[This episode first ran on October 19, 2022] Dr. Jeff Meldrum was one of the foremost Bigfoot researchers out there. He was a Professor of Anatomy & Anthropology at Idaho State University, and his work centered on the evolution of hominin bipedalism. He joined Talking Strange in 2022 (on the 55th Anniversary of the famed Patterson-Gimlin footage) to discuss his 25 years of work, as well as opening up about what Sasquatch "disclosure" might look like (similar to the serious focus UFO/UAP are currently receiving). Additionally, he opened up about whether he thought the U.S. government has explored the topic, what it takes to become a reliable trustworthy Bigfoot researcher, and the paradigm shift and importance of indigenous people coming forward to openly discuss their stories. _______________________________________________________________ The Talking Strange Show with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as experts in all things strange and unexplained. On this episode of Talking Strange, host Aaron Sagers explores the haunting true crime and paranormal story behind Blood & Myth, the new Hulu original documentary now streaming. Aaron speaks with Blood & Myth director Kahlil Hudson and author/executive producer James Dommek Jr.about the violent crimes that shook a remote Native village in Northern Alaska, and the chilling possibility that they were connected to ancient legends of the Inukuns, mysterious “little people” long feared in Inupiaq culture. At the center of the story is Teddy Kyle Smith, a respected Inupiaq actor turned fugitive, who claimed he was driven to violence after a terrifying encounter with the Inukuns in the Alaskan wilderness. Through the eyes of James Dommek Jr., Blood & Myth investigates whether this was madness, myth, or something more sinister where true crime and folklore collide. In this interview, Aaron and his guests discuss the challenges of telling a story that balances Native oral traditions, chilling folklore, paranormal mysteries, and the tragedy of real crimes. If you’re fascinated by true crime documentaries, paranormal encounters, Alaskan legends, or the intersection of folklore and reality, you won’t want to miss this conversation. On this episode of Talking Strange, host Aaron Sagers chats with writer and producer Christopher Monfette, the creative mind behind TexArcanum, the new supernatural western comic from Dark Horse Comics. TexArcanum is a genre-bending tale of cowboy arcanist Avery Belle, who finds himself caught in a supernatural land feud teeming with ghosts, demons, gods, and forgotten folklore. Think Yellowstone meets The X-Files, with a splash of Elmore Leonard grit and Stephen King dread. Monfette shares how his background as an entertainment journalist for IGN and G4 eventually led him to comic writing — including his collaboration with Clive Barker on Hellraiser — and how his TV work on 12 Monkeys, Star Trek: Picard, and the upcoming Vision series from Marvel has shaped his unique narrative voice. We also dig into the horror-noir Americana of TexArcanum, its influences from folklore, pop culture, and myth, and what it means to write a cowboy steeped in arcane mysteries in a haunted Heartland. TexArcanum #1 is available now from Dark Horse Comics. Question: Would you rather be an Occult Detective or Supernatural Monster Hunter? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Is this a funny found footage film, a scary one, or both? On this episode of Talking Strange, host Aaron Sagers is joined by director/co-writer Max Tzannes, co-writer Jacob Souza, and editor/cinematographer David San Miguel to discuss Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project — a meta mockumentary horror comedy produced by the Radio Silence team behind Scream, Abigail and Ready or Not — that blurs the line between behind-the-scenes chaos and real-life terror. Inspired by The Blair Witch Project, Spinal Tap, and American Movie, the film follows a group of ragtag indie filmmakers trying to make a Bigfoot movie... but something supernatural and sinister might actually be lurking in the woods. Produced by Tyler Friesen with Radio Silence (Scream, Scream VI), Found Footage is both a love letter and a hilarious jab at DIY horror and cryptid culture. We get into the real story behind the film, the Patterson-Gimlin influence, indie horror pitfalls, and whether this crew accidentally stumbled into a real found footage nightmare. But when the guests get stranded, a fresh murder spree begins, turning their weekend into a deadly reenactment with bloodier results than the original crime. Brancati (as washed-up scream queen Paige) and Watson (as academic Andy) discuss horror fandom, playing flawed characters, their favorite twisted kills, and what makes Hell Motel more than just another slasher. Plus, they reveal behind-the-scenes details from the set and tease the secrets that make this series a brutal, meta must-watch. Sean Byrne, acclaimed director of The Devil’s Candy and The Loved Ones, returns with Dangerous Animals — a nerve-shredding thriller that blends shark horror with serial killer dread. In this episode of Talking Strange, host Aaron Sagers dives deep with Byrne to discuss the psychological undercurrents of the film, the true nature of predators, and why Dangerous Animals flips the script on classic shark horror. Starring Jai Courtney, Hassie Harrison, and Josh Heuston, Dangerous Animals centers on Zephyr, a rebellious surfer abducted by a shark-obsessed killer who’s not feeding the sharks by accident. It's a chilling reminder that sometimes the most dangerous creatures walk on two legs. We talk about crafting dread on the open water, Byrne’s inspirations, and why this is not your average creature feature. Opening in theaters May 2, Rosario follows a Wall Street stockbroker, played by Toubia, who returns to her late grandmother’s apartment — only to uncover a terrifying secret. As she sorts through her grandmother’s belongings, Rosario stumbles across a hidden chamber filled with occult artifacts tied to dark generational rituals and supernatural forces rooted in real-world beliefs. A chilling and fun mix of Evil Dead and Drag Me to Hell, Rosario blends gooey practical monster effects with a heartfelt story about immigrant families, grief, and buried trauma. Aaron talks with Toubia and Vargas about crafting a new kind of horror film, representing cultural horror stories authentically, and why real rituals sometimes make the scariest monsters. _______________________________________________________________ The Talking Strange Show with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as experts in all things strange and unexplained. [This episode first ran on May 31, 2023.] Why do we like to be scared? What’s the difference in fear between a haunted house attraction and ghost hunters in a “real” haunted house? What is fearmongering, and the evolving fears of society? And what’s up with being afraid of clowns, aliens, Bigfoot, and even wide open spaces? Margee Kerr is a sociologist and author. She earned her PhD in 2009 from the University of Pittsburgh and currently teaches and conducts research on fear — specifically how and why people engage in 'scary' experiences like haunted attractions, horror movies, and paranormal investigations. She enjoys working as a consultant for attractions and museums and is the author of SCREAM: Chilling Adventures in the Science of Fear named as a must-read by The Washington Post. And author of Ouch! Why Pain Hurts and Why It Doesn’t Have To. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Parade, Atlantic Monthly, and NPR’s Science Friday. _______________________________________________________________ The Talking Strange Show with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as experts in all things strange and unexplained.
