Featured guests, Seth Yager (RT, CT, VI) and Vicki Dillard (RT, CT, VI, RRA, MSRS), come on this episode to speak on everything Radiologist Assistant (RA) related.  Mr. Yager is an Interventional Technologist who is considering the Radiologist Assistant profession but still has many questions.  Mrs. Dillard  is an Associate Professor for an RA program and joins in the conversation to provide a more accurate look into the educational components of the RA education. Together we tackle the topics and explain what the difference between an RRA and RPA are, the education, and how to apply to an approved program.  We share on the different aspects of credentialing and employment as students near graduating and continue  by explaining how we function in our RA roles. This was such a fun topic for us, being able to educate and share about the RA profession is definitely our passion.  Mr. Yager and Mrs. Dillard it was such an honor to sit and have these open conversations about how to help others who are maybe considering advancing their education into the RA.

In this episode Dr. A. MCCurry, Chief Resident, comes on with Sean Wiley (RRA) to walk us through what medical school looks like, matching and how the ESIR works for residents, fellows, and attendings. Dr. MCCurry and Sean elaborate on how they practice together and the value that the staff and physician extenders bring to the table.  Together we all openly discuss some of the harder topics that surround the profession and why those concerns exist.   Dr. MCCurry we are grateful to have been able to sit with you and share your unique perspective on radiology professionals.  You are such an amazing person and we were excited to sit and visit with you. Today we sit down with Sean Wiley, RA, as he leads us through what led him into his passionate career as a Radiology Extender.  You can feel his deep connection with his mother as he shared her love of the radiology field with him.  It's exciting to listen to him discusses how his radiologist have helped mold his career and supported him over the past 20 years. This week we got the opportunity to visit with James Armo, who joined us all the way from Ghana, Africa.  In this episode we look at some of the differences between the educational programs overseas in comparison to the United States and what are the things that connect us as professionals.   We were so grateful to have had this chance to visit with Mr. Armo and we are wishing him the best as he hits the career force and works towards higher education!   Timeline: (00:53) Introduction and meeting James Armo. On this episode we share our mic with Texas Lobbyist, Kyle Frazier, as he shares open advice on what advocacy for radiology-based professionals should look like.  He spends time sharing the importance a lobbyist can play in the legislative role, how to advocate effectively, and the importance of making connections with representatives.  This episode of all about empowering our process and educating consistently on our roles, with/without legislation in process.   Mr. Frazier joins us with an extensive history in advocacy and has spent more than 3 decades in his role as a lobbyist.  As we look at gaining higher recognition as the 3rd largest healthcare professional, we he about about how we have to be willing to advocate at the highest level.  Gain better insight and help us work towards raising that recognition bar!   Timeline: (00:51) Introducing Kyle Frazier. Join us as we get to sit with UT Heath in San Antonio’s program Director, Laura P. Vasquez (Ph.D, MS, RVT, RT, MR, MRSO), as she shares about the program they are offering.  This is the first ver entry into the program at a master’s level that offers students the education, training, and opportunity to become multimodality certifications.   We hit on several topics during this discussion with the order of the content below: The demand for education, market trends, and what multimodality trained technologist have to offer our industry.  Changes in education that has been seen over the years, leading up to programs of higher education and training.  The definition of professionalism, COVID trends, advocacy and the trends that are happening in medical imaging (and all of medicine).  UT Health San Antonio’s masters level program, what it offers to it’s students, what entering the program looks like, and what students can expect to achieve. Investing in our own, heightening awareness of levels of education and the importance of the education medical imaging professionals have in advocacy.  The rigor of programs at UT Health in San Antonio and the start of the first cohort. Face to face vs hybrid programs and investing resources in earlier education with STEM programs to drive more students into the medical imaging pathway. Current workforce issues and looking to fill the void with traveling technologist; missing the opportunity to build and maintain a team. What students are looking at as they go through these programs and working in the industry. Educating on the Radiologist Assistant role and how it plays a key part in where our industry if currently at.  Understanding the importance of advocating for new industry growth and investing in those who are trailblazing the process.  Closing the program up and sharing on the future hope of the students currently enrolled in this masters level program. It was such an honor to have Dr. Vasquez on with us and share on the importance of recognizing professionals and investing in the future of the profession.  Our thoughts and views align as we each look at how we want to see the industry grow and maintain recognition.  

In this episode we got the pleasure to sit down with featured guest, Joel Horsford (BA, RT), to learn about his journey throughout his career in the medical imaging industry.  Currently Mr. Horsford is the VP of Client Operations at Medmo, where they help patients find the nearest imaging center for their radiology appointments.  Mr. Horsford is also the creator and host for new Fireside Chats, connecting community and medical imaging together in the same space. We instantly dive in to talk about the prior Fireside Chats and recent opportunities that we have had to sit on on other states legislative conversations.  The topics here are important as we encourage other imaging professionals to listen in, speak up, and advocate for the profession.   Mr. Horsford takes the time to explain how a layoff in one industry led him into the education and career in another.  He describes what this journey looked like for him and how he views career vs a job in our imaging field.  Mr. Horsford also shares what leadership and building a strong team can do for a department as well as what some of those strategies may look like. So many great things were discussed in this episode but our favorite part is that it was all about positivity and how to gain strenth in yourself, your leadership, and your team!  Thank you Mr. Horsford for coming on and spending the time with us, it was inspiring and we defiantly enjoyed the conversations!
