While consumers may not understand all the jargon, quirks, and idiosyncrasies of the automotive industry, their interests are piqued once they have a basic definition of a connected car and its potential benefits. However, that interest only extends so far, as consumers view certain connected car features and capabilities as more valuable than others.   This realization is among the key findings in a body of research from Salesforce in partnership with YouGov, released in January 2024, that surveyed nearly 2,200 U.S. drivers aged 18 and over. In this solo episode, AutoVision News Radio host Carl Anthony summarizes the findings of this Salesforce study on connected cars and shares key insights from the survey on which features consumers will either pay more money or trade their personal data for.  More Resources  On Automotive Cloud 9 ft. Connected cars are forecasted to make up 95 percent of all vehicles on the road by 2030, with each one generating an estimated 25 gigabytes of data per hour – as much data as it would take someone to stream nearly 600 hours of music. How such data may be leveraged for new revenue channels through personalized, value-added features is a prime area of focus for the automotive industry.  Achyut Jajoo, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Manufacturing and Automotive at Salesforce, joins Carl to discuss the relationship between connected cars and the Automotive Cloud, how the industry can enhance its communication with customers, and the promise that software-defined vehicles represent.  Carl and Achyut also travel back to 1999 to the founding of Salesforce in San Francisco and reminisce about fond memories of learning to drive when they were teenagers.  The History of Salesforce: http://tinyurl.com/5f77at7j   Salesforce Automotive Cloud Helps Deliver the Future of Connected Cars with Data & AI: http://tinyurl.com/tb6xz95c   2024 Salesforce Connected Car Study Reveals Features Consumers Will Pay a Premium or Trade Personal Data For:http://tinyurl.com/m9fss8tn   Follow AutoVision News on LinkedIn: https://tinyurl.com/49jyrd3b
Like every other aspect of automotive, the retail arm of the industry is undergoing immense change. Yet one constant remains for dealerships, no matter where they are located or which logos are on the building: it's the people business first, the car business second.  Jennifer Lennox is the Vice President of People, Culture, and Learning at AutoCanada, a North American dealer group operating over 80 franchised locations comprised of nearly 30 brands. In this episode of AutoVision News Radio, Jennifer expands on AutoCanada's core values and explains why the organization invests in its relationships with employees and customers.  Carl also recalls his time in automotive retail and his Women in Literature class in college, as Jennifer shares a powerful message about why women professionals should embrace who they are.  Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace via Pew Research Center: http://tinyurl.com/bdzy5z2d  AutoCanada & The Value of People w/ Jennifer Lennox: http://tinyurl.com/5ynmpxw7  From the Women In Literature Class at Iowa Western, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft via Britannica: http://tinyurl.com/mvxfh5n2  Follow AutoVision News on LinkedIn: https://tinyurl.com/49jyrd3b
Consumer trust is one of the most significant pieces of the ADAS puzzle. Although the value of consumer trust with regard to ADAS is well acknowledged, it's no less important, especially as technologies like DMS enter the picture.  What is the link between consumer trust and the fully optimized synchronization of ADAS and DMS? When the external and internal sensors are on the same page, communicating in tandem with the intent to keep vehicle occupants safe, what would that do for consumer trust? Seeing Machines has been tackling these and other complex questions for over two decades, driven by an internal purpose of getting everyone home safe. CEO Paul McGlone joins Carl to discuss the relationship between ADAS and DMS, why consumer trust is essential, and how the company continues to rally around its founding principles of safety.  Seeing Machines YouTube: http://tinyurl.com/mtckfy25  General Safety Regulation via the European Commission: http://tinyurl.com/3avc7x2c  Follow AutoVision News on LinkedIn: https://tinyurl.com/49jyrd3b
Daily traffic volumes have rebounded from pandemic lows in 2020, but perhaps not surprisingly, traffic and pedestrian fatalities have risen in tandem. Maybe also not surprisingly, unsafe driving behaviors like speeding, texting, and operating under the influence continue to impact these statistics. Among the questions are why people engage in risky behaviors behind the wheel and what countermeasures can be implemented to prevent such behavior.    These questions are at the core of the latest Traffic Safety Culture Index (TSCI) survey from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, released in December 2023. The latest TSCI survey identified six driver profiles and examined the social approval and/or disapproval of certain unsafe driving habits.   Dr. Rebecca Steinbach, Senior Researcher for the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, joins Carl to provide additional insight into the findings of the latest TSCI survey. Dr. Steinbach explains the six driver profiles, how perceptions towards speeding have changed, and the little things we can do to become safer drivers.   2022 Traffic Safety Culture Index Summary Report: https://tinyurl.com/5awfb3kr  Pedestrian Deaths Have Skyrocketed.
