As a creative, I know how important it is to stay inspired, but sometimes, even the best of us get hit with creative burnout. It's not something that you can just shake off or ignore—it's real.  So how do you keep your creative light burning? In this episode, I will walk you through my personal journey of overcoming burnout, what I have learned from this experience and how we can really take care of ourselves while following our dreams and pursuing our passion. Key highlights of this episode My personal experience of burnout and how I recovered from it Four phases of burnout that I learned from my personal journey Lessons I learned in nurturing my relationship with creativity I also share the steps I take to manage my creative career in more sustainable ways And how building trust and confidence in giving yourself space can create new possibilities and breakthroughs in your creative career. Key Takeaways:When we look for quick-fixes but not really address the root cause, we will only end up repeating the cycle of burnout. Listen to your body and watch out for those signs that you're probably expressing a burnout and immediately give yourself some grace to bounce back from that to avoid having massive burnout. Trigger warning: if you're experiencing burnout, listening to content about burnout can be triggering. Please take care of yourself and seek the support of mental health professionals if needed. Follow me on Instagram @bettyxcoach for more resources for creativesMy 1:1 coaching program is OPEN! Seeking perfection is something that a lot of creatives do and struggle with. But chasing perfectionism often causes us to be afraid of trying and failing, keeping us in our comfort zones. In this episode, I chat with Vanessa Lee, a former client of mine, about her experience of going through my 1:1 coaching program and how it helped her overcome perfectionism, develop a healthy relationship with her self-critic, and work with her money mindset. Key highlights of this episode Vanessa shares challenges she faced last year as she navigated a job transitionHow she overcame perfectionism and developed a healthy relationship with her self-critic How she deal with scarcity mindset and improved her relationship with money Changes in Vanessa’s creative career and life after coachingVanessa talks about her insights on creative rest Key Takeaways: Self-critic is a part of us, but it doesn’t speak any truth to our ability as creatives. We can learn to build a distance to our self-critic’s voice. Creativity is like a muscle. It's not something we can overwork and use all the time, but it is something we can build. It's something that also needs rest. Naturally curious about all things visual, design, and the process of creating anything and everything, Vanessa always knew she would walk the path that encompassed all that. Recently making the transition from graphic design, Vanessa is now taking strides in user interface design in her current role as Designer at Accenture Interactive in Toronto, Canada. Connect with Vanessa via her Instagram.____________________________________________________My 1:1 coaching program for creatives is OPEN! Natural talent is a topic that every creative person likes to talk about, but also secretly fears it. We fear it because there is always a tiny voice in our head that reminds us: you’re no genius. In this episode, I share with you what to do when the thought “what if I’m just mediocre” creeps up, and the steps we can take to actually realize our talent and improve our craft. Key highlights of this episode Is the belief "I'm just mediocre" part of your “operating system”, even when you don’t notice it? I share the short term and long term impact this can have on our creative career and life Realistic steps you can take to cope with the fear of being mediocre and develop a healthy relationship with your inner self-criticHow to start developing a healthy relationship with your inner self-criticI walk you through my unique colour theory metaphor on how to grow your creative career by embracing exactly who you are and dissect what are the three primary colours you need to build awareness of in your creative careerKey Takeaways:We tend to work hard to compensate for the feeling of not being good enough. I will elaborate on why this tactic does not work in the long term. Self-critic is not always there to destroy you. Understanding and acknowledging it will help you be more creative.  Follow me on Instagram @bettyxcoach for more resources for creativesMy 1:1 coaching program is OPEN! In this day and age, a lot of us want to work abroad and develop a career that is not bound to a location. But how do we actually start? What are some obstacles and challenges we can expect, and what mindsets will get us through the ups and downs? On this very first interview episode on the podcast, I talk with Grace Phan-Nguyen. Grace shares her trajectory of starting her career in theater in Canada, moved to Germany during the global pandemic, and then self-started a career on Youtube. Today she manages two well-loved Youtube food channels. My Name is Andong and Made with Lau, and continues to cultivate  a career of learning driven by her curiosity, humility, and self-care. Key highlights:Grace shares her story and key mindsets that motivated her to leave a structure that didn’t serve her anymore, re-started in Germany, and eventually carved out her path on Youtube. For those of you interested in starting a career on Youtube, Grace shares her insights on the possible routes and what to focus on when you’re starting. As both Grace and I are creatives who manage our own schedule and rhythm of working, we exchange how we actively set boundaries, give ourselves permission to rest, and treat rest as a form of resistance. Connect with Grace via Instagram @phantagepoint. Check out her work on Youtube at Made with Lau and My Name is Andong. She also has a cool podcast Our Relationship To, where four friends in three countries come together to talk about their long-distance relationship experiences and their interests. ____________________________________________________________Connect with Betty on @bettyxcoach on Instagram or find me on Linkedin. When we are making a risky move in our career, we tend to get anxious about telling our family out of the fear that they would disprove or judge us. In this episode, I spilled the tea on how I told my mom about moving on from my full-time job recently, and how did I actually take the steps to assess whether that big move was right for me at this stage in my creative career.Key highlights of this episodeMy story on quitting her full-time job to run her business full time & how I told my mom about itHow to take a “big risk” in your career by doing the inner work in order to help you feel safe when taking this riskHow we can move on from seeking approval from our family and make aligned career decisionsKey Takeaways:Telling our family about your career move often feels hard because we want to look for validation from them, so it’s crucial that we validate ourselves firstWhen it comes to risk-taking, it’s not about taking reckless risks or avoiding risks altogether, but it’s about managing a portfolio of decisions, where some of which will feel risky but it will ultimately push you out of your comfort zone and create new possibilitiesFollow me on Instagram @bettyxcoach for more resources for creativesMy 1:1 coaching program is open!
