through the things that are simmering beneath the surface so they don't shoot out in little bursts disguised as jokes, jabs, or sarcasm. Pay attention to the things you say to your loved ones. Also pay attention to their body language in response to your words and attitude.
Vauna and Roland discuss how to stop taking things personally. Every behavior is designed to meet a need. It's not likely that it has to do with you, even though it may feel like it. Learn to ask, "When you do that, what does it mean?" Clarity matters. A healthy marriage involves empathy, compassion, communication, the willingness to work through things. You can be proud of who you are. If someone has a lack of respect, that's about them. It's not about you.  Start asking yourself, "What could be going in in their life that I don't know about?" and "what else could this mean?"
