Host John Lund recap's Louisville hoops 118-77 thrashing of NC State, a historic night from their star freshman, and what head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about it. As Frankie Valli likes to say, Oh what a night. A historic night, a memorable night, a night that fans have been begging for, and a night that some small minority of fans didn't deserve. The Cardinals are 3-0 since I sat behind this microphone and called out the IDIOTS that spent DAYS calling for Pat Kelsey to get fired, because they lost to a top-three team in the country by too many points with their best player still on his way back. But against NC State, that star player in Mikel Brown Jr. had 45 points, 10 threes and nine rebounds just for good measure: tying the school record for points held by Louisville legend Wes Unseld, tying the school record for 3s held by Reyne Smith and breaking the ACC freshman record of 42 set by Cooper Flagg. It was a Clev Lubin-esque Belt To Ass beatdown by all involved, and a hope that some fans will see some positivity in the Cards. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund recaps Louisville hoops 88-74 win over SMU and what head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about it. It was a tough day for the Pat Kelsey detractors, who wanted him run out of town after losing to Duke but had little complaints to make after a complete game from the Cardinals against the Mustangs. Maybe a second-year head coach and the team trying to tread water without some of their best players should be given some grace? What a novel concept. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund recaps Louisville's 31-point loss at Duke on Monday night to fall to 14-6 overall and 4-4 in the ACC, and what head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about the "butt whooping." It was much of the same for the Cardinals against ranked opponents, as the Blue Devils took advantage of UofL's weaknesses and once again left fans with more questions than answers. What can Louisville actually fix? Well, the season is far from over despite what some fans are saying on Twitter, but it's time to re-evaluate some expectations for the final two months of the season. Host John Lund recaps Louisville's 79-70 loss to visiting Virginia and what head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about it. The loss drops the Cardinals to 12-5 overall and 2-3 in the ACC, which is more losses than last season's conference play, and now 3-4 without star point guard Mikel Brown. Pat Kelsey said they weren't the more desperate team, and (finally) noted that they just aren't very good right now. He also explained the London Johnson situation and apologized for jumping the gun on the whole thing. Just one more off the court thing that the Louisville fan base has had to deal with this season. Host John Lund recaps Duke flipping the script in the second half to come back and beat Louisville, 84-73, and what head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about it. It was a late Christmas for the Cardinals, who came out firing from 3 in the first half and rode the hot hand of Aly Khalifa to build a nine-point lead at halftime. But Duke's halftime adjustments overwhelmed Louisville's, and a new look on defense and more aggressive game plan on offense allowed the Blue Devils to outscore UofL by 20 in the second half.
It was another postgame of complaints about Pat Kelsey's second half adjustments and being able to win big games, but are the criticisms actually valid considering the circumstances? It might be a little too early to sound the panic alarm. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Host John Lund puts a cap on the 2025 Louisville football season with a recap of the Bush's Boca Raton Bowl of Beans Bowl win over Toledo and what Jeff Brohm had to say about it, along with some transfer portal and coaching news. It was another hair-pulling and frustrating slog of a game in the Cardinals 27-22 win over the Rockets, but why should this night be different than any other night! Explosive runs carrying the offense late, the defense carrying the offense early, and another hold your breath and hope it all works out.
In coaching news, Jeff Brohm (seemingly) is sticking around as head coach, but defensive coordinator Ron English is out for 2026. In transfer portal news, Deuce Adams highlights the list of names already on the way out, with plenty more assuredly coming and going when things officially open up in the next couple days. And, most importantly, ranking the Top Five Christmas movies of all-time. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund previews the Bush’s Boca Raton Bowl of Beans Bowl between the Louisville Cardinals and Toledo Rockets and what Jeff Brohm had to say about it. The Rockets also enter the game with an 8-4 record overall and are looking for their staunch defense to keep the Cardinals in line. However, Louisville is expected to play most of its staters, with the hopes of securing Jeff Brohm's ninth victory for a third consecutive season. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund recaps Louisville's 83-62 loss at No. 20 Tennessee on Tuesday night and reacts to what head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about it. Freshman star Mikel Brown Jr. was ruled out right before the game and was greatly missed by the Cardinals offense, which was held to a season low in points. Defensively in the first half, there was no answer for Tennessee in the paint, and it only got worse in the second half when the outside shots started to fall as well. The red flags from the Arkansas loss remained, and there's work to be done heading into ACC conference play for the 9-2 Cards. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund recaps Louisville's 99-73 beatdown over Memphis on Saturday afternoon and reacts to what head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about the win and crowd attendance. Also, a preview for Tuesday night's game at No. 20 Tennessee. It was another great team win for the Cardinals and a 3-point barrage to boot against the Tigers, with 18 made and six players knocking down at least two apiece. Rebounding continues to be a problem however, an emphasis for improvement when the Cards play the Vols on Tuesday night. And, Pat Kelsey called out the Louisville faithful to pack the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday, but are the prices everywhere just too damn high? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund chats with Mike Rutherford, he's the manager and founder of Card Chronicle for SB Nation, host of the Mike Rutherford Show for Big X Sports Radio in Louisville (Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 5:30ET), host of the CC Podcast with Dan Sinnard, and author of "100 Things Louisville Fans Should Know Before They Die". Conversation revolves around how he got into sports media and how he's evolved along with it, if he contributed to the demise of the football season by having the nerve to attend two home games, if there's an answer to what happened to the team this year, the optimism surrounding the basketball team after an 8-1 start, and more importantly, what word he got wrong to knock him out of the final round in the 1997 city spelling bee. He's on Twitter @CardChronicle.
Also on the show, Jeff Brohm's comments on Louisville playing Toledo in the Bush's Boca Raton Bowl of Beans Bowl and more on the Rockets, along with some additional host commentary on the College Football Playoff process and the ripple effects from the final bracket. Why to never trust the committee or the process, why Notre Dame got screwed, but also why teams opting out of bowl games is BS. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund recaps Louisville basketball's 87-78 win over No. 22 Indiana on Saturday and what Pat Kelsey had to say about it afterward. It was quite the homecoming for Ryan Conwell, who finished with a game-high 21 points to lead a great night for the entire offense. It was a solid response after losing to Arkansas and showed a balanced effort from Cardinals role players across the board. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund talks about Jeff Brohm's decision to turn down any other offers and come back for the 2026 football season, and Arkansas handing men's hoops their first loss, along withwhat head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about it.
It had been an uneasy time for football fans this week, with Coach Brohm's name on the hot stove to possibly take the open Penn State job, but he put those rumors to bed on Wednesday after addressing the media about how the team fared in signing day.
Also, a tough game for the Cardinals at Arkansas as part of the ACC/SEC challenge, just one of those games where you could tell they didn't have it and weren't able claw back in the end. Louisville lost the rebounding battle, points off turnovers and the bench, and to make matters worse, once again lost at the hands of John Calipari. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund recaps Louisville's 41-0 win over rival Kentucky in an absolute beatdown to end the season on a high note. With a shell of its offense and plenty of guys playing hurt, the Cardinals put together their best game of the year for the largest defeat in the history of the Governor's Cup, so bad that Kentucky fired Mark Stoops just days later. It was a great way for Miller Moss and the defense to end their seasons, and yet another bright spot for Louisville's running game. While it doesn't make up for all the losses in November, it sure felt good for Cardinal Nation to sweep the basketball and football games for the first time since 2012-13 and Jeff Brohm's third consecutive season with at least eight wins. Host John Lund recaps Louisville's 87-46 home win over Eastern Michigan on Monday night and what head coach Pat Kelsey had to say about it. It took a little time for the Louisville offense to get doing but the defense came ready to play from the tip, limiting the Eagles to just four points in the first 11 minutes and 17 in the first half. The bench provided spark after spark, dropping 37 points and giving Coach Kelce a better idea of whom can play where and when. Adrian Wooley and Khani Rooths chipped in 9 and 7 points respectively and added 12 total boards, while Aly Khalifa put on an offensive and defensive show for a 6-0 start for the first time since 2019. Host John Lund recaps Louisville's 38-6 loss at SMU in Week 13 and what head coach Jeff Brohm had to say about it. It was the worst loss in the Jeff Brohm era and worst for the Cardinals in this decade. A freshman quarterback making his first start with not much trust, countless injuries, and a defense that had all but given up by the end of the game... It was a recipe for disaster against the Mustangs, and leaves more questions than answer for the season finale against rival Kentucky. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Host John Lund recaps Louisville's second half comeback to beat Cincinnati, 74-64, on Friday night to remain unbeaten. After the Bearcats clamped down on the Cardinals offense in the first half to head into halftime with a four-point lead, UofL battled back. Fueled by Ryan Conwell's 17 second half points en route to his best game with Louisville and a game-high 25 points, along with a five-point sequence from freshman Mikel Brown Jr. to seal the win, the Cards improved to 5-0 and showed they can win in different ways. Host John Lund previews Louisville's Week 13 game at SMU on Saturday afternoon and recaps the Cardinals coming back in the second half to beat Cincinnati on the hardwood Friday night, 74-64. In football, it'll be a new look offense, with quarterback Miller Moss expected to miss the game and freshman Deuce Adams getting his first career start in his place, also without Louisville's two best running backs behind him. In hoops, Louisville responded to Cincinnati's tough first half defense with senior Ryan Conwell and freshman Mikel Brown Jr. taking over in the second half to lead the Cardinals on the comeback to remain unbeaten. Host John Lund chats with "Producer Keith" Arutoff, co-host of From The Pink Seats Podcast as part of The State of Louisville. He's a former offensive lineman at Georgetown College who threw his cleats over the electrical wire after a couple seasons to focus his time as a hammer thrower for the track and field team, where he holds several school and meet records.
We'll talk about he landed on the podcast, what goes into their film breakdowns, if there's an answer to what happened to Louisville football these past couple weeks, what needs to change to beat SMU and Kentucky and his best memories from his hammer throw days in college. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Host John Lund chats with Jody Demling, a legend covering Louisville sports, about what's happened to the football team and what to expect from men's hoops this season. Jody is the sideline reporter for the University of Louisville Radio Network, the publisher for Cardinal Authority with 247 Sports, host for the Cards Cast podcast, play-by-play for ACC Network and was also a longtime writer for the Louisville Courier-Journal. And he's a Louisville grad, class of 1995. He's on Twitter @jdemling.
We'll talk about what Pat Kelce and Jeff Brohm have brought to Louisville, what happened to Cardinals football these last couple games, why they haven't been able to play their best game, how to beat SMU, how to stay motivated for the last two games and what to expect from men's hoops for this season. Host John Lund recap Louisville's 20-19 loss to Clemson on last Friday night. What went wrong, what went right, what went wrong again, and what head coach Jeff Brohm and QB Miller Moss had to say about it afterward. It was the end of any ACC championship game or the College Football Playoff hopes, and the third of now three losses that still had plenty of chances to win, despite more frustrating play from the offense and the worst game of the season from special teams. The same mistakes that plagued the team throughout the season came at the game's most important moments, critical mistakes as Jeff Brohm put it about 200 times after the game. Guess we're on to basketball season! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
