If any of you listened to the trailer I dropped a couple weeks ago, for We Met Online: Season 2, you might recognize the voice of today’s guest, Dr Roger McFillin. Or you might recognize it from his own show, The Radically Genuine Podcast, which ranks in the top 2% of downloads worldwide Dr. McFillin is a clinical psychologist and a writer, who devoted his 20 year career to providing care for adults and adolescents struggling with depression, eating disorders, PTSD, and suicidal behavior, and has also become deeply disillusioned with the mental health system in this country, particularly its connection the pharmaceutical industry, which has led to what he believes is the rampant overprescription of ineffective — and often dangerous — psychotropic drugs. Sit back and listen as we discuss incels, loneliness, the mental health system, some pretty dark secrets about pharmaceuticals, and even a bit about my own firsthand experiences of late! Today’s episode is with Vintologi, the founder of the eponymous "religion" and author of the Transmaxxing Manifesto. It was recorded in July of 2021 if certain references are out of date. After a very brief TL;DR of this whole sordid business that's been ruining my life for the better part of a year, we dive into an interview with... another British criminologist... named Christopher Lowe (@ChrisLowe1994), who's working on his masters and focusing on incels. It's a lovely conversation that I'm sure you'll enjoy!PS Stay tuned at the end for a little public service announcement regarding certain behaviors that are COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE and their consequences, starting now."Every Breath You Take" by The Police. 1983. Tina (@LlamatoTina) is a 23 year old transwoman from Germany - a former associate of Vintologi, the Swedish author of the eponymous Transmaxxing Manifesto. She is a transmaxxer qua transmaxxer, who endorses transitioning for all sorts of reasons besides gender dysphoria, including "personal gain" and escaping inceldom. But her own story is much more complex. "Our Lips Are Sealed" by The Go-Go's. 1981. Courtesy of I.R.S. Records. Today's episode, officially 100, brings you a timeless theme: a currycel comes to the West with hopes of living out the immigrant dream. Today's episode is about what they’re all about - obsessions, rejections, frustrations, and putting one foot in front of the other in the face of it all. It features Trevor (@mrmapleleafrag), a 26-year-old incel and writer from far up North in Canada, who works in local news, and struggles with OCD. We discuss his experiences with the mental health system and dating, and a savage one-itis on a counselor that still haunts him. "LOVE." by Kendrick Lamar. 2017. Courtesy of UMG. Today’s episode features a young man who’ll go by Paul, in his 30s, from England, who’s not quite an incel - he lost his virginity at 27 and had a brief relationship of a couple months - but otherwise, he basically is. He thinks that his relationship with his mother might have had something to do with it, a theme that seems to run quietly throughout the incelosphere. "Momma Said" by the Shirelles. 1961. This week’s guest is Jake (@FIat_Stanley), a 23 year-old American incel who doesn’t really identify as such; he isn’t much of a joiner. He’s also abstinent from alcohol and mind-altering substances, and he believes there’s a connection. We discuss, and get into a fascinating discussion about ethics, consent, and social engineering. Today we sit down with Joe Whittaker (@CTProject_JW), an extremism researcher who teaches cybercrime at Swansea University in Wales, to continue our series about the wonderful world of Countering Violent Extremism. Today’s guest is the writer Mary Gaitskill, whose novels and short stories have been adapted into motion pictures and nominated for major literary prizes like the PEN/Faulkner award, the National Book Award, and the National Critics Circle Award, and if you’ve read any of them, you know why, you know how her characters make you feel seen, for all the cruelty and strength and fragility and beauty and ugliness you possess, how they remain alive within you long after you turn the last page, and change the way you move through the world. We first met when she interviewed me for it, actually, to talk about incels — with whom she feels a kinship for many reasons that we get into today... ———————————————————————"Hallelujah" (cover) performed by Jeff Buckley. 1994. Today’s guest , Matt, is also a former incel, who ascended at 23, and is currently married — essentially — with four children, and studying psychology. He also has a YouTube channel, sort of a self-help for incels, called @BlackPillMedicine. It’s a tiny channel, in a sea of similarly themed content - self improvement, DIY psychology, red pillers, and the like — but Matt stands apart from this crowd, for a number of reasons, including his comprehensive theory of inceldom as a social disorder. Happy New Year, world! Before our first official episode of the year, with Black Pill Medicine, here's a little bonus -- the audio from my chat with Dr. Carolina Hermes of Brazil, that she graciously let me share with you all here. Carolina's YouTube channel is youtube.com/@carohermes, and her Twitter account is @Manosphere101. (The bio is "satire of the Manosphere" and I know some listeners were curious if this would be an anti-incel perspective, but it really wasn't -- very interesting though!) Hello world! Today's episode is a bonus, year-in-review medley, as a way to take inventory before heading on into 2023. PodMother loves all her children equally, so we're not going to a "Best Of" list. Today we’re going to continue this streak of exceptional interviews and our branching out of the WEIRD world we often inhabit (that’s the acronym WEIRD: Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich and Democratic) with Karun, a currycel living in India. This is a timely interview in part because just last week we had a mind numbingly bad article in GNET (the global network on extremism and technology) titled “Incel Extremism in India: A view from the global south.” I won’t be including that link in the notes but you can google. I’m sure you’ll all be shocked when I tell you that none of its “insights” are reflected in the conversation you’re about to here... Outro: "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand. 2004.
