Gene Deckerhoff reflects on how he got into his career as a junior college basketball player, how he got into broadcasting, how he made the jump to becoming the FSU basketball radio voice in 1974 and then adding football play-by-play responsibilities in 1979. Deckerhoff takes a trip down memory lane with Osceola publisher Jerry Kutz as they describe his journey around the state before making Tallahassee his home where he and his wife, Ann, would raise their family. The 76-year-old Deckerhoff will broadcast one more game, FSU’s spring football game on April 9, and then plans to take some time off before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season begins.
