Winter Solstice is the time of year to go within. How have your dreams been nudging you into a new alignment?  Today is a rare all call-in show! No guest, just YOU.  We host six dreamers on the show today starting with Sylvia from Ontario who describes a dream where a crow climbs into bed with her, comforting her. Then Steve shares about the latest in his evolution of journeying dreams where he has gotten to the ocean and is trying to go deeper, but the waves keep pushing him back. We take a call from Chris from Felton who shares a dream  in which two beautiful fish are thriving in a mucky, disgusting pond. And then we get a call from local poet Jenny D’Angelo in which she meets a man who to her was like a mythic image of wholeness. After the break, we take a call from Lisa from Pleasanton who shares a dream of laughter with a man on a train who helped her look through the wallpaper. We take our final dream from Kathy from Corona who called us on her birthday to tell us her dream of an old handle-less basket that exploded with butterflies, leaving her with a feeling of exultation and delight. Happy birthday, Kathy! May your holidays be cozy and your new years healthy. Thanks for being a Dream Journal listener! Are you a narcissist? How would you know? Or maybe you are in a relationship with one. We talk to Jungian analyst Dr Susan Schwartz about dreams related to narcissism and about how to be in relationship with those everyday narcissists in our life. Dr Schwartz starts by defining narcissism as outer bravado and inner fragility. She lists some of the typical dreams narcissists have including dreams of being trapped or in a prison. We talk about the myth of Narcissus and Echo and about how we can avoid becoming Echo who loses herself in the relationship. After the break we take a question from Steve about dreams in which we are not ourselves. Max adds that he is sometimes not even human in his dreams. Susan ends by sharing a client’s dream in which the dreamer was married to Putin. BIO: Susan E. Schwartz, Ph.D. trained in Zurich, Switzerland as a Jungian analyst. She has appeared on over a hundred podcasts and presentations and written many articles, chapters and books on Jungian analytical psychology. Animals in dreams always seem to have a special meaningfulness. Today we talk about how dreams of certain animals were viewed at the Asklepian Temple in ancient Greece where people could go to be healed by their dreams. Learn about a modern interpretation of this ancient technique from our guest psychotherapist, mindfulness teacher, and Dream Boat podcast host Laura Payne of the Dream Research Institute in London. A short clip from the show can be found here: After the break we hear from Steve Popp from Santa Cruz with a dream about a series of animals beginning with a moose and ending with a talking lynx. Then we take a question from Max who asks about not just seeing dogs in dreams but being a dog. Finally we take a call from Kathy from Corona for a quick check in. Information about her October Asklepian Dream Retreat in Greece will be up on her webpage in January. From our guest: My name is Laura Payne, and I’m an avid dream lover. I’m a clinical depth psychotherapist, supervisor and lecturer, a mindfulness teacher, and associate of the Dream Research Institute for Studies based in London, England. I present the DreamBoat Podcast for the DRI now in its 7 series, and I’m author of Nine Steps to a Mindful Life without Meditating. One from Kathy from Corona CA who is wondering about how best to introduce new members into her long-running group. The second call is from Ryan from Maryland who asks whether the prisoners at Auschwitz ever had revenge dreams. BIO. There are many ways to open the door to the unseen world: sound or singing, stillness,  or movement, nature immersion. We speak to Rachel Schafer about dreaming into love. After the break, we take a call from Kathy from Corona, CA, who talks about her long-running dream group, speaks about how valuable it has been, and issues an open invitation for people to apply to join them. Rachel ends by telling about her offerings including Dream Dancing on Friday evenings and a nine-month program for women. Contact Rachel for more information. Aging through the lens of night dreams, living dreams, and earth dreams. Dr. Illana Berger guides seekers through life’s initiations through Zen practice, Indigenous wisdom, dreams, and soul-centered transformation. Dr Berger starts out by speaking about koans and how dreams are like them: things to ponder not riddles to solve. We talk about the art of becoming present and how this is true enlightenment. We then shift to talking about the difference between elderhood and simply being old and how we can learn to turn toward our lives with curiosity. VIDEO short: https://youtu.be/3MtXWOAj6qc?si=qeIWrzeTGbHbJxfs After the break we talk about Earth dreams and then take a call from Elizabeth from Bellingham who tells us a dream about leading a group of women in a spiritual practice. Dreams are crazy, but aren’t they also guidance? Our guest, Sandi Madison, helps us find sense in the nonsense of our dreams and argues that the best self-help book we can ever read is our own dream journal! We talk about the importance of keeping and reviewing a dream journal, and Sandi shares some of her recurring themes that show how she has matured over the 38 years she has been journaling. Sandi suggests we try to remember dreams as we wake up by focusing on the feelings we have when we wake up. We also talk about precognitive dreams and the power of snippets. After the break, we talk to Carrie Voorhees who is one of the artists whose work is featured in Sandi’s book, “Diving Before Dawn.” FULL LENGTH VIDEO! Behind the scenes action. Every night our dreams invite us to enter the mystery that is our soul, and they guide us toward wholeness, purpose, and destiny. Today we talk with Sara Saidy about the power of dream groups which she describes as alchemical containers. She calls dreams love letters from the soul. Sara starts out by defining the imaginal realm and how we access it through dreaming or active imagination. She shares the results of her research showing that dream groups can provide places where people experience not just personal transformation, but also interconnectedness, enhanced empathy, and compassion. She gives some radical suggestions for how to deepen our own dream groups. After the break, we take a call from Sylvia from Ontario who asks about and describes her own experiences of using dreams for physical healing. We take a second call from Martha from Los Angeles who asks about working with recurring dream images. We end with a discussion of how a Jungian approach to dream exploration changes our focus from the plotlines of dreams to the images and characters themselves. BIO: A Jungian dream practitioner, writer, artist, and researcher specializing in transpersonal dream studies. She uses, Art, and Transpersonal Psychology to explore dreams’ transformative potential. Currently training as a Jungian Analyst, she offers global consultations, workshops, and dream groups to help individuals and groups engage meaningfully with the imaginal realm through dreamwork. AI dream interpretation platforms are getting ever more popular. We talk today with Harry de Bont, the developer of AUT-Dream, about how best to approach these tools and why his platform is an improvement over Chat GPT. We talk about what he calls the Anthropic Universe Theory (AUT) and argues that the primary purpose of dreams is to comment on what surprises us and then to help us shift our world model to something closer to reality. We also talk about how AI relates to an emerging collective awareness, and he shares some of his hopes for future ways AI might be used to catalyze community. We take two questions from Max. He asks about how AI works which leads into a discussion of pattern recognition and the inevitable biases of AI based on the cultural profile of the data entered into it. Harry ends by encouraging us to try AI dream interpretation but cautions us to always stick up for our intuition when working with our dreams. BIO: Harry de Bont is an Electrical engineer and dream researcher who bridges psychology, physics, and consciousness studies. He developed the Anthropic Universe Theory describing dreaming as the mind’s nightly realignment between body, world, and society. His work explores how emotion and intuition arise from the same patterns of balance that shape both the landscape of our dreams and the physical world. Today’s guest composes music to his patient’s dreams, capturing feelings and moods and deepening the psychotherapeutic process. In this replay from two years ago, we meet Dr. Michael Mollura who is a PhD licensed clinical psychologist and also an award-winning music composer for TV and movies. Michael started by scoring music to his own dreams and later found out how valuable the practice was in deepening the healing for his psychotherapy clients. We play a clip of one such piece called Scary Path Dream. Michael describes the process of scoring the piece including using cello to represent the waving branches of the trees. He also describes the effect that listening to this creation had on his client in deepening her process and even bringing up waking life memories that she had forgotten. We take a call from Steven Ernenwein who describes his own experience scoring music for the dreams of guests on his podcast The Dreams that Shape Us. BIO: Dr. Michael Mollura is a licensed clinical psychologist with a PhD from Pacifica Graduate Institute and a Master’s Degree in Performance Studies from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He composes music to the dream reports of his psychotherapy clients as a way of accessing unconscious material to provide healing pathways on neurological and collective levels. H e has found this to be an innovative way to promote healing and well-being for his clients. The therapy draws a bridge between Dr. Mollura’s work as a professional award-winning music composer and as a clinician. Our guest has hosted hundreds of patients on ketamine-assisted psychedelic trips and has gone on a few of his own, yet his experience is that dreamwork can be even more profound. In this show, a replay of a popular show from August 2024 Katherine talks to Dr. Darren Jakubec, an emergency-room anesthetist who runs a pain clinic in northern British Columbia. Jake talks about his history with dreaming and inner work and then gives an example of working a dream with a pain clinic patient. He describes his experience with a ketamine clinic which he ran for several years, describing psychedelics as an inner work accelerant which uses much of the same language as dreaming. After the break we take a dream share from Steve Popp, co-host of the “In the Garden” program which precedes the Dream Journal on Saturday mornings on KSQD. The dream features powerful spiritual themes which leads us into Jake giving his analogy about psychedelics vs dreaming which he summarizes as fire hose vs garden hose. We take a second dream from Elizabeth from Bellingham WA of a chaotic car trip with a problematic loved one. Books mentioned during the show: The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan, and various work by Gabor Mate. He also mentions the Curable app for dealing with chronic pain. BIO: Darren Jakubec, M.D., is trained in family medicine and in anesthesia and lives and practices in northern British Columbia. Darren has been a dreamworker for 12 years and practices dreamwork in his pain clinic, in his ketamine clinic, in the emergency room, and in the hallways and rooms of the hospital where he works. Can dreaming help us integrate psychedelic experiences? How dreams and visions can both take us to the boundaries of consciousness. Today’s guest Adam Miezio talks about how dreams and psychedelics both access the unconscious and that taking powerful psychedelics can be like tilling the soil of consciousness. He describes what he calls divine influx or a cosmic download in which we have insights that seem to be from outside of ourselves and about the pros and cons of setting intentions. Also the hypnagogic state, mysticism, and the collective unconscious. After the break, we take a question from Max about the difference between the subconscious and the unconscious, and we talk about John Lilly who used LSD to communicate with dolphins in the 1970s and developed sensory isolation tanks. We end with Katherine sharing some of her experiences of being high in dreams and Adam recommends the movie Waking Life. Global Psychedelic Week will be an online conference November 3-9. BIO: Adam Miezio is a writer in the psychedelics field, thanks to lifelong psychedelic journeying and plant medicine work. Born in Chicago, he received his master’s degree from Northeastern Illinois University..
