The news certainly goes less than hard this week. Rather fittingly, we decided to go down the rabbit hole of how climate policy became the dog-and-pony-show that it is today. Beginning with Jimmy Carter and the energy crisis, we take a LONG detour at the hanging chads and come all the way to Grandpa Joe and how he fell off his bike. Enjoy. Or else.

Offshore drilling isn't cool, and it seems that no matter who is in the White House, it continues to expand. Today we discuss the how's and why's of new offshore drilling legislation as well as how it factors into Russian energy independence. Lastly, this episode was recorded BEFORE the terrible tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts are with those who are suffering, and may ACTION result!

Today we experiment with an audio-only format of podcasting, and kind of like it... Today's topic kicks off our exploration of the humanity of climate change. That is to say, how climate injustice, discrimination, and American-style racism have exacerbated the climate crisis and made it worse for some more so than others. Before that, however, we discuss the recent loss of credibility of yet another pillar of the American government as well as how we recover from it.

As the climate crisis is the single most pressing issue of the century, fixing our planet requires a herculean mobilization of both public support and political will. The magnum opus of the US would be the acclaimed "Green New Deal". However, because its ins and outs remain elusive to many, we'll be first taking a look at the conditions surrounding FDR's "New Deal" in the Great Depression. Later on, we'll investigate the different provisions, controversies, and successes of the "favorite son" of the progressives.

With April 1st, the 2021-22 wet season for the Western United States has fully come to a close. The strong La Nina year brought record rainfall to the PNW while hanging much of the Central Coast and Rockies out to dry. In today's episode of Calfire Crackpots, we'll be looking at snowpack statistics, rainfall graphs, upcoming ballot measures, and oh-so-many government websites to better understand where America is headed for the 2022 Disaster Season.

Like gas station food and Quentin Tarantino movies, some things truly are better than others. The same can be said for cities. While nearly all urban settings have more renewable energy, less car dependence, and a higher standard of living than rural ones, cities like Mobile, Alabama and Dallas exist to offset all of that. Today, we're gonna be exploring the climate efficacy of different cities around the world and how they can be made greener and less dependent on cars. This week's news segment features, as it so often does, yet another outrageously transphobic Republican state legislature.

To take a line from my podcast inspiration, "Well There's Your Problem", "train good, car bad". Today on Calfire Crackpots, we'll begin to pick apart climate engineering that ACTUALLY WORKS with a discussion of commuter and intercity rail in the United States and Europe as well as how to improve it, and how to better answer the complex geographical question that is long-distance transportation in the United States. In "The News" this week, Russia may be pulling a King Bush II and implying that Ukraine is in possession of weapons of mass destruction.
