In this episode we are joined by Steaven Morris, a prominent "hype lord" at the national wide (now international) running community known as MegaRun. Steaven shares his humble beginnings growing up in Stanthorpe experimenting with drugs and alcohol in his teenage years making a name for himself as the guy to party with amongst his peers, never thinking the path he was heading down would become a problem. He joined the army at 17 in an attempt to part ways from his party lifestyle only to rediscover it again once he turned 18. When he wasn't on base he was off in the city drinking, partying, spending all his money and blacking out. The cracks started to form after a mishap leading to waking up at the police station, crashing his new car while under the influence leading to losing his licence and being kicked out of the army, when his licence was reinstated it wasn't long before he lost it again being caught drink driving. He shares a night out misbehaving that finally was the wake up call he needed that enough was enough, and he hasn't looked back. He talks on his transitional phase, moving away from his drinking buddies and diving into learning to be comfortable on his own, embracing the gym, learning new skills, which to spiral into his new passion, running. Steaven talks running and finding his limit, which he has yet to discover, becoming a passionate member of a new community of high vibrant people who want to get up on their Sunday morning for a run instead of reaping their sorrows from the antics the night before. We appreciate Steaven for sharing his triumphant lifestyle change and his ambition and zest for life to keep pushing beyond his perceived limit. Quinn returns to the podcast to update us on his life since his original appearance last year (Episode #8 - "The Yo-Yo"). He talks about his recovery journey from injuring his achilles tendon which kept him on crutches, becoming unemployed and spiralling downwards into depression and using alcohol to cope. He decided to seek professional help and begin to get his life back on track, he talks on his use of antidepressants and how they helped get his mood back to a good base level. After a new years get together with some friends he set his goals for 2023, after one final "experiment" with a bottle of gin, the day was set to quit alcohol. He began a 12 week fitness challenge not long after, as a way to deter anyone questioning his desire to quit drinking alcohol. He pondered what would be different this time around for his plan to stay off alcohol for it to be successful, how he handled his cravings and triggers, and completing everything he set out to do for the year in a couple of months. Quinn has certainly come a long way since our last chat and it's great to see someone make positive improvements in their lives after cutting alcohol from their life. We thank Quinn for being so open and honest about his journey. Thank you Zekr Skin for sponsoring this video. In this episode we're joined by Jesse Calvillo, a content creator who makes comedic skits on social media often with his family. Jesse shares on his journey with addiction, being a self proclaimed "try everything at once" kind of guy which eventually spiralled down a path of heroin addiction. He openly shares on his escapades, from entering rehab and only learning it was better to shoot up heroin than smoke it, getting into trouble with the law to overdosing and crashing his mother's car on an abandoned highway, he was left with the choice of jail or entering a sobriety program. Whilst the program was challenging and incredibly strict, including spending several days in jail for failed drug tests, Jesse completed the 18 month program and stayed off heroin for good, despite it being in his words the best feeling he's ever experienced, with help and support getting involved in AA and completing the steps. He elaborates on his journey with sobriety, having a good level of conscious self awareness to keep an eye on his participating in taking substances is potentially a gateway back to the needle. Jesse and Will reflect on their past being creators on the original video app Vine, creating comedic content with his family contributing to a deeper bond with his brothers. He talks on his struggles with physical therapy and social anxiety and taking life one day at a time and being strong for yourself despite his physical limitations. We appreciate Jesse for coming on and sharing his journey so openly. Thank you Zekr Skin for sponsoring this video. In this episode we are joined by Faye Lawrence. Faye is a grey area drinking coach, psychotherapist and founder of Untoxicated, Australia's largest alcohol free social group. She shares her personal journey, stemming from an upbringing being exposed to alcohol and drugs, in which she was able to disconnect instantly from the internal struggles she was experiencing. While she could take it or leave it with drugs, she describes alcohol as her kryptonite. She describes a life of a high functioning addict, maintaining on the surface a well balanced life, working corporate jobs, studying psychology, raising children, all the while alcohol consumption was interlaced throughout, it ultimately lead to her internal world to crumble. She went into inpatient detox, an eye opening life changing experience where she was determined to never return to this place again, and has been alcohol free ever since. She shares being diagnosed with ADHD, we learn more about the disorder and how common it is found amongst people with substance abuse issues. She talks on Untoxicated, a social group she founded by her need and desire for connection. She wanted to bring fun back into socialising without alcohol. It's an engaging conversation with a lot of great useful information, we thank Faye for sharing her journey and her wisdom. Thank you Zekr Skin for sponsoring this video. In this episode we are joined by Bree Wilkinson, founder of Blanc Smiles, which specialises in cosmetic teeth whitening and tooth gems. Bree gets open about her crazy party stage and finding solace in being around people, but within every group of people she was around, drugs and alcohol were always prevalent. She talks about using drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism, to deal with the waves of life, from toxic relationships to dealing with stresses of running her own business, she became a soldier for 8 bottles of wine a day. While she managed to maintain a solid foundation of a life with a regimented morning routine, regular exercise and a dedicated work ethic, she was still funnelling a lot of her time, energy and money to the outlet of escape with drugs and alcohol, come the start of 2023 she was ready to change for the better. Bree talks on going sober for 2023, how it impacted her business and work productivity, her struggles with loneliness, deciding to travel solo and face all that she had been suppressing under her substance use. She shares openly on a slip up at a birthday party, but after reflecting on this this turned out to be a huge lesson and period of growth for her to see and cement within herself that it's time to leave the party life behind and move forward onto greater things! We thank Bree for being so open about her journey, we hope her story can inspire others to transform and grow for the better. Thank you Zekr Skin for sponsoring this video. In this episode we are joined by Natalie Paterson, a business ascension coach, founder of the Starseed Society. What is a Starseed? Tune in to find out! Natalie dives into her past, her journey with addiction, her channel of escape for her to suppress dealing with her underlying mental health issues which began after a traumatic 6 months of one tragedy after another in her personal life. She talks about using drugs and alcohol leading up to an ice addiction, being up for days sometimes over a week, not eating, dishevelled, disappearing from her family weeks at a time and spiralling into psychosis. While she was managing to run her own business during this period, the turbulent lifestyle came to fruition when a close friend confronted her on demeanour and she began the journey to kick the habit for good, but once the drug was out of the picture it lead her down the path of binge eating and developing an eating disorder which carried on until another close friend was able to showcase her behaviour was very visible and concerning. Natalie changed her environment, moving interstate, settling in with some new counterparts who introduced her to meditation, Hare Krishna and a vegan diet. She began to mourn and heal from her old identity to remodel herself into the vibrant confident energetic woman she is today, where she's now passionate in helping others experience and live a fulfilling life she's managed to form for herself. In this episode we are joined by business mentor Jessica Masion. Jessica talks on a past life she no longer recognises, immersing herself fully in the party lifestyle, roaming the bars and clubs in the city of Melbourne after high school, indulging in plenty of drinking and drug taking, it was the only life she saw that was possible for herself, she couldn't fathom a world beyond Cloud 9. She talks on her ex-partner, one who lost himself down the rabbit hole of substance abuse, this relationship would prove to provide her the wake up call she needed to begin the process to change her life, all while struggling to withdraw from the love she felt deeply for her ex-partner in spite of his choices. She talks about changing her environment several times, struggling to find like minded people who shared her desire to not drink or use drugs, leading to her eventually packing up her life and moving from Melbourne to Queensland for a fresh start. Jessica had to face her fears, the pain she was masking with drugs, alcohol and settling in a toxic relationship. She feared being on her own, doing things for herself in spite of what others may think of her, but facing these challenges and working through them, it has led her down to the path she's on today, sober and living a life she couldn't possibly have imagined for herself. She shares facing adversity from her peers to decide to stop drinking, being presented with anxiety and discomfort entering the social arena without being able to reach for some liquid courage. In her time away from drinking, she was able to reevaluate her relationship with alcohol through a sober lens. She used this time to explore herself doing inner work with using tools like meditation and morning affirmations. She shares on becoming more open to having deeper conversations, with a little push from her best friend, going beyond the surface level chats she was once only capable and comfortable with. In this episode we chat with Michael Short, one half of the social media sketch comedy duo The Terribly Irresponsible. Michael opens about his journey down the treacherous path of prescription medicine addiction, in his own words anything with an opioid he was all over like a rash. His addiction progressed to higher quantities more frequently as he built more tolerance to the pain killers, where his whole body felt like it was immersed in a bubble bath. Michael was highly driven and motivated by the power of his addiction to seek out fulfilling his cravings in any possible way, from doctor shopping leading to being blacklisted and banned from most doctors practices, to manipulating and pulling on the heart strings of those around them to supplying his next fix. After several overdoses and some trouble with the police, Michael decided he had to make a change before he ended up in jail or dead, but was so far down the rabbit hole of addiction he needed to seek professional help and assistance in a rehab clinic to come off the pain killers, but unfortunately he was prescribed Benzodiazepine and thus led him down another chapter of addiction, taking high levels of Valium and then Xanax. Michael shares his mental health struggles, experiencing bad episodes of anxiety, depression and panic attacks, he relied on the drugs to mask the episodes he didn't want to feel, until the drugs stopped working and the anxiety got more overwhelming lead him to quit cold turkey and suffer and struggle a long 9 month process of withdrawal where he thought he wouldn't make it out alive. Michael's story is an emotional one, confronting his past mistakes learning who he is without the drugs and wanting to make up for it through positive outlets and finding passion in creating gags on social media. We thank Michael for sharing his story, and commend his courage to be so open about his turbulent past. Thank you Zekr Skin for sponsoring this video. In this episode we are joined by Daniel Holmes, a Brisbane based personal trainer and former competitive bodybuilder who appeared on Season 9 of the Australian reality TV show "Married At First Sight". Daniel shares about his experience with his use of steroids, becoming addicted over the last 7 years which began when he noticed his peers making supernatural results in the gym, once he learned the secret of their success, he wanted in on it. Daniel built a social media following with heavy focus around his physique, which further incentivised the need to keep using, the struggle came when realising after attempting to come off steroids, the withdrawal process was just too much to handle so he continued to stay on them. It wasn't until appearing on Married At First Sight where he was forced to come off them having no access to the drugs while filming, he experienced the difficult withdrawal process, all while trying to build a relationship with a stranger you've just married on national television, that was enough for Daniel to never look back. Daniel shares about experiencing body dysmorphia, believing at one point bigger was better and being transparent of his struggle today finding a way to be comfortable with how he looks, he shares about undergoing a hair transplant which he sought out as hair loss was a side effect of his steroid use, which he has been open about on his platform which has helped other men to find the courage to seek out treatments to improve how they feel about themselves. Whilst Daniel doesn't have an issue with alcohol himself, he shares an understanding on how devastating alcohol addiction can be, growing up with an alcoholic father, he shares how it destroyed his family and made his upbringing chaotic. He shares what he learned from his experience on Married At First Sight, taking on the "villain" role and his takeaways from his boxing match with a fellow contestant. Daniel is being unapologetically himself and is confident in knowing who he is as a person, a true strength and we commend him for sharing his story and being open about what he's been through and hopes to start a conversation around steroid use in the fitness industry. In this episode I'm joined by Charlie Owen, who works in coaching people to find confidence and clarity within their lives. We chat to Charlie about how he used alcohol as a way to fit in with his peers and boost his confidence in social environments and engaging with women on dates. What he learned was he was drinking because he didn't like the sober version of himself so he decided to explore changing that. He then ventured down the route of self development, built himself up to a place to create a life he wanted on his terms, attract the right partner into his life and have no need to rely on alcohol to give him confidence he's desired. Charlie then shared what he learned from this on his social media, which gained traction and resonated with plenty of people which led him to help others achieve finding what direction and steps they need to take to living a life they are content and fulfilled with, primarily targeting young men struggling to make their mark in the world without succumbing to every flavour of distraction so readily available for them. She opens up about the affect alcohol has had on some prominent relationships in her life, from growing up with an alcoholic father to her children observing behavioural shift in adults after a few beverages in social settings. She's a mother first above all else, and after a few innocent observations from her children lead her to quit drinking alcohol, and when she puts her mind to something she does it. She discovered her truth, began exploring a healthy lifestyle in between raising her kids, and shares it all on her social media to inspire others to pursue healthy living habits for themselves, priding herself on preparing healthy delicious food to fuel her kids lives and being a vibrant outgoing person without needing to rely on any stimulant to hide behind. We thank Dani for being so open and commend her for sharing some difficult experiences from her life. Stay tuned till the end, it certainly takes the cake! In this episode we are joined by Trai. Trai shares his adventures being the aficionado of benders, partying and getting on it as much as possible, revolving around consistent drug and alcohol use. While he was able to maintain his gym routine with a full time career as a plumber, his drug use was intertwined throughout his day, leading to attempts to hide the extent of his addiction. From making rules with his drug taking (rules that were almost always broken) to taking several Valiums to "sober up" to dodge any suspicion. Trai talks about experiencing seizures twice from sleep deprivation and alcohol, paying people to come party with him so he didn't have to party alone and the negative effect his addiction had on some of the most important relationships in his life, whilst at the same time in other circles his drug taking was encouraged and sought after. Trai shares about meeting his current partner and how her positive influence on him began to lay the foundation for improving his life, but getting on it still lingered with him. It wasn't until seeing the future mother of his child react with distraught and despair at the aftermath of his car accident that Trai realised his drug taking was not just harming himself but those who cared and loved for him and it was time to turn his life around. Trai became a father for the first time, he shares how his little girl was the best thing to ever happen to him. He enlisted in the coaching services of Darcy Cogdale, managed to lose 20+ kilos in a year and says he's never felt or looked better, and now wants to inspire and help others feel how it feels today, better than any bender he went on. It was a whirlwind of a tale, we thank Trai for sharing his story. Thank you Zekr Skin for sponsoring this video. In this episode we chat with Chris Laidlaw, a tradesman and owner of multiple businesses. Chris shares his journey with drugs and alcohol, priding himself on being the one who can consume the most and party the best with over the years becoming a tool used to suppress difficult experiences throughout his life. From diving into the party scene in Sydney and going on benders as soon as he clocked off from his mining job, utilising loopholes to pass drug testing, Chris' life was a rollercoaster. After a few episodes with cause for concern including a car crash somewhere between Emerald and Rockhampton, Chris decided to begin the work to look inward and begin the journey with himself, getting to a place of unconditional love for himself, leading to gradually tapering off the desire to use drugs and alcohol for good and changing his trajectory for life. Chris opens up about his use of pornography, especially while being in a romantic relationship and how it can leave a negative impact, and gives advice on some solutions from what he has learned, but he doesn't want you to think he's an relationship expert! We thank Chris for being so open and sharing his story and was an insightful chat. Thank you Zekr Skin for sponsoring this video.
