From Capital Hill to Facebook, life seemed perfect! But behind closed doors, the truth was far from picture-perfect. The journey from public appearance to private struggles is a reminder that appearances can deceive. Especially when we remind ourselves internally "this can't happen to someone like me". I sit with special guest Hannah Kay, owner of Thread Talk, to discuss starting over, breaking stigmas with domestic violence, and creating change through hardship and compassion. In a world where silence can be suffocating, our voices have the power to break barriers and ignite change. I am so proud to have had the chance to sit down with a courageous man, Seth Gehle better known on socials as @gobeyondtheshadows in sharing his story of healing, resilience, and strength. Especially for April: the month of SA awareness and prevention. As male survivors, they often face unique challenges in finding their voices and seeking support. But by coming together, we can amplify their stories, dismantle stigmas, and pave the way for healing. To every man who has felt the weight of silence, know that your voice matters. Your story is valid, and your journey toward healing is worthy of recognition and support. Let’s continue to uplift each other, advocate for change, and show the world that healing knows no gender. Together, we are breaking barriers, reclaiming our voices, and paving the path to healing for all. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/littlebitoflife/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/littlebitoflife/support

(Trigger Warning: this episode contains conversation and discussion of sexual assault & sexual assault of a minor) Every 68 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. And every 9 minutes, that victim is a child (RAINN statistics www.rainn.org). These are current statistics for 2024. A lot has changed! With victims, witnesses, families, and more. But what about the statistics in the 80’s when conversations weren’t being taken seriously, children weren’t believed, and what did the justice system look like during this time with victims and families? I sit down with Kelly Wallace. She is a SA victim and survivor by her paternal grandfather. She was asked to testify against him at the age of 8 in the 80s in front of her perpetrator as a child in a court room. With family coverups, alibi’s, and a trial we discuss this case like you’ve never expected!  Episode brought to you by: RAINN (www.rainn.org)  Get Help 24/7 800-656-HOPE (4673) or live chat on website  Special Guest: Kelly Wallace (IG: @kellythewriter)  Website: www.kellythewriter.org  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/littlebitoflife/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/littlebitoflife/support

2023: 1.9 million people were diagnosed with cancer last year, and 6 million dogs were diagnosed with cancer. A large difference? The question is WHY. The average life span of pets has rapidly decreased. With those numbers 1/2 of the dogs over the age of 10 and up will be diagnosed with cancer. Losing my french bulldog just past 2 years old made these questions come up of WHY. What could I have done different? I was asked numerous times after his passing by many in the pet community "what can we do to prevent this from happening to us". And I never had the answer, until now. I sit down with owner of Pac Crest Botanicals, to talk science and statistics with their new line of products for Pac Crest Canine: Preventing Cancer and prolonging the life of our 4 legged family! Losing a pet is something that doesn’t come with a rule book, and often times you don’t know how you’ll feel until you’re in the moment of sadness, happiness, grief, and a longing for a sign. Their beauty and innocence comes into our lives, and changes us forever. The quotes always say “we are their whole life, they’re a part of ours”. Especially our heart dog. Grief is spoken about including the stages, when losing someone in our lives. But so often “what to expect” isn’t discussed when losing a pet. The ups & downs of concern, the loss and the quietness of the house, and what the journey looks like not just for the owner but those connected surrounding the bond of owner/dog. After losing my beloved boy Rupert, I went through the grief with others around me that had been through it prior, and a close friend who went through it after. Hearing that my feelings and emotions were “normal” helped me in my grieving stage. It made me realize the loss of a pet makes us feel so alone! I sit with frenchie owner and author, Samantha Childs, about her beloved Frenchie Henri. How her story of tragedy being shared helped with treatment of animals and a quest for answers. We talk about Henri, Rupert, and truly catch a magical moment on camera that you’d never expect! Be sure to see it on the Little Bit of Life Podcast Youtube Channel! Technology. Social Media. Platforms where we share our every move…. Who are we talking with? Parents, who are our children talking to? Hollywood has created movies with awareness of human trafficking such as the blockbuster series hit of “Taken”. But what we think trafficking is? It’s so much deeper than what Hollywood and society depicts. The #1 opportunity for predators to gain access is sitting in everyone’s home: technology. Smart phones, computers/laptops, tablets, and much more. I sit with Lauren, a resident of Portland, OR (the #1 state for human trafficking in the United States). With her experience in social work/human development and specializing in anti-human trafficking work (including on-campus anti-trafficking organizations) with such lobby groups in Oregon that have been bringing awareness to the state capital we talk about the topic that so many fear to discuss: HUMAN TRAFFICKING. The signs, the awareness, and the reality.  Human Trafficking Hotline: 888-373-7888  Text Help 233733  Special Guest: Lauren (IG @littlesandlashes)  Brought to you by: Bark Technologies (IG @barktechnologies)  Bark Technologies Linktree (https://linkin.bio/barktechnologies/) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/littlebitoflife/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/littlebitoflife/support
College: parents think of education, students think of freedom! Meeting new friends, sororities/fraternities, parties, and having a new chapter of life begin! But one topic that isn’t spoken about between parents and their children, college administrators and college students: Sexual Assault on college campuses. 90% of SA cases on college campuses happen by a repeat perpetrator, and statistics show that a perpetrator will assault up to 6 times while in college. And many don’t realize- a survivor usually KNOWS their perpetrator! What does reporting LOOK like for college students? Meet CALLISTO: non-profit company that provides students with an online forum for recording incidents of sexual assault, accessing more information on school and district specific reporting protocols, and a database that alerts schools when an assailant has assaulted multiple people. ** DISCLAIMER: THIS EPISODE HAS DISCUSSIONS ABOUT SEXUAL ABUSE WITH MINORS, REPORTING, AND LEGAL MATTERS AT THE APPROVAL OF GUEST ** As seen in the new People magazine article of December 18th, 2023 "I'm Healing At Last". I sit down with Stephanie Langlitz, sexually abused at the young age of 14 by her teacher. The abuse happened for years, until she was able to stand up for herself and stop the behavior. However, the affects lingered for decades. When she turned 30, she felt it was time to move on in healing and stop her perpetrator from doing this behavior to others, as at the time he was still teaching in the state of CO. Going through reporting, law enforcement, and a trial her perpetrator was sentenced to justice.
