This week I'm featuring "God's a Skeeball Fanatic" off Sorta Kinda's 2023 album Dogooder. It's a great album to drive to, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fun fact, the title comes from a late 90's classic film, giving it that extra layer of geekyness I love. Give them a listen.

I met James of The Automatic Knives when we were both featured on Writers Round Fullerton. I love his grungey, gritty voice. The song I'm featuring, Long Way Down, is a soulful, rock n' roll earworm. It's also an interesting piece of L.A. history.

I came across Motelimbo thanks to Orange Peel, a publication for concertgoers, playlist connoisseurs, and music lovers. Something was intriguing about them right off the bat, they reminded me of so many great bands from my younger days. I went with "Tiki Bar Angel" for its awesome harmonica. Check them out!

I try to check out every artist Greg features on Writers Round - Fullerton, that's how I came across Migstape. His music is mellow, with very relatable lyrics, sprinkled with beautifully diverse instrumentation. It reminded me of one of my favorites, Peter Su, featured in episode nine. I went with "Pizza Love" for this episode, be sure to check out all his tunes.

I came across The Oddity because they recently went on a mini Southern California tour with The Dancing Skeletons. I checked out their 2022 album Odd Man Out, and had difficulty choosing a song to feature because there are so many great ones. I went with "feelin'" because I related to the lyrics. I found Kilo Bravo thanks to their amazing drummer, Greg, who is also the drummer for No Application Fee—I've mentioned them once or twice before. They just released their sophomore album, Good Grief, which has warm and fuzzy post-grunge vibes. I went with the opener "Zen" be sure to listen to the full album, it's fantastic.

I came across Jai-Tea at the Angry Mic open mic in Montebello. They rolled up with a full band—drums, and all, which is quite a feat as far as open mics go. I went with the track "The Rodowski Method" because it's one of the more polished ones on their Tea Break EP and has some pretty juicy lyrics. Now I need a follow-up album with the rest of the chisme.

POCHO played a gig recently with show-favorites No Application Fee at the Doll Hut in Anaheim, which is how I first became aware of them. Unfortunately, I could not make it, but after listening to their catalog I can't wait to see them live. I'm featuring "For Me", a fast-paced, punchy tune written for all of us who wish to escape the rat race if only for a while.

The Howling Faith was recommended by Blind Embers, who I'm pretty sure I ran into at the Angry Mic open mic, check it out if you're so inclined. I was struggling to find L.A.-based artists that fit the show's criteria. I really dug their 2016 self-titled album of which "Tumbleweed" is the closer. Give them a listen, they have a new single "Days and Days" out now. You won't be disappointed.

I'm going to cast a slightly larger net in 2024 and Slow Smoke is my first catch of the year. Their song "In My Car" doesn't fit my usual criteria of less than a thousand listens, but it's such a great song I couldn't keep it all to myself.
