Smell was the vital sensory pulse of ancient Egyptian life. In this week’s episode, I share the path that led me to research ancient cosmetic and perfume practices, discovering how ancient Egyptian perfume artefacts were made and used for both religious and personal use. In 2019, my research into olfactory wearable technologies brought me to make ancient Egyptian perfume cones, temple incenses and oils. What did ancient egypt smell like? Anyone interested in the art of fragrance might almost smell the ancient Egyptian perfume wafting from the speakers. Please consider rating and reviewing my show. Sensuous Peripheries is a podcast about the senses. It’s the debut platform for the multidisciplinary creative studio Peripherie, founded by myself Caroline, a researcher, designer, technologist, and writer who’s explored sensory design and technology examples at length. Consider this introductory episode of Sensuous Peripheries, a “who I am, how I got here, where I’m going” prologue where I share my podcast content creation approach. I’m a student of the complex; why is design sustainability important? And what is design for sustainability? questions. In this podcast, I’ll shine a light on how the body’s sensory spectrum intersects with nature’s patterns to name and define a centre for conscious art and design aesthetics. These conversations offer the latest, innovative examples relating sensory art mediums, issues, design history and multidisciplinary creative practices.  Each week, the Sensuous Peripheries Podcast will release ideas or guest interviews conducted by myself, Caroline, with leading creators in the arts, design, research, business, and beyond, representing work characterised by conscious design or purpose. These people make an impact in their field by contributing to larger conversations about the living world we’re all part of. The familiar thread? These creators are shaping design futures that centre on well-being and flourishing. They’ve fearlessly made the leap to pursue creative new visions by stepping out of norms. Each weaves a distinct perspective on our sensuous experience to imaginate emergent futures. I created the Sensory Peripheries podcast to give you creative strategies that help you do the same.  Is there an idea or a moment from this episode that has stayed with you?
