Description

On Formerly Straight, Sloan & Warren dissect pop culture, the role of femininity & masculinity, & being queer in the modern world. Whether you’re still dressing for the male gaze or wearing cargo shorts & flip flops, they’re here to say, “Same.” As our two hosts, & occasional guests unpack the gay world around them, you’ll find yourself wondering, “How do they balance sincerity AND hilarity?” To those of you already initiated into the Alphabet Mafia, thank you for your service. To the straights stumbling their way out of the gray & into the rainbow…boy do they have a pack of skittles for you.

My (Not So) Broken Vagina

Before taking a break for the ‘22 holidays, Sloan & Warren address the Club Q shooting & give Sam Smith & Kim Petras their flowers for going number one on the charts with their song “Unholy,” during their iconic show segment, Queer News Alert (QNA). The besties then get into one of their most vulnerable topics yet: the vagina. Sloan takes us through how her vagina went from broken to partially repaired, as she describes what pelvic floor physical therapy is, how vaginismus sounds kinda like a holiday, and how despite what the legends may say, sex isn’t supposed to hurt.
In this week’s episode Warren reintroduces himself under his new to you but old to him name, Warren Hastings, as the besties discuss that though he is a Hastings he does not come from ~generational wealth~. They then get into their Queer News Alert where they discuss everything from Madonna doing poppers on live to TikTok personality Dylan Mulvaney speaking with President Joe Biden about trans rights. Sloan and Warren then dig into all the nuances of friendship, and specifically what their dynamics have been like in queer friendships and relationships.

Happy Queer History Month! In this week’s Queer News Alert the besties discuss Madonna (maybe?) coming out, the implications of having a green velvet couch and Ed Sheeran’s strange habit of gifting penis statues. S&M then dive into some queer history, while discussing how our language has evolved over the years to become more inclusive, including the shifts that have occured in how we understand being queer within ourselves and as a society. *This episode was inspired by a Queer History thread that Sloan found on Twitter by Hugh Ryan, a writer, historian, and curator who specializes in queer topics.
The besties bring on film buff, co-host of The Film Majors pod, and Sloan’s boyfriend, Zack Harris, to further their discussion on homoeroticism within straight male relationships through both personal experiences and moments in media such as, ‘The Lord Of The Rings,’ ‘The Bear,’ and ‘Top Gun,’ as well as to discuss the good ole bromance, and how we should all be kissing the homies goodnight. S&M also chat about Sloan falling asleep during ‘Bros,’ how the best romcom trope is someone falling, hitting their head, and forgetting their past, and how Velma from Scooby Doo is and has always been ~gay~, in this week’s Queer News Alert.

The besties rehash a Central Cee lyric from their last episode with some new context, and chat about Shake Shack taking over a historical landmark in LA that was a part of the LGBTQ+ Civil Rights movement in this week’s Queer News Alert. S&M then get into the relationship between masculinity and homoeroticism, if certain affection that women show each other is also seen as homoerotic, and how homophobia might play a part in it.
In a very special episode with their very first guest, Morgan Roberts, aka Drag King Robert Morgans, Sloan, and Moose dive into the world of drag. Between establishing which ‘RuPaul's Drag Race’ season to watch first to the disparity between drag queen & king representation in the media and "the scene,” these 3 long-time friends discuss their journeys with one of the alphabet mafia's most profitable art forms. S&M also dissect an ~interesting lyric~ and dive DEEPER into the history and cultural relevancy of "cunt.”

In this week’s Queer News Alert, Sloan and Moose follow up on some recent pop culture queer baiting from their last episode and ask whether one particular pop star is guilty of gay erasure. The besties then discuss the reclaiming of terms that have traditionally been used against the queer community, providing historical context for their origins, and have thrilling debates on who should and shouldn’t say them (is Sloan cancelled?). They even go on a side quest to explore the “vulvatic region.”
The besties discuss codifying same-sex marriage into law, as well as the world’s most recent public health emergency, Monkeypox, during their new segment “Queer News Alert.” Sloan and Moose then dive deep to explore whether or not celebrities owe us a label to define their sexuality…and depending on the circumstances they kind of think they might. Buckle up for a motherlode of controversial statements and brave (?) opinions.
On the second episode of Formerly Straight, Sloan and Moose discuss the overturning of Roe V. Wade and performative liberalism. They also get granular as they analyze a few Pride campaigns from 2022 like the double bottom/top Burger King buns, Target’s pride collection, and a bottom friendly menu stolen from The Bottom's Digest by Postmates. Put your seatbelts on homos!!

From pillow-humping to Panda Express to U-Haul therapy…Sloan and Moose leave no rock unturned on the first episode of Formerly Straight. These besties discuss the stories behind their queer reckoning, why their personal style has gotten gayer, and that being queer is about more than who you’re sleeping with…but PROBABLY has something to do with the porn you’re watching.
