In this episode, I tell you all about the experience of my first sober vacation to Mexico for my best friends wedding. I share about how my mindset going into the trip was important in maintaining my sobriety, not being tempted to drink despite the challenge of being surrounded by alcohol at an all inclusive resort and how it felt being able to remember all the special moments and connecting more deeply with friends and family. My best friend is here! In this episode, I’m joined by my long time best friend, Alicia. We discuss how our friendship and drug use started in high school, how our substance use changed when I moved to a new city shortly after graduating, and what her relationship with alcohol is now. Alicia also shares her perspective on what it was like to watch from another city as I drank and what it’s like when your best friend gets sober.
In this episode, I share all the details of my first sober birthday. This birthday weekend had everything from a pottery class, and a psychic medium, to going to an NBA game. This was the most fun birthday that I'd had in a very long time, and I did it all without alcohol.
