Description
‘Retro House Mixtape’ is exactly that; an online mixtape of house music picked from the dusty corners of my record collection. The plan is to pick out the kind of house tunes that you don’t hear so much of these days. That said, the occasional big tune or cheeky bootleg does sneak in from time to time. Mixed by Paul, a Bournemouth based DJ with 30+ years of experience performing in bars and clubs across the South West of England.

Join us as we step into another bout of house music.Fun little story about the opening track “Bad Things” by Njoi. I bought this back when it came out in 1995 but for some reason I sold it as part of a big clear out prior to moving to Bournemouth in 1999. Fast forward to a year ago, this track randomly popped into my head. I was then immediately kicking myself having sold my copy of it all those years ago. Less than 48 hours later I’m in town with a little time to kill. I pop into a charity shop (I’m obsessed with picking up second hand cd’s) and sitting there in the vinyl rack was this very record. What are the odds? I couldn’t believe it! In excellent condition and only £4. I snapped it straight up. Glad to have it back in my collection.I was bouncing around the room whilst putting this together. I like how it flips halfway through from a clubby vibe into more disco-edged grooves. AS usual it's mostly retro house jams but there's also a cheeky addition of 'As We Step' by the Audio Bullys, a more recent tune that is dripping with retro vibes.Check the set track list via - retrohousemixtape.com - where you can also leave a tip!Episodes of Retro House Mixtape are also on wegetliftedradio.com Tuesdays at 4pm UK time. After the love-fest from the previous episode we are back down to clubby business for episode 121 of Retro House Mixtape. Starting off with an acappella combo that I recently discovered by chance, it's a sublime mix between the work of King Unique and the vocal from "Someday" by CeCe Rogers. It's a clubby first half including "Loops of Life", a favourite of mine that I remember picking up from BangBang record shop in Bristol. From there the mix transitions into funkier territory bouncing between disco vibes and 80's-esque house from Fred Falke. For the final track we end up in the familiar company of the Rhythm Masters as they remix 'Jus' Come' by Cool Jack. Hope you enjoy this one.FInd me on Threads, Instagram and Bluesky via @retrohousemixtape or check out retrohousemixtape.com for tracklists and other good stuff. Hosted on Acast. Seeing as this episode releases over Valentine's weekend I thought I would put together a "love themed" episode. Every track in this 60-minute mix references LOVE in some way or another. It unexpectedly ended up being a mix that works through various flavours of house. We start in the early 90's with some piano house anthems, drop into some mid-90's epic house, slide into some filtered disco thumpers and then finish on a soulful vocal house tip. Check out the full tracklisting on my website. You can also stream the episode in high quality audio on Mixcloud. Big love to you all! :) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I felt like dipping into more disco-tinged territory for this mixtape after the trance and stompin' house shenanigans of the previous episode. For this mixtape we kick things off with a disco-dub remix by the legendary François Kevorkian. At the same time I also have a bit of fun by playing around with the vocal from "Anytime" by Nu-Birth to create something new and interesting. From there we flow through some tasty disco house grooves before ending up with the classic "Bring it on Down" by Wildchild. I enjoyed putting this one together. If you also enjoy it do please give the mix a like or a comment on Mixcloud. Every little click nudges that algorithm along and helps me tremendously. Cheers. Well hello there. It truly has been a while hasn't it? So yeah, I've been away doing a thing with making music (something I've been mucking about with since the late 90's) and that's been a bit of fun. But over the last few months I've had the itch to record a new mixtape and come back to this project. And so here we are. A new mixtape to kick off a string of new episodes coming out in 2026. This one starts off big and dramatic with an anthem from the rave-era. From there we move through to some classic trance tracks, dip into some melodic late-90's trance and finish up with a stompin' mid-90's house vibe. The plan is to release a new mixtape every other week, most likely on Fridays. So keep an eye out for when those new episodes go live.Don't forget to check out my newly re-designed website at retrohousemixtape.com or look up retrohousemixtape on Instagram and Threads.BTW - A high quality audio version of this episode is available on Mixcloud Hosted on Acast. Hello there. How have you been? It's been a while hasn't it? I haven't dropped a new episode of Retro House Mixtape since before Christmas 2021. I've been on a bit of a break (and I kinda still am) but I had some time to throw a mix together this week so I figured "why not?". Get stuck in to some disco grooves, clubby shufflers and a few stone cold favourites of mine. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Boom! Out of the blue it's another episode of Retro House Mixtape and this week it's another 'Speed Garage' set. It's probably the last Speed Garage mixtape as I've pretty much burned through all the stand out SG tracks in my collection. Oi Oi! Sorry it's been a while since the last episode but I've now got a new mix all ready to go. It's a set of tidy bangers, kicking off with some funky, garagey vibes before sliding into something a bit more driving and heavy. Hope you like it! It's been 25 years this week since Norman Cook put out the Fatboy Slim debut album 'Better Living Through Chemistry'. I thought it would be interesting to put together a mix based on the tracks from the album. Not just a normal mix though, I've been diving into the tracks themselves to pull out loops and samples which are sprinkled through this DJ set. It's a little chaotic but then again that seems on theme when you're talking about Fatboy Slim. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I'm totally switching things up for this episode of Retro House Mixtape as we ditch the retro and dive into a mix of upfront house tunes. This is a mix of three parts as we journey from the bar, to the club and then end up with our hands in the air at the festival. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I'm tapping into a funkier vein of House Music for this episode. Things kick off with a new release from Dave Lee and Horse Meat Disco. I'm very much breaking my own 'Retro House' rules here but this is a classy, timeless sounding tune and I couldn't resist. I also managed to finish with a classic from Frankie Knuckles which was apt seeing as it was recently Frankie Knuckles Day. Happy Frankie Knuckles Day everyone! Hosted on Acast. Seeing as it's August it felt like a good time to throw together some summer-tinged house tunes. Fitting in with the summer theme, it's worth noting the background image used in the cover artwork. It's a photo I took of lovely Bournemouth beach, just a stone's throw away from where I live (technically a stone throw and a half but you get the idea). Hosted on Acast. It's time to switch things up on Retro House Mixtape with a new episode based round late 90's/early 2000's Trance bangers. Check it out for some hugely euphoric screamers that will undoubtedly lift your spirits. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I initially didn't feel like putting a mix together this week but after sinking a few whiskey's and jumping on the decks the tunes soon started flowing. In the end I'm pretty happy with the results. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I felt like throwing together an early 90’s set this week. The original plan was that it would be a set of early 90’s funky U.S. Garage but things kinda got away from me. Along the way things morphed into a bit of a rave vibe (playing Energy Flash right at the end was a particular joy). I’m thinking of doing an old skool rave set at some point so this was something of a warm up. Find the track listing on my blog - retrohousemixtape.com Hosted on Acast. I almost bailed on recording an episode this week as I was a bit under the weather but at the last minute I stumbled across an old archive of mixes and dug this out from April 2010. There's some good stuff in here that I totally forgot about. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
For this episode of Retro House Mixtape we take a trip back to approximately ten years ago, roughly around the 2009/2010 mark. Around this time house music was going through a bit of an electronica phase and that's what this mixtape is packed full of. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
With the Easter weekend done and dusted it felt like a good time to throw together a few tunes with a summer kinda vibe to them. Warmer days are coming and soon we'll be able to go outside and actually see friends face to face. When you do, make sure to stick this mixtape on as you soak up the sunshine. Good times are on their way. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
