In this uplifting episode of the Pearls of Wisdom Jewelry Podcast, Guy with Southern Jewelry News sits down with Laura Foster of Worthmore Jewelers to celebrate her inspiring journey in the jewelry industry and her recognition as the 2025 Robert Foreman Memorial Scholarship recipient. Laura's story begins at just six years old with a Christmas bead kit that sparked a lifelong passion for jewelry. From selling handmade pieces as a teenager to earning her BFA in jewelry and metalsmithing from University of Georgia, she built her path through creativity, resilience, and determination. Even early setbacks—like not being accepted into a competitive honors program—became pivotal turning points that led her directly into a professional jewelry career. After college, Laura quickly advanced from bench jeweler to leadership roles before finding her home at Worthmore Jewelers, where she has spent nearly 12 years designing custom pieces, guiding clients through life's biggest milestones, and building lasting community relationships. Supported by Worthmore's visionary leadership, Harris, Jerry, and the team. Laura has flourished in a culture that values authenticity, craftsmanship, and integrity. The scholarship award not only validates her dedication but also fuels her next goal: continuing her education through GIA courses to further strengthen her credentials and customer confidence. From managing complex custom projects to navigating price comparisons and modern consumer expectations, Laura shares the realities, challenges, and rewards of today's retail jewelry landscape. Her journey proves that preparation meets opportunity in powerful ways. Tune in for a conversation filled with passion, humor, and heartfelt gratitude—and discover why Laura Foster's story is one you don't want to miss.   Brought to you by: Southern Jewelry News: https://southernjewelrynews.com/  Jewelry Store Marketers: https://jewelrystoremarketers.com/  Learn more about the Pearls of Wisdom Jewelry Podcast https://southernjewelrynews.com/podcast  Subscribe on your favorite podcast platform: • Apple Podcast = https://podcastsconnect.apple.com/my.-.. • Amazon Music/Audible = https://www.audible.com/pd/Pearls-of.-.. • iHeartRadio = https://www.iheart.com/podcast/263-pe... • Spotify = https://open.spotify.com/show/6IU1OHw... • Google Podcast = https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0...
In this episode of the Pearls of Wisdom Jewelry Podcast, we're joined by Sebastian "SEBAS" Velasquez, Brand Manager of INOX Men's Jewelry, for a high-energy, insight-packed conversation on how men's jewelry can thrive at retail when story, training, and lifestyle align. INOX has built a reputation as the brand for "men who don't like jewelry," delivering bold designs, approachable price points, and immersive storytelling that resonates with a traditionally overlooked customer. From their iconic Man Cave displays to their industrial aesthetic and bro-friendly brand voice, INOX has redefined how men engage with jewelry in-store. Sebastian dives into one of the industry's biggest challenges: the breakdown of enthusiasm between trade shows, store owners, and frontline sales staff. To solve this, INOX is making a major investment in retailer success with the launch of School of Hard INOX, a comprehensive video training series created in partnership with Jewelry Sales Academy. These short, engaging modules go beyond specs and materials, teaching sales teams how to communicate stories, emotion, and identity—because stories sell, and facts just tell. The episode also highlights INOX's expanded 2026 support program, including ready-to-use social media campaigns, event-driven marketing assets, and teaser tools that help retailers build hype before new collections even arrive. Listeners will hear about upcoming product drops, including dozens of new styles, and how INOX aligns with meaningful causes like Movember to connect authentically with today's consumer. If you're a retailer looking to energize your men's jewelry category—or a brand seeking inspiration for full-circle support—this conversation delivers real-world insight, humor, and actionable takeaways. In this episode, we shine a spotlight on David Baird, Head of Growth at Master Casting & CAD, a company that has become a trusted partner for jewelers across the country seeking to elevate their custom design capabilities. Based in Chicago's bustling jewelry district, Master Casting & CAD has built its reputation on providing A-to-Z production, including CAD design, casting, polishing, and finishing — all with a level of care and collaboration that sets them apart. David shares how the company, founded more than 20 years ago by Oscar Valencia and now incorporating the next generation with Oscar's son joining leadership, remains rooted in family values, craftsmanship, and personal relationships. Their goal has always been to strike the perfect balance: large enough to handle volume, but personal enough to deeply support every jeweler they work with. Throughout the conversation, David highlights how the jewelry industry is shifting toward custom work, with customers wanting meaningful, personalized pieces that tell a story. He explains how Master Casting & CAD uses advanced technology like 3D rendering and AI-assisted design tools to help jewelers speed up production, improve the customer experience, and close sales more confidently. This includes allowing clients to provide images, generate lifelike previews, and make easy adjustments before a piece is ever cast — reducing risk and increasing satisfaction. David also touches on the challenges of rising costs, finding skilled bench jewelers, and staying ahead of evolving technology. Yet, through trade show involvement, outreach, and strong community engagement through groups like RJO, IJO, Jewelers Helping Jewelers, and CBG, Master Casting & CAD continues to thrive. This episode is full of insight, inspiration, and practical takeaways — be sure to listen and discover how your store can benefit from partnering with Master Casting & CAD!   Brought to you by: Southern Jewelry News: https://southernjewelrynews.com/    Jewelry Store Marketers: https://jewelrystoremarketers.com/    Learn more about the Pearls of Wisdom Jewelry Podcast https://southernjewelrynews.com/podcast   Subscribe on your favorite podcast platform: • Apple Podcast = https://podcastsconnect.apple.com/my.-..   • Amazon Music/Audible = https://www.audible.com/pd/Pearls-of.-..   • iHeartRadio = https://www.iheart.com/podcast/263-pe...   • Spotify = https://open.spotify.com/show/6IU1OHw...   • Google Podcast = https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0...

In this special episode, Guy and Elesa are ready to talk about a huge, surprising announcement: Southern Jewelry News (SJN) has new ownership! Guy reveals that Chris Smith and Bill Newnam, the former owners, have sold Southern Jewelry News... to him! This transition marks the first major change since SJN began printing monthly in 1988. After over 35 years and 25 years of running the publication, Bill and Chris were ready to retire. Elesa, who has worked with the former owners for three decades, enthusiastically endorses Guy, calling him the "perfect person to take over the rain". Guy will be working alongside Elesa and Martha Oswald to continue the legacy of the longest-running and most respected jewelry publication. Guy reflects on the incredible achievement built by Bill, Chris, Elesa, and Martha. He has always seen SJN as a "gold mine", and he is honored to take on this big undertaking with his JSM team, despite having no prior publishing experience. The team addresses a major change: due to the challenging high costs of paper and postage, Southern Jewelry News and Mid-America Jewelry News (MAJN) will no longer be printed monthly. They plan to publish only a few print issues each year, possibly one every quarter, mainly for trade shows. However, Guy is committed to maintaining the "heart and soul" and respected content of SJN while implementing exciting new features and improvements online by the beginning of January. Join Elesa and Guy as they celebrate the 100th episode of the podcast and look forward to improving the website, the podcast format, and bringing more value to the industry. The future is bright, and change is good! In this episode of the Pearls of Wisdom Jewelry Podcast, we sit down with the remarkable Todd Malcolm of Malcolm Jewelers in Moline, Illinois. A third-generation jeweler with more than 39 years of experience, Todd carries forward an 80+ year family legacy that began with his grandfather in 1941. From their roots in Philadelphia to building one of the Quad Cities' most trusted jewelry names, Malcolm Jewelers has stood as a symbol of craftsmanship, family, and community. Todd shares how he boldly transformed the business in 2003 from a traditional 3,000-square-foot full-scale jewelry store into a specialized, by-appointment-only jeweler. This shift not only allowed him to reduce overhead but also gave him the freedom to connect personally with clients and focus on what he does best: custom jewelry design, restoration, and one-of-a-kind creations. His celebrated Stories from the Heart Collection—inspired by love, family, faith, and personal milestones—represents both his artistry and his dedication to creating meaningful jewelry that tells stories across generations. We explore the challenges of navigating changing economies, evolving consumer habits, and the shift from retail to wholesale. Todd shares one of his most meaningful successes—creating his first piece, "In Mother's Arms", after losing his brother to cancer. The pendant raised $8,000 for Gilda's Club and touched countless lives, including a woman who wore hers until her granddaughter's remission. This heartfelt beginning helped launch his Stories from the Heart Collection. He also offers invaluable advice for young jewelers: embrace education through Gemological Institute of America (GIA), gain hands-on experience in independent jewelry stores, and get involved in your local community. This conversation is filled with wisdom, legacy, and inspiration. Todd's journey proves that jewelry is more than metal and stones—it's about meaning, connection, and memories. In this episode of the Pearls of Wisdom Podcast, brought to you by Southern Jewelry News and Jewelry Store Marketers, host Guy welcomes Chuck Keohler of Anthony's Jewelers and special guest Chuck Frey of Charles Frey and Company. With more than 40 years of experience, Chuck Frey specializes in helping jewelers navigate major business transitions—from liquidations and stock reduction events to retirement, relocation, or passing the store to a successor. While many think of liquidations as the end of the road, Frey explains that transitions don't always mean closure. For some stores, it's about continuing under new ownership—whether that's a family member, long-time employee, or an outside buyer. His company helps jewelers determine realistic purchase prices, design effective transition sales, and generate the cash flow needed to support the process. Frey also highlights the importance of goodwill and reputation, noting that buyers are often attracted not just to inventory but also to the community ties a store has built. He shares strategies such as advertising "retiring, seeking buyer" events, which create urgency while opening doors for potential new owners. Packed with practical insights, this conversation explores succession planning, financial realities, and creative solutions for jewelers preparing for change. Whether you're considering retirement or seeking to sell, this episode provides valuable tools for ensuring a smooth transition and preserving your store's legacy.   Brought to you by: Southern Jewelry News: https://southernjewelrynews.com/ Jewelry Store Marketers: https://jewelrystoremarketers.com/ Learn more about the Pearls of Wisdom Jewelry Podcast https://southernjewelrynews.com/podcast Subscribe on your favorite podcast platform:  • Apple Podcast = https://podcastsconnect.apple.com/my.-..  • Amazon Music/Audible = https://www.audible.com/pd/Pearls-of.-.. • iHeartRadio = https://www.iheart.com/podcast/263-pe... • Spotify = https://open.spotify.com/show/6IU1OHw... • Google Podcast = https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0...
In this episode of the Pearls of Wisdom Podcast, recorded live at the Atlanta Jewelry Show, host Guy welcomes Melissa Mor, founder of Mrs. Push. Melissa shares the story behind her business, which focuses on "push presents"—special gifts given to moms after childbirth or to celebrate motherhood. While the tradition has existed for years, it has only recently become a widely recognized and celebrated category. Melissa explains how Mrs. Push curates primarily jewelry pieces from female- and mom-owned brands. Popular selections include stackable birthstone bands, charms that can be added with each child, and mother-daughter bracelets that create lasting connections. These pieces go beyond jewelry—they become symbols of love, family, and milestones worth remembering. She also highlights the importance of storytelling in retail. Customers often share personal journeys when choosing a piece, whether it's a dad shopping for his partner's first child or a mom honoring children already grown. These stories give jewelry deeper meaning and transform gifts into lifelong keepsakes. He even shares why he often invests more here than in Las Vegas or New York, crediting the supportive environment created by both vendors and show staff. Beyond the business side, Evan also captures the vibrant culture that surrounds the show: $10 hot lunches, black-tie galas, and the chance to catch a Braves game just across the street. It's a blend of professionalism, hospitality, and fun that keeps him—and many others—coming back year after year. This conversation is a celebration of community, connection, and the enduring spirit of the jewelry industry.   Brought to you by: Southern Jewelry News: https://southernjewelrynews.com/ Jewelry Store Marketers: https://jewelrystoremarketers.com/ Learn more about the Pearls of Wisdom Jewelry Podcast https://southernjewelrynews.com/podcast Subscribe on your favorite podcast platform:  • Apple Podcast = https://podcastsconnect.apple.com/my.-..  • Amazon Music/Audible = https://www.audible.com/pd/Pearls-of.-.. • iHeartRadio = https://www.iheart.com/podcast/263-pe... • Spotify = https://open.spotify.com/show/6IU1OHw... • Google Podcast = https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0...
