Ep.6 - The Fly Episode

In this episode we explore the wacky world of fishing flies; the different styles they come in and when/where to implement them.
In this episode we talk all about the heart and soul of fly fishing - fishing dry flies! Gear, Setup, and tactics are all discussed in this epic dry fly conversation.
In this episode, we open pandora's box and dive into nymph fishing...aka "nymphing". 90% of the time, trout feed subsurface, this technique is how we are most successful targeting them there.  Strap in because this is Part 1 of a deep dive with one of the industry's leading nymph fishers, NATK co-host Lance Egan.
In this episode we discuss the newly popular technique known as "Euro-Nymphing." Origins, gear, tactics, are all discussed in this comprehensive episode featuring the man who helped bring the technique to the masses and continues to be one of the world's premiere euro-nymphers, Lance Egan.
In this epsiode we cover at length what it means to fish "streamers" Streamers require their own approach and are often the gateway to fly fishing from conventional angling tactics.  Tune in as Lance Egan and Ray Bley give us the what's what on this popular modern age tactic.
Before I had a podcast, I wanted to see if I could actually pull this off, so I did a couple pilots. George Daniel was nice enough to co-host with me and we did an episode on Tenkara fishing.  There is a LOT of fishy stuff in here and it's not just Tenkara-based.  Grab your "telescopes" and strap in for this Season 1 PREQUEL!
Before the NATK podcast was a real thing, George Daniel helped me take it from concept to reality by recording 2 pilot episodes. This is the 2nd one.  At the time, we were discussing having a subscription podcast that ran parallel to the regular NATK programming.  This is the pilot of that series.  In this epsiode, George gets deeper on Tenkara rigging, euro nymphing on a tenkara rod, small stream fishing, an unsung hero of the fly fishing industry as well as winter fishing - specifically for steelhead on a euro setup.  There is a lot unpacked in short amount of time! We hope you enjoy!
This is the season premiere! And what better way to kick it off than with a cheatsheet to success?! Lance goes through the mistakes he sees most commonly when guiding and in competition. Streamline your game with part.1 of "what NOT to do"!
This is Season 2, Episode 2, Part 2!!! TWO TWO TWO In this episode we continue further down the list of Lance's most commonly seen fly fishing mistakes.  It's a long one and there are a lot of really juicy things to think about and dissect in here.  From tactics to fishing philosophy - we hope you enjoy! Fish on!
Big is not always better! Small stream fishing can be your ticket to ultimate seclusion and a truly unique fishing experience all together.  Better yet, chances are, you have one near by. In this episode we break down the tactics, gear, places, and pain points of angling on smaller streams.  It's a beast of it's own, albiet tiny!
Few sports have so much lore around them as our beloved fly fishing does...but how much of the "tails" (pun intended!) are true? Will your favorite myth get BUSTED? Or will it stand the test of time?  Join us as we have Lance call true or false on the biggest claims in fly fishing.
Lakes, ponds, reservoirs...aka STILLWATER!  These underultilized and underrated fisheries are often over looked by fly fishers who generally prefer fishing rivers or streams and tend to hyper focus on targeting trout.  In part 1 of this 2 part series, we make a compelling case for stillwater fishing whether it be for trout or warm water species.  Either way it's a LOT of fun and should be approached by fly anglers more regularly! Tune in as we break it down for you, gear, boats, flies, spools, lines, dad jokes...yea all that stuff.
We are back with part 2 of the Stillwater series! This time we get really detailed on rigging and techniques, shining some light on the deepest part of the stillwater game.  Lot's to unpack here including Lance's modular leader recipe and tips on the "count-down" game!
