"escaping competition through authenticity "  - naval ravikant Trying to stop looking around at what others are doing so much and focus again on finding out what exactly I want to create. I have been trying to remind myself to re-analyze the values, ideas, thoughts that I have brought into my life and creative work to see which ones actually work for me.  My Filmmaking Workshop ► https://ryanjharris.ca/gh5workshop My YouTube Channel ► http://bit.ly/2KOy3bI My DSLR LUTs & Lightroom Presets ► https://ryanjharris.ca/luts Join me on Instagram  ► https://www.instagram.com/ryan.j.harris/ Thanks for listening! Hey folks, as requested, a little chat about getting clients and how I get clients. Ello folks, as requested a little ramble about trying to focus more on your own work and not comparing your work to other peoples work all the time. Comparison can be a great way to learn but I have found when I do too much consuming of other peoples work I actually get less motivated. A new direction for the podcast and it will be tailored more specifically to Filmmakers, Photographers and Freelancers. I decided to make the podcast more of a reflective tool for myself in-which I can just share the things I have learnt building my media company, freelance filmmaking, running a YouTube channel and just being a human in general.  My Filmmaking Workshop ► https://ryanjharris.ca/gh5workshop My YouTube Channel ► http://bit.ly/2KOy3bI My DSLR LUTs & Lightroom Presets ► https://ryanjharris.ca/luts Join me on Instagram  ► https://www.instagram.com/ryan.j.harris/
I have put the podcast on the back burner as I focus on other projects but here is a little ramble from one of my YouTube videos about how I got to where I am as a filmmaker and starting my business with my Brother. Everyones path is so different but maybe this is helpful for a few people.  My Filmmaking Workshop ► https://ryanjharris.ca/gh5workshop My YouTube Channel ► http://bit.ly/2KOy3bI My DSLR LUTs & Lightroom Presets ► https://ryanjharris.ca/luts Join me on Instagram  ► https://www.instagram.com/ryan.j.harris/

Today a chat with Israeli photographer Guy Fattal! Guy is an photographer originally from Israel who now lives in Whistler, Canada. Guys Photography is largely based around skiing and he was the winner of the Deep Winter photography challenge this year. His slideshow was amazing I highly recommend checking it out its up online now. In this episode we talk about his 3 years serving the Israeli military after high school, how he begged his parents for a camera at 13, how he goes about getting clients these days and he tells us about what makes a mean cuppa coffee. Please subscribe and leave a review if you enjoyed! Web: www.ryanjharris.ca Guy’s Work: http://bit.ly/2tNwzZI About Guy: I’ve always been passionate about photography and sports, in particular skiing and snowboarding. This along with my love of people, travel and nature constantly drives me to explore and experience new horizons. I feel that the camera lens is a means to capture and combine the essence of natural backdrops along with the human force of extreme athletic performance. I love photographing brilliant people in incredible surroundings with an emphasis on movement, speed and danger. My goal is to record striking and powerful photos that evoke emotion and fascination.I grew up in the hills surrounding Jerusalem and many of my local photographs echo both the uniqueness, divisions and similarities of the different faiths and cultures that live in the area. Being raised in a small country that’s never out of the news makes for a pressure cooker type of environment. That background is a part of what attracts me to vast mountain ranges and the warm camaraderie of the extreme sports world.
Mason is a biker, photographer, writer, surfer and just all around adventurer. We chatted about how he got into photography, his time at university, a few recent adventures he has been on and the upcoming solar eclipse! I left this conversation super keen to step up my game and just get out there and explore more. Check out his instagram below: Mason: https://www.instagram.com/mason_mashon/ Podcast: www.ryanjharris.ca/podcast Mason's Website: http://masonmashon.com/essays/ Mason’s photography draws from a deep well of influence. Growing up in Vernon BC, and having spent much of his adult life residing in Whistler BC Canada, he honed his craft in a location known worldwide as the holy grail of action sports. Here is where his photography career began. Pursuing the sports he loved Mason became one of the most prolific Whistler ski, snowboard and mountain bike photographers in an area saturated with camera talent. As his passion for the lens grew as did his repertoire of sports. Surfing had always been an infatuation for Mason and it was only natural for him to shoot it. A professional Mountain Biker in his own right, Mason has often been the subject of others lenses and has appeared in magazines worldwide. As a presenter Mason hosted the largest mountain bike festival in the world, Crankworx Whistler, to a crowd of thousands. Starting in 2013 Mason began hosting an action sports TV show called UnderExposed. A show that followed Masons life as a freelance action sports photographer. It is now airing in Canada on APTN, and in the US on Outside TV.
Today we get to hang with writer and photographer Bruin Alexander. Bruin is an amazing photographer, writer and a friend of mine up here in Whistler, BC. His instagram following is over 100,000 and for good reason. His ability to combine words and imagery to tell vivid stories is very unique and not easy to find these days. Thanks for listening please leave a review 1 star or 5 depending what you thought! iTunes: http://apple.co/2ny1Wnl Podcast Website: www.ryanjharris.ca Check out his Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bruinalexander/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ryan.j.harris Bruin's Story: Almost two years ago I had a chunk of money saved, was inquiring about down-payments and in the midst of finishing my junior year of university. A concussion had, rather abruptly, ended my hockey career and despite a well constructed front, I was confused. Really confused. Around that time I picked up an old 35mm camera and had a university professor tell me I ought to pursue my book. Fast forward and you might find me sitting in a cafe somewhere drinking a black coffee and reading a good book, same as always. It hasn’t been a smooth transition, the learning curve with photography turned out to be a lot steeper than expected, and I remain by far the toughest critic of my work. What it has done is fill the void left by the loss of athletics, and I treat it with just as much intensity and hard work. The book has had highs and lows, good and bad days, I guess thats true for all of it. I took the money and invested it, now I fill the my gas tank through licensed images, commercial work and writing gigs. Living in my Cherokee this year has allowed me to climb mountains in Alberta, surf in Oahu, tramp through the southern alps of New Zealand, watch the Yankees in the Bronx, road trip around Iceland, sip whisky in Scotland, scream from the edge of the great granite cliffs in Yosemite, get lost on long nights wandering the cobblestone streets of London and stargaze from the Grand Canyon. I woke up with the sun most mornings and spent evenings scribbling in a journal from the front seat of the car, it's been an amazing ride.
Today we get to chat with Morgan Maassen! He is a very well known name in the world of photography and especially surf photography. He is a 26 year old photographer, filmmaker, and artist that travels the world for 9 months of the year capturing stunning images. His client list includes Corona, Apple, Patagonia and many more and he can be found shooting with some of the top athletes and musicians all around the globe. In this episode we talk about the importance of networking in the creative world, getting rid of jet-lag, how he got into photography, a life of travel and many other cool little bits.
