Welcome to the Bowl of Rice and the Bible  podcast. In this episode, we're talking about the plagues of Egypt, one of the most famous stories in the Bible. But why are the plagues of Egypt important? What can we learn from them today?Three Important PointsThe plagues of Egypt show us that God is sovereign. He is in control of everything, even the forces of nature. Pharaoh was one of the most powerful men in the world, but he was no match for God.The plagues of Egypt show us that God is just. He will punish those who rebel against Him. Pharaoh refused to let God's people go, even after God sent him warning after warning. In the end, Pharaoh paid the price for his disobedience. The plagues of Egypt show us that God is merciful. Even though Pharaoh hardened his heart against God, God still gave him the opportunity to repent. But Pharaoh refused to repent, and so he was judged.
In this episode, we're going to be talking about the story of Cain and Abel from the book of Genesis. This story is a warning against jealousy and anger, and it shows the consequences of these sins.Three Important Points:Cain and Abel were both the sons of Adam and Eve, but their offerings to God were very different. Cain's offering was of the fruits of the ground, while Abel's offering was the firstborn of his flock. God accepted Abel's offering, but He did not accept Cain's offering.Cain was angry and jealous because God accepted Abel's offering and not his. He allowed his anger to control him, and he murdered his brother Abel.God punished Cain for his sin. He banished Cain from the land of Eden and placed a mark on him so that no one would kill him.Call to Action:This story is a warning to us all. We should not allow jealousy and anger to control us. If we do, we could commit sin, just like Cain did. If you are struggling with jealousy or anger, I encourage you to pray to God for help. He can help you to overcome these sins and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
In this episode, we're going to be talking about a story from the book of Acts where Peter has a vision from God that leads him to go to the house of a Gentile named Cornelius. This was a significant moment in the early church because it showed that God was not just interested in saving Jews, but also Gentiles.Three Important Points:Peter had a vision from God in which he saw a sheet filled with all kinds of animals, both clean and unclean according to Jewish law. God told Peter to kill and eat the animals, but Peter refused because they were unclean.God repeated the vision three times, and each time Peter refused to obey. Finally, God told Peter that he should not call anything unclean that God had made clean.Peter went to Cornelius's house and preached the gospel to him. While Peter was preaching, the Holy Spirit fell on Cornelius and his household. This was the first time that Gentiles had received the Holy Spirit. This story is a reminder that God is not partial. He loves all people, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or nationality. If you're not a Christian, I encourage you to pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you. He is waiting to welcome you into His family.
After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, he was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil for forty days. The devil tempted Jesus in three ways:He tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread to satisfy his hunger. He offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if Jesus would worship him.He challenged Jesus to jump off the highest point of the Temple and trust that God would protect him. Each time, Jesus resisted the devil's temptation by quoting Scripture. He told the devil that man cannot live on bread alone, that he should worship only God, and that he should not put God to the test.Three Important Points:The devil is real and he is a powerful force. The only way to defeat the devil is with the Word of God.Jesus is our example of how to resist temptation. If you are struggling with temptation, we encourage you to:Read the Bible regularly.Pray for strength and guidance.Find a Christian friend or mentor who can help you.
In this episode, we're going to be talking about the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 17:1-6. This is a story about how God provided for Elijah during a time of drought. We'll start by talking about the context of the story. Elijah was a prophet who lived in Israel during the time of King Ahab. Ahab was a wicked king who led the people of Israel into idolatry. Elijah was sent by God to pronounce judgment on Ahab and the people of Israel. As part of his judgment, Elijah prayed that there would be no rain for several years. And God answered his prayer. The land became dry and barren, and the people were suffering. But God didn't abandon Elijah. He provided for Elijah in a miraculous way. He sent ravens to bring Elijah bread and meat every day. And he caused a brook to flow near Elijah so that he could have water to drink. This story is a reminder that God is always faithful to his people. Even when we're going through difficult times, God will provide for us.

We also talk about how the Last Supper is a symbol of our connection to Jesus and to each other. Here are some of the key takeaways from the episode:The Last Supper was more than just a meal; it was also a Passover meal, which had special significance for the Jews.During the Last Supper, Jesus told His disciples that one of them would betray Him. This was a shocking revelation, and the disciples were understandably upset.Jesus then took bread and wine and gave them to His disciples, saying that they represented His body and blood. This was the institution of the Lord's Supper, which is a reminder of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. The Last Supper is also a symbol of our connection to Jesus and to each other. He sent them manna, a bread-like substance that fell from heaven, and quail, a type of bird. The Israelites could eat and survive in the wilderness thanks to God's provision. The Israelites' experience in the wilderness teaches us a valuable lesson about trusting in God. When we are faced with challenges, we should remember that God is always with us and He will provide for us. We should also be humble and rely on God for our daily needs.Jesus is the ultimate manna. He is the bread of life, and He provides us with everything we need to live a fulfilling life. He is the ultimate source of hope and encouragement, and He can help us to overcome any challenge we face.Listen to the podcast today to learn more about how God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness, how Jesus is the ultimate manna, and how you can apply those lessons to your own life.
In this episode, we explore the story of Jacob and Esau, the twin sons of Isaac and Rebekah. Esau was the firstborn, but Jacob was the one who received the birthright. This led to conflict between the two brothers, and eventually to Esau selling his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of stew. When Isaac was old and blind, he gave Jacob a blessing that was meant for Esau. This further angered Esau, and he threatened to kill Jacob. Jacob was forced to flee for his life, and he spent the next 20 years in exile. This story teaches us about the importance of birthright, the dangers of betrayal, and the power of reconciliation. It is a story that is still relevant today, and it can help us to understand our own relationships with our siblings. As Christ believers, we have a birthright that is far greater than anything Jacob or Esau could have ever imagined. In Ephesians 1:3-7, we are told that we have been "blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ." This includes things like adoption into God's family, redemption, forgiveness, and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Our birthright as Christ believers is a precious gift, and we should never take it for granted. We should be grateful for all that God has done for us, and we should live our lives in a way that honors Him.
