In this episode, I share something that hit me hard during a half marathon the other day. Therapy has been opening up parts of my mind that I either suppressed or simply never explored properly. And while I was running, I realised something simple but powerful: most of our emotional pain lives in two places — the past and the future. The past can haunt us. Regrets, grief, mistakes, things we never dealt with properly. We either suppress it or we finally face it and learn from it. The future can scare us. What if it does not work out? What if I fail? What if something goes wrong? We catastrophise outcomes that have not even happened yet. And in between those two… is the present. The only place where life is actually happening. I talk openly about how much of my life I have spent either worrying about what might happen next or avoiding what has already happened. And how little time I truly spent just being here. Breathing. Appreciating. Enjoying the moment I am actually in. We chase the next milestone. The next goal. The next level. The next version of ourselves. And in doing that, we often miss the life that is already in front of us. In this episode, I share: – Why suppressing the past quietly shapes your future – How catastrophising tomorrow robs you of today – The simple weekly practice I am introducing to train myself to slow down – Why reaching your potential is not always about money or status, but about presence If you feel like life is moving too fast… If Mondays keep arriving before you have caught your breath… If you are constantly chasing the next thing… This one is for you. If you are ready to stop drifting between past regret and future anxiety, and start building structure around your present, you can join the next 5 Day Mission Reset here: https://consulting.boardmanjames.com/5daymissionresetdetails As always, keep showing up.
This episode is raw. I am two months into therapy and questioning parts of my identity I have carried for years. Shredding one version of myself. Trying to consciously build the next. You can be successful. You can have the family. You can be disciplined and driven. Yet still feel slightly hollow. Slightly misaligned. Slightly unsure of who you actually are becoming. This is about that space. Inside this episode: • Why identity drift happens, especially to high performing men • The first anchor: values – what truly matters to you and whether you are actually living it • The second anchor: vision – if your life looks exactly the same in five years, how would that feel • The third anchor: voice – the narrative you repeat to yourself and how it shapes the man you become • Why success without alignment can still feel empty • How to start consciously rebuilding the next version of you There is no hype in this one. No performance. Just truth. If you have felt slightly off track lately… If you are achieving but not fulfilled… If you know there is another level of you waiting to be built… This will help you put structure to that feeling. As men, fathers, and career driven leaders, we carry a lot. Responsibility. Pressure. Worry. Expectations. And most of it never switches off. In this episode, I talk honestly about the mental load men live with every day. The constant background noise of being a father, a partner, a provider, a leader, and trying to hold it all together without ever really stopping. This is a real world conversation about overthinking, nervous system overload, and why trying to manage everything at once eventually burns us out. We explore: Why men feel permanently "switched on" How overthinking exhausts the mind like overtraining the body The difference between pain and unnecessary suffering Why regulation matters more than motivation Simple daily practices that calm the nervous system How journaling and brain dumping reduce mental pressure Why most men stop doing the very things that keep them sane This episode is not about fixing everything. It is about learning how to regulate yourself so life does not run away with you. Because pain will always exist. Suffering is what happens when we do nothing about it. If your head feels full, your thoughts feel heavy, or you feel like you are carrying too much alone, this one is for you. Share it with someone who needs it. And I will see you on the next one. 5 Day Reset > https://consulting.boardmanjames.com/5daymissionreset
January has gone quicker than most people expected. And before rushing headfirst into the rest of the year, there is a question worth asking. What did you actually get for your time? In this episode, I walk through a simple but powerful January audit. Not to judge yourself. Not to beat yourself up. But to honestly assess where your time went, what it gave you back, and where you might be leaking energy without realising it. This conversation is about standards. About return on investment. And about learning how to demand more from your time instead of letting it drift. In this episode, we explore: Why most men never audit their time properly How to think about time like an investment, not a resource The difference between survival mode and intentional living Why January is about wiping away rust, not transformation How February becomes the real momentum month A simple five pillar audit covering health, personal development, relationships, business, and fun How to score yourself honestly without perfection or ego This episode is not about doing more. It is about doing better with what you already have. If you want to feel calmer, more intentional, and more aligned as the year unfolds, start by understanding how you are actually spending your days. Take the audit. Be honest. And make February count. If this helped, share it with someone who feels busy but unfulfilled. Subscribe, leave a rating, and I will see you on the next one.
This episode started with a simple question and ended in tears. If you could have the last ten years of your life back, knowing what you know now, or take one million pounds today, which would you choose? What followed was an honest reflection on identity, grief, ambition, family, and the quiet cost of chasing the wrong things for too long. This is not a motivational episode. It is a personal reckoning with the man I was, the man I became, and the man I am choosing to be next. In this episode, I share the decisions I would make differently if I could start again, and the lessons I am carrying forward into the next decade of my life. In this episode, we explore: Why more money does not always mean more safety or peace The house I left behind and what it represented emotionally Why starting therapy earlier would have changed everything How ambition can slowly strip your identity without you noticing The cost of prioritising business over presence The moments with children that matter more than achievements Why comparison quietly poisons contentment What I hope the version of me in ten years feels proud of This is an episode about honesty. About grief that has been buried too long. About choosing meaning over noise. And about deciding how you want the next ten years to feel. If this lands, take the question with you. Be honest with yourself. And do not wait another decade to listen. Share this with someone who needs to slow down and pay attention.
This episode is a raw training session pulled directly from inside Mission 365. No theory. No motivation talk. Just the truth about why most men start strong, lose momentum, and quietly slip back into old patterns right before things begin to change. We break down the real reasons men quit, stall, or negotiate their standards, even when they know better. This is about identity, self leadership, and the unseen decisions that separate the few who follow through from the many who circle back to the start. If you have ever told yourself you will start again next week, next month, or next year, this episode will hit home. In this episode, we cover: The cycle of thriving and surviving that keeps men stuck in repetition Why motivation fails and structure is the only thing that lasts The moment most men quit and why it happens right before progress How negotiating your standards slowly destroys your identity Why consistency matters more than intensity The difference between wanting change and needing it How accountability exposes the truth about who you are becoming Why progress feels uncomfortable when it is actually working This is not a polished podcast episode. It is a real conversation with real men doing real work. If you are serious about building discipline, clarity, and control in your life, this is the work you cannot avoid. 👇 Action Takers If this resonates, join our Mission Hub group and get access to the structure, accountability, and conversations that keep men moving forward instead of slipping back. This episode is a raw, honest, and deeply human conversation between a father and his 18 year old son. There is no script. No performance. Just two men sitting down to talk about growing up, identity, pressure, mental health, and what it actually feels like to be a young man today. We talk openly about comparison, confidence, social media pressure, fear of being left behind, relationships, ADHD, self belief, and the quiet internal battles most young men never say out loud. We also reflect on fatherhood, mistakes, growth, and what it really means to support your children without controlling their path. This is not a polished motivational episode. It is real. Messy. Honest. And necessary. In this conversation, we explore: What it feels like to be 18 in a world obsessed with comparison and speed The pressure young men feel to have life figured out too early Identity, confidence, and learning to like who you are ADHD, emotional regulation, and feeling misunderstood growing up Relationships, heartbreak, and learning from pain rather than avoiding it Why talking honestly matters more than pretending you are fine Fatherhood, regret, forgiveness, and generational growth Why you do not need all the answers to be moving forward If you are a young man trying to find your place, or a father wanting to understand your son better, this episode will resonate deeply. And if you are older and recognise parts of yourself in this conversation, it may help you understand where the next generation are really at. In this episode, I share a real shift in my personal development and identity as a man. For years, my growth was driven by extreme physical challenges. Long miles. Hard races. Constant pressure. Always pushing. Always proving. But through therapy, reflection, and honest self assessment, I realised something important. I do not want more chaos. I want a simple, calm, and peaceful life. This episode is about recognising when your drive is no longer serving you, and having the maturity to evolve instead of forcing more. Inside this conversation, I cover: Why I stepped back from the 100 mile goal and chose a more grounded challenge. The role ego and old masculine conditioning play in overreaching. How physical punishment can sometimes be a way of avoiding inner work. The shift from constant intensity to calm, deliberate living. Why yoga, meditation, breathing, and mobility are now priorities for me. The cost of overwhelm and trying to do everything at once. What contentment, composure, and inner strength actually look like. How recognising your own patterns is part of real leadership. This is not about quitting. It is about evolving. If you are a driven man who feels constantly busy, overstretched, or caught in the cycle of more, this episode will help you pause, reassess, and choose a better way forward. This episode is a direct conversation about presence. Not being in the house. Not being in the room. Actually being present. I share honest reflections on fatherhood, the moments I got wrong, the moments that still hurt to think about, and what therapy has taught me about attention, listening, and emotional availability. This is not about guilt. It is about awareness. Because the moments you postpone today quietly become the regrets you carry tomorrow. In this episode, we talk about: Why saying "just a minute" slowly turns into years. The difference between being home and being present. How distraction, work pressure, and mental noise pull you away from the people who matter most. What your children are really asking for when they ask for your time. Why presence is listening, eye contact, and emotional availability. The long term impact of fatherhood on identity, confidence, and self belief. The moment you realise your kids will not always ask you to play. If you are building a business, chasing success, or carrying responsibility, this episode is a reminder of what actually lasts. Careers come and go. Relationships do not. Listen carefully. One day, they stop asking. If this resonates, share it with another father who needs to hear it. And if you have not already, take a moment to rate the podcast. It genuinely helps more men find these conversations.
In this episode, I share a real update on my therapy journey and why I almost did not record this one. I talk about the emotional pain that has come up over Christmas, the unexpected moments where it hits me out of nowhere, and what it is revealing about my past, my beliefs, and the way I have been wired for years. I open up about grief, security, self worth, and the hidden patterns that can sit underneath high performance without you even realising. More than anything, I share what therapy is giving me. A deeper understanding of men, a deeper capacity to coach, a stronger connection to the people around me, and a realisation that what I want most is not more noise or more chasing. It is a simple, peaceful life that I protect at all costs. If you have been carrying pressure, suppressing emotion, wearing a mask, or quietly battling catastrophic thinking, this episode will land. You are not weak. You are human. And you can change the way you live, the way you think, and the way you lead yourself. In this episode, I sit down with Jon my Ops manager for a raw and honest conversation about men's behaviour, patterns, and the hidden reasons so many capable men stay stuck for years. John shares his journey from being overweight, signed off work, numbing life with bad habits, and feeling completely lost, to rebuilding his health, identity, and family life through structure, consistency, and self leadership. Together, we break down the real issues we see again and again in men from all walks of life. This is not theory. It is lived experience from both sides of the journey. We cover the five core patterns that quietly destroy momentum in men's lives: • Chronic procrastination and waiting for the perfect moment that never comes • Compulsive time wasting through scrolling, comparison, and constant distraction • Rising tension at home leading to arguments, distance, and broken trust • Escaping stress through dopamine habits like alcohol, junk food, porn, and numbing behaviours • Breaking promises to family and friends and slowly losing respect, trust, and connection We also talk about why men believe they are different, why unrealistic expectations cause most men to quit early, and why real transformation is built through patience, structure, and one percent daily improvements over time. John explains what actually changed his life, why motivation always fades, and what keeps men consistent when discipline is required. If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or quietly frustrated with the man you know you could be, this conversation will hit home. More importantly, it will show you that you are not broken, you are not alone, and change is possible when you stop drifting and start leading yourself. Listen carefully. This one matters.
This episode is a call to leadership on one of the most chaotic days of the year. After two weeks away from routine, pressure hits fast. Problems stack up. Emotions rise. Most men react the same way they always have. This training is about doing something different. I break down four core principles to help you reclaim control, regain clarity, and operate at the level you know you are capable of. This is not about motivation. It is about identity, discipline, and leading yourself when things get noisy. In this episode, I cover: • Why reacting emotionally keeps you stuck in chaos and how to pause and respond with control • How to get clear on your real priorities so anxiety does not dictate your actions • Why consistency is built through micro wins rather than big promises • How small daily actions compound into massive progress over the next thirty, sixty, and ninety days • Why training is non negotiable if you want to be the asset of your own life • How physical discipline stabilises your mindset and emotional state under pressure This episode is designed to help you own the day, set the standard for the week, and rebuild momentum immediately. The men who win this week do not wait for conditions to improve. They lead themselves first. Join our 5 Day Mission Reset - 12th Jan CLICK HERE to register This episode focuses on the strange in between period after Christmas and before the New Year truly begins. It is the week where most men drift, stay reactive and wait for motivation to return. I break down how to use this time intentionally so you build momentum rather than lose it. Using the five pillars as a guide, I share how to reset your health, clarify who you want to become, reconnect with relationships, redefine what fun actually means, and prepare your work or business so you start the year grounded and ready rather than overwhelmed. 5 key questions If you actually stopped and asked yourself these five key questions: Who do I need to become? What do I need to leave behind? Who do I want to spend more time with? What do I want to do more of? And how am I going to achieve all of this? In this episode, I cover: • Why momentum matters more than motivation during the post Christmas period • How to restart your health routines gently but intentionally • Five questions that help you define the man you need to become before setting goals • How to use this week to strengthen relationships instead of neglecting them • What fun actually looks like at this stage of life and how to plan for it • How to prepare your work or business so you hit January with clarity and confidence • Why preparation is the real standard setter for the year ahead This episode is a reminder that you do not need to wait until January to get your edge back. How you use this week sets the tone for everything that follows. Do not waste it. Prepare properly. Set the standard.
This episode continues the preparation for 2026 by focusing on the missing piece most men never slow down enough to define. Their values. We explore why vision without values leads to frustration, misalignment and burnout, and why values are the operating rules that quietly shape every decision you make. I share how my own values have evolved over time, why building a business around your life rather than your life around your business changed everything for me, and what it really means to build success from home first. This is a grounded conversation about identity, boundaries and the architecture of a life that supports fulfillment rather than consuming it. In this episode, I cover: • Why many men cannot clearly articulate their values and how this creates confusion and resentment • How values evolve with identity and why they must be revisited regularly • The difference between living intentionally and feeling imprisoned by work • How building a business around your life creates time, freedom and emotional stability • Why success at home must come before success anywhere else • How values help you make better decisions without guilt or second guessing • Why misalignment between values and behaviour creates anger, distraction and drift • How clear values lead to sharper vision, better planning and calmer leadership going into 2026 This episode is not about adding more pressure or complexity to your life. It is about stripping things back and deciding what truly matters. When your values are clear, decisions become easier, boundaries become stronger and your life starts to feel aligned again. Listen closely, Reflect honestly. And start building your future from the inside out.
This episode is the starting point for preparing for 2026 in the right way. Not with pressure, targets or false certainty, but with clarity. I share why clarity is the foundation for peace of mind, why a lack of it creates anxiety and restlessness, and why many high performing men struggle to feel settled even when life looks successful on the outside. I also speak openly about starting therapy, what that process has unlocked for me already, and why rewiring belief systems is not weakness but leadership. This conversation is about slowing down enough to ask better questions, stepping out of reactive mode, and deciding who you actually want to become rather than just staying busy. In this episode, I cover: • Why clarity is reassurance and why without it many men struggle to feel calm or present • How high achieving men get trapped in constant busyness and lose sight of the bigger picture • Why identity matters more than goals when you are thinking about the future • How to begin shaping a vision for your life based on how you want to live, not just what you want to achieve • Why taking time away from noise, phones and pressure creates better decisions • The importance of regularly checking back in with yourself to stay aligned over time • How vision leads into values and eventually into a mission that can evolve as you do This episode is not about locking yourself into a rigid plan for the year ahead. It is about creating direction, perspective and space so that the next chapter of your life is intentional rather than accidental. This episode is about protecting what actually matters. It is about ensuring that Christmas does not quietly become another period of distraction, half work and emotional absence. Too many men drift through the festive period with one eye on their phone, one eye on work and neither fully present with their family. This training is designed to stop that. I walk you through a simple but powerful system to help you switch off properly, create peace of mind around work and be fully present at home. It is not complicated. It is not fancy. It works because it is intentional and it respects the value of your time, energy and attention. In this episode, I break down a five part blueprint that allows you to enjoy Christmas without guilt, stress or the constant pull back into work. In this episode, I cover: • Why building success from home must remain the non negotiable standard, especially over Christmas • How to identify your true professional and personal priorities so you can switch off with confidence • Why clarity equals peace of mind and how to remove the mental noise that drags you back into work • The three Christmas deadlines every man needs to set, including when to switch off, when to dip in and when to return • How to plan January and Quarter One before Christmas so you return calm, focused and in control • Why completing your audit early frees you to enjoy the festive period without carrying mental weight • How to define the outcomes you want for Christmas and set clear rules around phone use, work, training and boundaries • What to avoid over Christmas and how writing down your worst case scenario helps you prevent it This is about leading yourself properly during a period where most men slowly disconnect from their family and themselves. With a simple plan in place, you can enjoy Christmas fully and return to work with clarity, momentum and strength. If you want to live and operate at a higher standard, this is the work. 👇 Join the Mission Hub group A free community for men who want structure, clarity and success built from home. In this episode I open up about something I have avoided for years. I share the real story behind why I decided to go to therapy, what finally pushed me through the door and why the first session hit me harder than I expected. For a long time I convinced myself that I could handle everything alone. I believed that because I coached men, mentored men and helped men navigate their own chaos, I should be able to handle mine. But life does not work that way. Pressure builds. Old beliefs surface. Unresolved pain follows you into adulthood until you finally stop running and face it. This conversation is about honesty, self leadership and the courage it takes to deal with the emotional weight you have carried for years. It is about recognising when strength is actually silence and when true strength is choosing to get help. I also share what is coming next for the podcast, including a powerful interview with my son where he talks openly about mental health, identity and growing up in a world full of pressure. In this episode, I cover: • Why I resisted therapy for so long and the beliefs that kept me stuck • What finally made me walk into the room and ask for help • The biggest revelation from the first session and how it reshaped my understanding of myself • Why men avoid emotional work and how it shows up as anxiety, overthinking and burnout • How therapy fits into self leadership and why it strengthens your mission rather than weakens it • What to expect in the upcoming interviews and why these conversations matter for every man on a mission If you are carrying more than you admit, if you have moments where you just want to know everything will be okay, or if you feel like you have no space to talk, this episode will speak directly to you. It is time to lead yourself with honesty, not avoidance. It is time to do the work that actually moves you forward. 👇 Join our free Mission Hub group to start your journey with us A community of men who want to grow, lead and live with purpose. Join Here
This episode dives into one of the most important truths about growth and leadership. You do not need to be the most talented man in the room. You just need to be the one who keeps turning up. I use the journey through Brazilian jiu jitsu, from white belt to black belt, as a living example of what it really takes to build a mission, stay consistent and become the man you are supposed to be. From watching two friends receive their black belts, to earning my own first stripe on my purple belt, this is a reflection on hours on the mat, setbacks, injuries, time away, and still coming back. It is a reminder that progress is rarely pretty. Most of the time it feels like getting choked out, thrown around and humbled. Yet if you keep showing up, one percent better each session, everything changes. In this episode, I cover: • Why every meaningful mission starts at zero and why your next version begins the day you commit. • How the belt journey in jiu jitsu mirrors life, business and personal growth and what it really takes to keep moving through the levels. • Why consistency beats intensity and why simply turning up, especially on the days you do not feel like it, is already a win. • How training, cold tubs, long runs and time on the mat build an internal discipline that refuses to accept your excuses. • Why black belt level results are not about talent but about hours, repetitions and an unshakable belief that it is only a matter of time. • How jiu jitsu has become a place of peace, pressure release and identity building rather than just another achievement to chase. • The questions you must ask yourself as you head into a new year if you want to stop playing average and live with a black belt standard in your mission. This is not really a podcast about belts. It is a podcast about who you become on the way to earning them. If you choose your mission, stay consistent and refuse to quit, the result becomes inevitable. It is just time. Do the work. Become the black belt of your own life. Let us go. 14 Day Mission Insight programme details
