Lady Hale was the first and only woman to be appointed as a Law Lord in 2004, then the first woman to serve on the UK Supreme Court before becoming its first woman President in 2017. But this is not the only time that Lady Hale has been first. She graduated from the University of Cambridge with a starred first at the top of her class, and then became the first woman and youngest person ever to be appointed to the Law Commission at the age of 39. Her memoir, Spider Woman: A Life, is a story of formidable courage and inspiration.
