Today on the show, Louise Carhart gives us some insight into the shop floor struggles of legal aid workers. Louise is a chief steward and executive committee member of her union, the United Legal Workers (ULW), and works as a staff attorney for the ULW's farm worker project.
Louise describes the unique struggles involved with organizing workers in a more "professional" industry, the need to fight the boss even at non-profit organizations, and the reasons to fight as a union that go well beyond getting pay raises.

August 1st is the deadline for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and United Parcel Service (UPS) to agree on a contract, and Teamsters across the country are showing that they are ready and willing to go on strike if their demands aren't met. Our guest today, Tanner Fischer, is a UPS package car driver, president of Teamsters Local 90 in Des Moines, IA, and a true class struggle unionist. In this episode, he gives us an inside look into the working conditions for UPS workers, the colossal stakes of this labor battle, and the lengths he and his fellow Teamsters are willing to go to win one of the largest labor strikes in US history.
As we approach the deadline, we encourage everyone to show support and solidarity to the UPS Teamsters in their local area. Walk the pickets lines, bring them drinks and snacks, anything to show them that we're rooting for their victory, because a victory for them is a victory for us all.

On December 9, 2025, organizers from the US touched down in Venezuela to participate in the International Peoples' Assembly for Sovereignty and Peace conference. This was in an effort to show solidarity and support the people of Venezuela and their fight for the sovereignty of their country. Jae Franklin was one of these organizers. As a Black Queer organizer in Chicago, Jae serves as a co-chair of the Anti-War Committee Chicago, the Coalition Against the Trump Agenda, and is a member of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization. We had the honor of sitting down with Jae to discuss their first-hand experience of being in Venezuela, and to analyze the US shameful intervention in the country, and how the people of Venezuela and across the world are fighting back.In the early morning hours of January 3, 2026, after this interview was recorded, explosions lit up the skies over Caracas at least seven times. Chicago, IL – 500 organizers convened at the Chicago Teacher’s Union Hall from Friday, November 14 through Sunday, November 16 for the 52nd anniversary national conference of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NAARPR).The conference was the fourth of its kind since the refounding of NAARPR in 2019. It showcased the tremendous growth of the organization and its fighting capacity since its original founding in 1973 out of the movement to free Angela Davis. 530 people registered for the conference, representing 31 NAARPR branches and affiliate organizations.We joined by Monique Sampson who serves as the treasurer of NAARPR, as well as organizer in the Jacksonville Community Action Committee and a rank-and-file leader in her teacher's union. On Sept. 24, 2010, more than 70 FBI agents took part in a series of coordinated raids that were aimed at activists of the anti-war and international solidarity movements, and also members of Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO). In a bogus investigation of “material support of terrorism” charges, seven houses and an office in Minneapolis and Chicago were raided. One of those houses was the home of Jess Sundin, a lifelong activist, a fighter in the anti-war movement, and a member of the Committee to Stop FBI Repression and the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice (TCC4J). Jess joins us today to recall the day she and her comrades were raided by the FBI, the immediate response from the committee, and to make it clear that the only correct response to FBI repression is standing up and fighting back. Colombian revolutionary Simón Trinidad has lived 75 years on this earth and his last 21 have been spent as a prisoner of the U.S. Empire. Once a valuable thinker and peace negotiator for the FARC-EP, four sham trials based on bogus charges saw a U.S. federal court eventually sentence Trinidad to 60 years in the Federal Supermax prison in Florence, CO. The terms of his imprisonment included the psychologically challenging isolation of Special Administrative Measures (SAMs) and the restrictive access to legal support. Sydney Loving is a long time activist that got her start in student activism, took part in the Black Lives Matter movement, was a founding member of the North Texas Action Committee and the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NAARPR).Sydney now serves on the central committee of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), and in serving this role, she visited China to get a first-hand experience of what life is like in a contemporary socialist country.
