Rest

We live in a world that idolizes hustle. But what if rest was actually the secret weapon?Todd Vinson with Overlander Consulting, is back talking about rest. Not just taking a nap or getting into some good sleep habits. The kind of rest he talks about with Chris is much more.Physical Rest restores the body. When we sleep, we heal. Muscles rebuild. Hormones balance. Clarity returns.Emotional Rest allows us to breathe. It gives space to name what we’re feeling instead of stuffing it down or numbing it out.Mental Rest silences the noise. It's the margin we create when we step away from screens, plans, and the need to solve every problem.Todd Vinson is the founder of Overlander Consulting.Overlander's Goal is to be:Rooted in insight.‍Driven by purpose.‍Focused on people, over performance. To find out more about Overlander Consulting, schedule a 30 minute session or subscribe to Todd's blog click on: https://www.overlanderconsulting.com/contact

It’s the core of who we are.It connects us with other people.Switch on Your Brain p. 94, It is very interesting that every cell in the body is connected to the heart and the brain controls the heart and the mind controls the brain. So, whatever we are thinking about affects every cell in our body. Our minds, wills, and emotions (hearts) are meant to support one another. Inner conflict is evidence something is not right.Madeline Movie exampleWe speak to one another through our souls. Relationships are developed here. Our souls have to be restored at times. Psalm 19:7 "The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple."Psalm 23:2-3 "He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake." Our personalities are experienced here. The enemy throws a thought my way to impact my mind. If I allow it to settle on my mind, that thought impacts my emotions. If I allow it to settle on my emotions, it impacts my will/desire. When my will/desire is impacted, it becomes an action. If we are not able to express what is inside of our souls we will not be able to be understood and known as we desire. How Do We Take Care of the SoulWhen the soul is given attention and cared for, we discover the things which are in our hearts. A mentor can help another person discover the things in his or her heart. `Simple Comfort is a wonderful thing to receive, experience, and to enjoy. Soul and Mentoring:Mentoring: Strengthening the Soul of another person. What are simple comforts?Don’t make this complicated. What makes you tick, brings you joy, fills your cup? The things that will be simple comforts are unique to who you are.Caring for Chris’ soul examples:A genuine conversationA good meal prepared and shared with the desires to bless othersSitting next to a fireplace being warmed or outside by a campfireA good slow rain while taking a nap or watching a good movieSharing memories with loved ones around a kitchen tableSitting by a lake or ocean and enjoying natureMusicCaring for my soul examples (Christina):Sitting in the backyardDrinking Coffee and readingSitting in a coffee shopThinking about the future with ZionImagining what I want to do to improve the backyardBeing quietHaving a day to myselfWritingCaring for our souls is not a one time thing. Challenge:Take a self assessment of the condition of your soul. What’s one thing you can do to care for your soul this week?Caring for your soul builds resilience.Caring for your soul is not dependent on someone else.
We believe people are comprised of The Six Areas: physical, mental, emotional, relational, professional and/or educational and spiritual. Today, we will focus on the spiritual component talking about the soul. Our souls are meant to be cared for but get overlooked many times. Some people are never taught about their souls and what you don’t know or understand, cannot be cared for.Direction of the Podcast:What is the Soul? Why is the Soul important? How do we take care of it?You'll want to continue listening and watch for part two as they continue their discussion of how to care for the soul!

You've heard Chris and Christina speak about The Six Areas that comprise a person:PhysicalRelationalEmotionalMentalSpiritualProfessional/EducationalToday they jump into the topic of what it looks like to talk to a mentee about their spiritual life. Using a tool they have developed called My Life/My Story, they use the same principles of this tool to begin authentic conversations about a persons spiritual life. What sort of memory, experience or encounter have you had in the past with God. Allow time for a mentee to sit and reflect with that question. Then, move onto the present and ask what is their spiritual life like right now. Help, if needed, the mentee discuss what they are currently experiencing in their spiritual life. Finally, move on towards questions that inquire about hopes and dreams a mentee may have for their future in regards to their spiritual life.As always, great conversations take intentionality. A good question about your mentee's spiritual life may open up deeper wells than you expected - and that's a good thing!Real Life Mentoring podcast is brought to you by Shelter Insurance - The Aaron Ruiz Agency. The Fourth Motivation

The Fourth Motivation

2025-05-0940:14

Chris and Christina originally aired a podcast called The Three Levels of Motivation (Season 3 Episode 25 on Feb. 7 airdate). While it was helpful we did receive some feedback that made us think there may be more to the story. That’s the reason for today’s podcast with Rob Schrader. Here's a review of The Three Levels of Motivation:Reference: Beyond Weight Loss Documentary by Keith Klein, Certified Clinical NutritionistMotivation TypesLevel One: Fear Based Motivation. It gets your attention but it’s not lasting. Example: Spouse says you have to stop drinking or they will leave.Level Two: Feedback Based Motivation. Example: Someone compliments you on weight lossLevel Three: Intrinsic Based MotivationDefinition of intrinsic: innate, inborn, comes from withinChange from having to do something to wanting to do it.Example: Want to get healthy to be around for future grandchildren. While all these are good this is where Rob steps in with The Fourth Motivation: Love-based motivation. Every other type previously mentioned is inherently selfish and self-serving. Biblically, the highest form of motivation is other-serving, it's motivated by love for another. Our sin nature is self-serving and our culture is centered around the individual and the self.Today's Sponsor: Shelter Insurance - The Aaron Ruiz Agency, https://www.shelterinsurance.com/CA/agent/ARUIZ
