This week I'm featuring "God's a Skeeball Fanatic" off Sorta Kinda's 2023 album Dogooder. It's a great album to drive to, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fun fact, the title comes from a late 90's classic film, giving it that extra layer of geekyness I love. Give them a listen. https://open.spotify.com/track/5n7a1hyCdLbEYGkr65rIVQ?si=6b9343c9c4ff4a49 Artist's LinksLinktree | Instagram | Bandcamp Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I met James of The Automatic Knives when we were both featured on Writers Round Fullerton. I love his grungey, gritty voice. The song I'm featuring, Long Way Down, is a soulful, rock n' roll earworm. It's also an interesting piece of L.A. history. https://open.spotify.com/track/6lua4xcGrW7HBSs0m5e5Pd?si=ee643331f60d412f Artist's LinksInstagram Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I came across Motelimbo thanks to Orange Peel, a publication for concertgoers, playlist connoisseurs, and music lovers. Something was intriguing about them right off the bat, they reminded me of so many great bands from my younger days. I went with "Tiki Bar Angel" for its awesome harmonica. Check them out! https://open.spotify.com/track/7xi8EONVKZ93TUJD8J141N?si=65c205725f9f4ee8 Artist's LinksInstagram | YouTube Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I try to check out every artist Greg features on Writers Round - Fullerton, that's how I came across Migstape. His music is mellow, with very relatable lyrics, sprinkled with beautifully diverse instrumentation. It reminded me of one of my favorites, Peter Su, featured in episode nine. I went with "Pizza Love" for this episode, be sure to check out all his tunes. https://open.spotify.com/track/5jrhJviTiHQqL3fgr9Gi3l?si=dbb942c4d74d46ba Artist's LinksWebsite | Instagram | YouTube Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
Mike over at Black N Gold Studio mentioned Hidden Tree used the space to shoot some live performances, I checked out their YouTube channel and came across Mark & the Gallery's. I went with "Cheese" because listeners know I love food-related songs. Give them a listen. https://open.spotify.com/track/2WmUzmResuF6mkPGKHvBMB?si=69ae23244fcc4fe9 Artist's LinksLinktree | Instagram | YouTube Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I came across The Oddity because they recently went on a mini Southern California tour with The Dancing Skeletons. I checked out their 2022 album Odd Man Out, and had difficulty choosing a song to feature because there are so many great ones. I went with "feelin'" because I related to the lyrics. Be sure to check out the entire album. https://open.spotify.com/track/61ezEL2r4DGRZngwg9rZcq?si=9332bf4bd12c4734 Artist's LinksWebsite | Instagram | YouTube Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I was featured on Greg Artavia's Writers Round Fullerton at Pour Co. a few weeks ago. I got to play with 110 Pod favorites Madima and Gericho, and met Feathers, James Anthony, and this week's artist Justin Richard. I'm featuring his song "500 Photo Albums" because listeners of the show know I love a song that tells a story, and Justin is a storyteller. https://open.spotify.com/track/0qIkQ8rFlVHtdOAQDIyOKj?si=b7ca61faf5d44e38 Artist's LinksWebsite | Instagram | YouTube Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
Listeners of the show know I love interesting names and it's a double whammy this week with "Lavender Ooze" by Mystic Fridge. They're from San Luis Obispo, so not local to LA, but a California band nonetheless. No clip this week, unfortunately, so I was left with many questions. https://open.spotify.com/track/4gF8yNouPSpb4X2JeouVZY?si=13ca48ff74674c23 Artist's LinksInstagram Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
089: Zen by Kilo Bravo

089: Zen by Kilo Bravo

I found Kilo Bravo thanks to their amazing drummer, Greg, who is also the drummer for No Application Fee—I've mentioned them once or twice before. They just released their sophomore album, Good Grief, which has warm and fuzzy post-grunge vibes. I went with the opener "Zen" be sure to listen to the full album, it's fantastic. https://open.spotify.com/track/6cJEKvNcgXfAhsqArZTAEY?si=c22e5d11ff8e4bb6 Artist's LinksWebsite | Instagram | Bandcamp Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I came across Jai-Tea at the Angry Mic open mic in Montebello. They rolled up with a full band—drums, and all, which is quite a feat as far as open mics go. I went with the track "The Rodowski Method" because it's one of the more polished ones on their Tea Break EP and has some pretty juicy lyrics. Now I need a follow-up album with the rest of the chisme. https://open.spotify.com/track/6gr8m1KwKipoYyX1SV1fgZ?si=e19e6612645b4cf0 Artist's LinksInstagram Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
087: For Me by POCHO

087: For Me by POCHO

POCHO played a gig recently with show-favorites No Application Fee at the Doll Hut in Anaheim, which is how I first became aware of them. Unfortunately, I could not make it, but after listening to their catalog I can't wait to see them live. I'm featuring "For Me", a fast-paced, punchy tune written for all of us who wish to escape the rat race if only for a while. https://open.spotify.com/track/1wrUaZtNBeNXj5BBkspDmf?si=05a5e4045ce44f18 Artist's LinksInstagram | Other Links Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
The Howling Faith was recommended by Blind Embers, who I'm pretty sure I ran into at the Angry Mic open mic, check it out if you're so inclined. I was struggling to find L.A.-based artists that fit the show's criteria. I really dug their 2016 self-titled album of which "Tumbleweed" is the closer. Give them a listen, they have a new single "Days and Days" out now. You won't be disappointed. https://open.spotify.com/track/0SdR6zWMRnKSPxcJH4Uml7?si=6b99af4947124032 Artist's LinksInstagram | Website | Linktree Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
Long-time listeners might remember Camping as the producer of Madima's "Name The Price", this week I'm featuring the track "Windows XP Screensaver (Live at Palms Up Academy)" featuring Sun Luu from the brand-new EP, Impending Bloom. It's a little different from the previous tracks I've shared, and it's a good one, enjoy! https://open.spotify.com/track/0gW0lIbGKLtsDan2UxymgV?si=11d1bbc51d3f4918 Artist's LinksCamping Instagram | Sung Luu Instagram | Website Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I came across Vincent Brue thanks to show-favorite Magenta Moon. I listened to all nine of his albums and knew immediately I'd go with "Has Anybody Seen My Jock Jams CD?" because I too am a person of culture. Be sure to check out his entire discography. https://open.spotify.com/track/2vsXjv5MVDdXEgOKoDPvKf?si=a5921eccf86049fc Artist's LinksInstagram | Bandcamp | YouTube Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
Long-time listeners know I love an interesting song title or artist name. Now they can add familiar song titles to that list. Is it a cover? If not, is it a similar idea? Totally different? What's their take? That's the case with this week's track "Cough Syrup" by LJane. Hope you like it. https://open.spotify.com/track/6egMuxwFU9kh5iBkUrBW5P?si=ac82f85556544e16 Artist's LinksInstagram Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I'm an oddball. If your band has an interesting name, I'm going to check it out, and it doesn't get much more interesting than Harry Katz and the Pistachios. I'm happy to report the music lives up to the hype. Check out their entire catalog, you won't be disappointed. https://open.spotify.com/track/6aiRwppif94U02aqJr4Rah?si=310f6f94dd7f499a Artist's LinksWebsite | Instagram | Bandcamp Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I came across “Dead Cold Woman” on Spotify with an assist from my Dad. He walked into the house as the song was playing and asked who it was, went to check, and discovered none other than The Blazing Suns. Be sure to check out their album Volume 1, it has a little bit of everything and will have you rocking out in the car and/or cleaning your casa. https://open.spotify.com/track/4LZ9NivRdAGmJgdCeIRZ4R?si=1b18e86fd1594223 Artist's LinksInstagram | Linkhub Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
Julez and the Rollerz come to us this week by way of Noel of Daisey Dell. Long-time listeners will recall he mentioned Julez sang on their track "Love In My Pockets" way back in episode 70. I'm featuring "Think About It" off their 2023 EP Is This Where The Party Is? Hope you dig their fem rock goodness. https://open.spotify.com/track/1S8kQIke2QEQzOTzBxoAeq?si=d096161f8a1e483b Artist's LinksWebsite | Instagram | Bandcamp | YouTube Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
Margot Sinclair came to me by way of the Spotify algorithm all the way from San Luis Obispo (say that three times fast). I'm sharing the track "Colorblind" off their 2023 EP Buenavista. Give them a listen. https://open.spotify.com/track/2uYiD0TLjlvOIxkyDO0Q3A?si=cbf09d65b5534d16 Artist's LinksInstagram | Website Contact Me: Deefur E.Y.P. x 110 Pod Playlist, updated weekly by Ed of Expand Your Playlist for your listening pleasure.
I'm going to cast a slightly larger net in 2024 and Slow Smoke is my first catch of the year. Their song "In My Car" doesn't fit my usual criteria of less than a thousand listens, but it's such a great song I couldn't keep it all to myself. Be sure to check out the entire album for some soothing tunes featuring beautiful violin.
