As bow hunters, we are always eager for an opportunity to get out and shoot, refining our form – akin to a hitter stepping into the cage for some tee work. For some, it's as simple as heading into the backyard and shooting at a bag target. Others prefer 3D target courses. We often engage in both, especially when sighting in a new bow. The real question is: How beneficial can a 3D course be for hunters? Today, this topic comes from Jake Dalluge, who wants to explore whether a 3D archery course can provide hunters with a false sense of security. We delve into both the positive and negative aspects of 3D and how they can impact a hunter's mindset as they approach the hunting season. From shooting at long distances to bow setup, and even introducing a new hunter to the course, we share the knowledge gained from our experiences shooting 3D courses in the past. The goal is to provide you with an in-depth list of pros and cons.
There are those days in a hunter's life, where they wake up and get a feeling deep down. You start walking to you stand, and your hair stands up on end. The feeling that drives your mind and tells you that today is the day you kill your buck. Whether the wind is just right, the temperature is perfect, your stand is in the perfect spot, or you just begin to get that feeling that the hunt will go perfect. We call that feeling "hunter's" gut. For us it's a feeling of excitement but a feeling that doesn't happen often. However when it does, the rewards are wild! We want to see how many other hunters get "hunter's gut" and how successful they are with it. We also break down strategies for hunting your nocturnal bucks! ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!! We all love seeing our big bucks grow every year. We love seeing them on the hoof and on trail cameras during the season and in the summer. It's safe to say that a lot of deer hunters love to see an eight point buck. Now, there is some debate on whether or not that eight will always stay an eight point. This topic came to us in the comments, and we wanted to use our evidence to bust this myth. We discuss the debate of can eight point bucks become more than just an eight. but let us know what you guys think!
Lets face it, every hunter is always out chasing the biggest buck they can during hunting season. You spend all summer scouting, and checking trail cameras. You have your stands set and you are ready to rock. When that first cold front of the year comes in and rut is in full swing, it is game on! What happens when you don't see him as often, or see hardly any bucks for that matter, or any buck you do see already has a doe? What happens when all you see is does? Doe numbers have been incredibly high, and that can cause massive problems to your herd health. We broke down some questions sent in on doe management, and where a good number for buck to doe ratio should be. Every area is different , but still make sure you are getting doe tags and helping out your herd health!
Hunting is world of repetition, patience, and time. It is countless hours of preparation, that can be narrowed down to three months, to even just a matter of seconds. Within the amount of time we take for hunting and the successes we have, we can still make mistakes. Everyone can make a mistake that can prove to be crucial to harvesting your target buck. We wanted to tackle some of the major mistakes that we have all made, and even some minor ones we don't think about. From not shooting your bow enough and checking your equipment, to even cutting corners on how you enter the woods, everything can add up to losing valuable time on your buck. We want to hear from you guys if there were any errors we missed, or ones you have made that no one may consider. HOT DEALS: We know that everyone loves to start gearing up for hunting season! As we inch closer and closer to deer season, we are checking cameras more, looking for velvet slobs, and checking for sign on properties. Most of the time while checking for sign, we are looking up. We are picturing where to put our tree stands to give us the best shot on that big buck. So that leaves the question, what are we looking for in the "perfect" tree to hang a stand in? We break this down from the angle of having both experiences hunting in stands and saddle sits, to give you guys the best knowledge we can. From checking thermals, to knowing how much cover you'll have during the rut, we wanted to cover as many scenarios as we can. Whether you want to be 12 feet up or 40 feet, always check your wind! Let us know what your ideal tree stand setup is!
When you are hunting, the moments after you shoot can become the most nerve racking. For a lot of hunters, we tend to have a "blackout" moment when we pull the trigger, loosing sight of where we hit the animal. That question of "did I make a good shot", starts running circles in your mind. It is a cycle that many, if not all hunters go through. You can make a bad shot, and back out. You could make the perfect shot and the animal is laying only a few yards away. Then, there are those days you do make a perfect shot, but the animal still wants to give you a run for your money. Don't worry, you guys are not alone, we have dealt with all of these scenarios. In this episode, we wanted to break down a few of our shots for you guys, and the scenarios they put us in. From getting a second shot on a monster buck, to making a perfect shot and having to track the deer, to shot placement on your bucks, we cover as much information as we can, to bring you guys the best success possible!
Am I Hunting Too Hard?

Am I Hunting Too Hard?

2024-02-2149:14

As hunters, we've all asked ourselves this question at some point: am I hunting too hard? Conversely, we may wonder, am I not hunting hard enough? Whether it's chasing a target buck, embarking on an out-of-state hunting trip, or simply searching for a massive shed, there's a fine balance between pushing oneself and avoiding burnout. This topic was sparked by a discussion between David and Warren while they sat in on the Eastmans' boys' podcast at the Western Hunting Expo. We share personal scenarios to evaluate whether we've been hunting too hard at certain times or if we haven't been pushing ourselves enough. GIVEAWAY ALERT! We're excited to announce another giveaway that could enhance your hunting experience! Raised Hunting is giving away our first-ever set of Raised Lighted Knocks! To enter for a chance to win, simply leave us a review! Good luck to everyone who participates, and stay tuned—we'll announce when these are officially available on our website!
In the hunting world, it has been taught that deer urine is the true deer lure. It has been around for decades, and has always been "trusted" to bring in your big bucks. However, the inconsistent success with deer urine makes using it seem like a waste of time. Like we have done before, we wanted to give you guys another break down on how glandular scents work. With deer season inching closer, we are looking to get an inventory of what bucks are moving into the area. With our glandular scents we have been seeing more of our bucks hitting scrapes and rub trees on our cameras then we did seasons ago. We wanted to answer many of the questions you guys have on what scents of ours to use this time of year, and what glandular scents truly mean. We want you guys to keep asking your questions, and share your photos of your Raised Scents bucks!
Deer management on your land can be a tall task. You have a various amount of challenges to face when trying to grow your deer score and population. You may have neighbors, an over population of deer, you may not have a way to hold your deer, or you lease or hunt your ground with friends.. The possibilities are endless. Let's say you are looking to manage your herd, but are growing in hunting and aspiring to go to the next level, you want to harvest for age over score. Well that is what we are discussing today. Warren brought up this topic to spark the conversation from a podcast he was a guest on. Would you shoot a three year old that scores 180, if it is your biggest deer to date, or would you pass him to help your management. We want to know what you guys think
In today's day and age, hunting land can be hard to come by. Is it still possible to get permission, absolutely. However, land in certain states can fly off the counter with hunters from other states leasing out the best chunks. Some pieces were ones you couldn't hunt , and others you had the permission, but were bought out from under you. For those that hunt next to these leases, it can be a challenge to hunt the deer in your area. So what can you do to help your odds on hunting the fringes of those leases? Well that is what we wanted to answer for you guys. Our topic comes from one of our listeners, Jake, in Kansas. He wanted us to break down our opinions on leasing ground, but also what is the best way to hunt the edges of those leases in your area. For those of you looking for another fiery debate, we got one for you today. GIVEAWAY: We wanted to show all you loyal listeners our support for the reviews by doing a give away with this episode! To enter, all you guys need to do is leave a review, and two lucky winners will be selected and win a Raised Hunting Hat!
We have all been hunting in the woods and heard the sound of a doe throwing a fit, blowing her head off, and stomping her feet. It is one of the most annoying sounds to a hunter. She has caught your wind and you got busted big time. Your buddies back at breakfast may tell you that you needed better scent control. You tell them, your clothes were scent free, you sprayed before you walked in the woods, and you had an ozone distributor, and she still winded you. As hunters there are countless times that many have experienced this same outcome. So we wanted to debate one of the biggest topics in the hunting world, the effectiveness of scent control. We sat down with three different opinions and 1 CIA study to see just how much scent control can actually play a factor in the woods. We want to here from you guys, does scent control matter in the woods? Study Link: https://www.cia.gov/static/6e7d5b61074cbce8462cd16b73028006/Human-Scent-and-Detection.pdf
As you all know by listening to this podcast, we love to cover the controversial topics of the hunting world. This topic could start brawls in just about every hunting lodge you go to. Today we wanted to sit down and discuss why we believe crossbows should not be allowed during the archery deer season. Since 1934, when hunters were granted with the first archery deer season, traditional bows have seen a counter part of their own, the compound bow. With the crossbow gaining more legality to be used during the entire deer season in states across the U.S., we wanted to give our opinions on the subject and answer one major question along the way. Does a crossbow count as archery equipment?
Those who have hunted long enough would love to get inside the mind a of a deer. We want to learn their patterns, their behaviors, habits, the whole nine yards to be able to put ourselves in the tree above them. You spend countless hours in the woods just to learn them a little bit at a time. Well now it seems that hunters may have gotten a small hint of how to understand these whitetails. A recent study released by the Penn State College of Agricultural Science, may have found a few solutions too our questions. The Deer - Forest Study consisted of collaring and tracking just over 1,100 whitetail deer over 10 years. The study tracked statistics of deer movement, home ranges, growth, and much more, to provide Pennsylvania hunters with knowledge on their deer. We wanted to break down this study and compare our own whitetail behavioral theories to the results. We want to know what you guys think of some of these results and how your theories match or differ to them as well. We have provided the link to the study below for you all to check it out yourselves! Link To Study: https://www.deer.psu.edu/wp-content/uploads/Deer-Forest_Study_WEB_feb01.pdf
If you have hunted long enough, then you know there are major differences in hunting different states. Hunters all across the country are hunting different subspecies of turkeys, elk, and whitetails. Each hunter faces different challenges when hunting their areas, whether that is the caliber of the animal, the terrain, or in most cases, the quantity of animals to hunt or even land to hunt. Our good buddy Eddie Diaz, from New Jersey, joins on the podcast today. We wanted to break down the major differences in whitetail hunting the Northeastern states to those in the midwest. From land availability, to breaking down the caliber of deer we all hunt, we wanted to still show that no matter your challenges, you can still have success in the areas you hunt.
Bucket list hunts can be hard to come across. When that opportunity arises, it can make the wait worth your while. Easton was able to cross one bucket list hunt off this past month, going to Idaho for a spot and stalk bear hunt. The five day hunt in the high country with his guide from Wind River Outfitters, proved to be incredibly tough but great experience. From rocky terrain, to switching to his back up bow, the hunt proved to show just how tough western hunting can really be. Easton breaks down his whole experience and give us his excitement about going on the high country hunt again!

When it comes to the idea of booking new hunts, it can be very exciting. The hunt may be one on your bucket list, it may be a hunt for you and your friends, or you may be looking for a new species. However, the logistics that go into planning a Western hunt can pose a huge barrier! The most difficult part can be simply getting started. Like many new hunters, or hunters looking to experience a new species in a new state, the process to get to the fun part is a challenge. We sit down on this episode to help hunters better understand what goes into the license system specifically in Western states. From the difference between preference points and bonus points to draw odds and OTC. We cover a wide array of information in this episode that hopefully helps you figure out where to start when it comes to planning an out of state hunt!
April has come and gone. For a lot of states, we are in the last ditch effort to try and get one more turkey tagged filled. Toms are going quiet, hens are going to nest, and the hunting is getting much harder. So what can be some of the best ways to get on these pesky late season gobblers? Well we wanted to help with that! We employed two more late season strategies over the weekend, that proved to be pretty lethal in downing two more birds for the Raised Hunting crew. For some birds and areas, it may just be as simple as carrying multiple calls. For others, it may be scouting as much as you can for those birds that haven't been touched or are still fired up. We cover as much as we can to bring you guys success in your last days of your turkey seasons!
