Today I would like to discuss a topic that I am still working on: resting when you are actually resisting. Because we all know that we need rest, but somehow we ALSO think that that is mostly for other people… Because there is also so much I still want to do, and rest only keeps me from my goals and things I want to do in my life… right? Well. I am learning that the answer is no, come with me on that journey in this podcast! Find me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bmd_danielle/
Today I want to talk about a topic that a lot of people struggle with: how to stop being so scared of failure. Because being very scared of failure is something a lot of us struggle with. It sometimes even stops us from trying something we really want to do. Because what if we fail, and for some even worse: what if others see us fail? Failure is a part of life, we all KNOW this, but we live as if we can avoid it if we just try hard enough. But if you live a life full of avoiding failure, you could argue that you have failed at living your life at it’s fullest potential… right? Today's episode is a bit personal, I tell you how I made a mindset shift in the darkest of my thoughts. How I did it even though I felt like "I couldn't do it". It was the beginning of 2020, we all know where we were headed at the time, but in January Covid was the least of my worries. I had just decided to end my 12 year long relationship. My ex and I had been together since I was 17, we basically grew up together, graduated, started our first adult jobst, moved into our first adult appartment, then moved across the world to start a new life and now I was all alone... If you're anything like me, you were raised to be less sensitive. Your entire life people have told you that your reactions are too big, too emotional, and you just need to toughen up to make it in the real world. Does that sound familiar? In today's episode we will discuss something that has really transformed my life: Journaling. When I found myself at a crossroads, unsure of who I really was or where I was headed, journaling became my sidekick. It helped me tap into my inner wisdom, uncover my passions, and reignite that spark within me. If you have any aspirations to step outside of regular life or the corporate career ladder. This is a super important episode. Because once you step out of those systems, the implemented reward systems also vanish. Friends and family might be supportive, but there is no one cheering you on every step of the way while you make non-conventional life decisions. Not because people don’t want to, but just because there aren’t any systems in place.
Body neutrality basically means taking a neutral perspective towards your body. That means that you may not always love your body, but you are still allowed to live happily, eat food, do things you like, and appreciate everything your body can do. Most days I do love my body, and on the days I don’t I strive to be neutral. But that really wasn’t always the case. From a young age, I was taught to hate my body. And I am not alone. I think most women are taught that their value lies in their beauty. And as a society having the “perfect body” is needed to be perceived as beautiful and therefore valuable. Talk about pressure…
Practicing is something that is needed to get better at something. So far so good, everyone knows that practice makes perfect. For me one of the biggest things to realize was that during practice you are allowed to fail. As long as you keep trying, failure is just practice for the time you will get it right. The list of situations and examples this applies to is endless, it is basically the full human experience, but I will discuss some of them in this podcast to hopefully show you that practicing, and failing, is totally OK as long as you keep going.
