Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re well very well. We have another rescued episode and one that I genuinely thought had been lost forever. This is episode sixty four and features Katie and Thom from the now chart topping band The Lottery Winners. We had a chat in York whilst they were on tour with the also chart topping Frank Turner. Before speaking to Kate and Thom, I kept hearing about The Lottery Winners as they just seemed to be constantly supporting a huge range of bands which in itself isn’t unusual for a band that loves playing live and will take every opportunity to get in-front of new crowds but the fact that all of these bands raved about how great they were made me take more notice. Then after checking out the tour diary from their dates with Tom Jones as well as the video for Start Again, featuring Frank, I was pretty hooked and then there was the Knickelback Rockstar sea shanty. At that point they joined the list of hopeful future guests. All I can say is they did not disappoint, I enjoy all of these chats but I don’t think I’ve laughed as much in a recording as I did in this so I apologise but it was loads of fun and The Lottery Winners are an absolute force live. As many of you who bought the Anxiety Replacement Therapy album confirmed, they write great songs but it is out in the wild where they really come to life and I strongly recommend getting to a show.We chatted about their influences and the albums and artists that inspired them and Thom’s desire to be Freddie Mercury which, from their social media it seems he’s dug out his childhood costume. This was a pleasure to record and I hope you enjoy listening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMV-4zrdSl4 - Start Again (featuring Frank Turner) https://www.thelotterywinners.co.uk/ Hosted on Acast. Hello people! Welcome to the when in Yorkshire podcast I hope you’re all well. This is episode 63 and another episode that has rescued from the digital abyss where is was being held captive for the past 12 months and I’m very excited to finally release it. This episode features guitarist Will McGonagle of Symposium and Hell Is For Heroes. Before I get into this episode I will shout out that Hell Is For Heroes are about to go out on tour hitting Bristol Fleece 3rd AprilGlasgow Garage 4th AprilManchester Academy 5th AprilLondon Electric Ballroom 6th April There are limited tickets still left for most dates so got on your internets and buy em. As a bonus treat, previous guest Tom Campbell will be working his light based magic and make them look awesome too.Whilst all the guests I have on here are people I think have interesting stories and I’m generally a fan of their work, every now and then I’m lucky enough to spend time with someone whose work has had a significant impact on me and this is absolutely one of these times. I enjoyed Symposium when they were first around and have certainly developed a greater appreciation for what a force they were, especially live but Hell Is For Heroes had a huge influence on me as a musician and were / still are one of my favourite bands to see live. I’m please to report that based on spending an hour with him, Will is a fricking delightful person and I would go for a curry with him. The list of gigs he attended back in the early to mid 90’s is amazing and was great hearing about his experiences with record labels as well as many other stories. Enjoy. Hosted on Acast. Hello people, welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast I hope you’re all well. Now that the episodes have been recovered there’s going to be a whole load that were recorded a while back and this is a great way to kick them off. Episode sixty two featuring the Andy - current bass master with raging speedhorne, previously rocking guitar with Freeze the Atlantic and of course bassist in Hundred Reasons. This was recorded a year ago as Hundred Reasons were on tour with Hell Is For Heroes and My Vitriol prior to the release of Glorious Sunset which has just turned 1! I spent a large amount of the 00’s listening to and going to see Hundred Reasons and covering some of their tracks - in fact the same is applicable for the other bands on that tour. For me they were a big influence in terms of the music I was writing and whilst their debut Ideas Above Our Station was a standout album, I really loved everything they released - so I was a little hesitant (albeit quite excited too) when I heard they were releasing new music but from the listen of the first single and title track, Glorious Sunset, I was absolutely hooked again. If you haven’t heard the album all the way through, or in fact if you haven’t listened to it all this year, please do. It’s genuinely great and has back on rotation for me throughout February. Andy was delightful to chat to and despite having to keep the volume down due to a sleep driver below us on their bus, we covered a whole range of topics and it was great to hear about his introduction to music as well as how the latest album came to be. Before we get into this episode, if you’re also wanting a real in depth series of interviews about Hundred Reasons featuring all members of the band - I can highly recommend Live Fast, Die Ugly: The Hundred Reasons Podcast and I’ve put a link in the description of this episode. https://open.spotify.com/episode/6TLTnFK9SSdH7PuK4W5ha0?si=sT-MlIaCS7WTVL2UcuSKxghttps://www.hundredreasons.comhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somewhere_in_Time_(Iron_Maiden_album) Hosted on Acast. Hello people welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast how are you I hope you’re all well. We are back and have a really fun episode to share. This is episode 61 and features GK and Hannah from the predominantly Yorkshire based band Venus Grrrls. We caught up at the delightful Brudenell Social Club in Leeds a few days before their first headline gig there - which if you’re listening at any point before 8pm on Saturday 10th February 2024, you can still get along to. Venus Grrrls have been on my list to chat to for a while but due to a global pandemic and GK’s leukaemia diagnosis either of which could have been the end of the band, we have only just been able to make this happen. We discuss both GK and Hannah’s history with music how the band came to be and unlock the secret to building and maintaining a loyal fan base. I had a great chatting to these two and I hope you enjoy listening. They are setting 2024 up to be a busy year with support dates with The Sprints and festival slots already in the calendar so keep a look out. Links to all their social media and YouTube channels are in the description of this episode, I strongly recommend you check them out along with their latest track Divine, which has been described as a lusty grunge storm of a single and already getting support from Radio 1, radio x and 6 music amongst other. It’s absolute treat. Divine: VENUS GRRRLS - Divine (Official Video)https://www.facebook.com/VENUSGRRRLS@venusgrrrls Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Hello people, welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re well. This is episode sixty and features Tracey Wise, the founder of Safe Gigs For Women, a not for profit organisation who work with all aspects of the music industry to raise awareness of good practices and ways for venues to create safe spaces for women. This was a really interesting chat for me, as a man my only safety consideration when going to gigs is: how close to the pit do I want to be today and to think that in the times we live in where the basic rights of equality and respect should be a given to anyone, its horrendous that a service like this is even needed. Tracey was great to speak to and gave a brilliant insight into how Safe Gigs For Women came about, her own journey as a music lover, the people that have stepped up to help spread the word and the services available to people. Without just rehashing the conversation, after having time to reflect on this, her comments around artists that ‘own their mosh pit’ really stuck with me. Frank Turner was the example here but there are other musicians from Sam Carter of Architects to Drake who have been highlighted as calling out members of their audience after seeing a whole range of abhorrent behaviour and whilst I think it is great that these instances are brought into the public eye, it does spark the question - could artists be doing more to ensure these acts don’t happen in the first place rather than having to react after the event? I would love to see some public service announcements at festivals by headline acts speaking out about this or clear messages that abuse is not tolerated when bands are promoting their vip ticket upgrades and soundcheck passes. https://sgfw.org.ukhttps://www.facebook.com/safegigsforwomen@safegigs4women Hosted on Acast. Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re all well, we’re back with another episode recorded at Slam Dunk 2022. The 2023 festival is just under 3 weeks away and looks to be another awesome day with a line up mixing up some of the best Punk / Rock and bands around with a good blend of legends and new faces. Here I speak to Canadian rocker and host of the great podcast Lead Singer Syndrome: Silverstein vocalist Shane Told who highlights my love of tapping - Brendan and Tyler from Canadian hardcore band COUNTERPARTS and wrapping up this episode is Chuck Ragan and yet another Canadian, Mr Chris Crestwell of Hot Water Music. As I’ve said before, this was a busy day but filled with conversations featuring absolute heroes and I genuinely enjoyed speaking to and meeting each of these guests. Festival slots can be tricky as these conversations are often very restricted by time and guests are being ushered around a heaving press tent with music from at least 2 stages competing against each other as well as our voices however everyone of the guests from Slam Dunk, not just this episode, were incredibly giving with their responses and hopefully these are as much fun to listen to as they were to record.  Hosted on Acast. Hello People, welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re all well. We are back with the second of 4 episodes recorded at Slam Dunk 2022 - if you haven’t checked out the first  - it’s a treat and features Knuckle Puck, Beauty School, As December Falls and Sum 41 - it was quite a day I would recommend going back and listening to it to the episode - it was a lot of fun recording the conversations. This is episode Fifty eight and features Dan ‘Soupy’ Campbell, of The Wonder Years and Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties.I was a late comer to The Wonder Years but when I first heard Came Out Swinging I was hooked and this has been a conversation I’ve wanted to record for ages. Dan did not disappoint and was an absolute pleasure to talk to, it was awesome to hear about his early days with music, the formation of The Wonder Years and their progression from a crazy joke band to how they are now. I’d not heard ‘Won’t be pathetic forever’ until just before this conversation and hadn’t realised it was the first thing they released as this version of the band. It’s still great and I’ve included a YouTube link to the EP if you haven’t heard it. The set at Slam Dunk was also brilliant, they gave an absolute master class in delivering a tight and emotive performance, they don’t currently have any live dates but their last U.K. tour with Beauty School was great and I’m excited for when they come back round although Dan’s other project Arron West and the roaring twenties will be at 2000 trees this year so if you are there and the line up for that looks amazing, then go check that out. https://youtu.be/bTSkMXz7XrY Hosted on Acast. Hello people, welcome to the When in Yorkshire Podcast it’s been a while! Sorry for the massive gap in episodes but we’re back and have so many conversations ready to go! We’re kicking off with the first of 4 episodes featuring conversations recorded at Slam Dunk festival 2022! This was the busiest day of recording we’ve ever had but was great to speak to so many people. I want to give a missive shout out to public city pr who once again did an awesome job managing the press tent and making everything run smoothly - Siobhan and her team in Leeds are always a pleasure to work with and put in a huge shift not just on the day but months leading up to it, putting up with my many, many emails and requests- without her all of the podcasts, radio interviews, Kerrang video interviews and various other press pieces we love reading listening to and watching they just wouldn’t happen. So this episode features 4 of the conversations from the day, staring with joe and John from Chicago’s very own Knuckle Puck, then i caught up with grant and Liam from Yorkshire’s finest: Beauty School, Beth from As December Falls and the episode wraps up with Dave and Cone of Canadian pop punk royalty Sum 41. Much like the whole day these were all a lot of fun to record and it was great to speak to seasoned pro’s of knuckle puck, new comers in beauty school and as December falls and veterans of sun 41 but get the same excitement of playing music and being at the festival from all of them. If you’re not familiar with all the guests, please check out the wiypodcast playlist on Spotify where you can listen to tracks from all of the musical guests that have been on and especially beauty school and as December falls, check out their merch and up coming tour dates as they had some brilliant music out and your support will help keep them going. https://knucklepuckil.comhttps://beautyschool.bandhttps://www.asdecemberfalls.comhttp://www.sum41.comhttps://open.spotify.com/playlist/5WguWZu1N8br97h97FOXXm?si=deVVCVRgTueKSwJNbARKTg&dd=1 Hosted on Acast. Hello people, welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re all well and this is a treat of an episode for anyone who likes to know about the hidden workings of the live music or live performance industry as I get to chat with one of the nicest guys about all things in the world of production and lighting design. This is episode 56 and features Tom Campbell who I met up with in Leeds whilst he was on tour making Skunk Anansie look stunning and for me, it created a whole new experience as a piece of performance with clear nods to the themes of Post Orgasmic Chill but pulled into the present. This was a chat that could quite easily have gone on for many hours and if I wasn’t aware that I was holding Tom back from eating, I might have been tempted to continue it for another 20 mins!Tom gives a great insight into the way he approaches production design, his journey to where he is and some of the gigs that inspired and influenced him. We also chat about his crew focused clothing and accessories brand stndy which produces high-quality good-looking gear suitable for the challenges faced by touring crew worldwide. Now, I may not be part of that world but will be upgrading my podcast equipment bag to their stab proof beautiful backpack. Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you are all having a lovely time whatever you’re up to. Here in Yorkshire we’ve had some delightful weather mixed with a few huge downpours which I believe is the official northern confirmation of Summer. As U.K. recording this introduction festival season is well under way - Slam Dunk has been and was fantastic - more on that in a couple of weeks, Download looks to have been amazing and Glastonbury has finally returned. , it’s been brilliant to see some form of normality resume both in the general world and the live music and events industry. This is episode 55 and features a man who is loved by so many people, Mr Benji Webbe of reggae / metal superstars Skindred. When I mentioned to people who know him that I was about to chat with Benji or letting people know this episode is coming out, the response without fail was always, ahh I love Benji, what a great guy. And after getting to spend some time chatting, I would 100% echo this sentiment. Not only are Skindred fantastic musicians but they know how how to put on a show and Benji is the ringmaster of this. I have had the conversation about how great Skindred are with many people over the years and the common consensus is; they simply do not know how to put on not even a bad show but even a mediocre one. If for whatever reason you are not a fan of this band, check them out live. It’s a party you don’t want to miss. In the short time we had he was great to chat to and very open about the experiences he’s had over the years. I was very close to getting a sneaky listen to the forthcoming album but time got the better of us as he was a busy man!I have included the first song I remember I remember hearing along with another classic Skindred track to the wiypodcast playlist over on Spotify - there are many great tracks from guests, give it a listen. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5WguWZu1N8br97h97FOXXm?si=VJtyJlOoRAi8rlb14iQSvQ Hosted on Acast. Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re all well it’s been way too long since the last episode due to contracting covid and life but I’ve got lots of great episodes coming up which I’m excited to share. This is episode 54 which was recorded way back in July 2021 and features Andy Farrow of Northern Music company. This was one of the first times I’d visited Saltaire which is a beautiful village just outside of bradford in West Yorkshire. Andy was great to chat to and it was really interesting to hear from someone who manages, publishes and books bands about the changes he has seen in the music industry over his career. We chat about some of the bands he works with and has worked with including Opeth, Devin Townsend, Paradise Lost, The Wildhearts and many more. Just like my other guests, Andy was very honest and happy to cover a whole range of topics which, as someone who is fascinated by the working of the music Indic that are often kept in the background, I loved hearing about his experiences and thoughts on the future of touring, streaming and vinyls importance. I could quite easily have continued chatting to Andy for ages but alas I think I made him for a visit to one of Saltaire’s beverage emporiums!  Hosted on Acast. Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, this is episode 53 and the first episode recorded in 2022. Due to the ongoing covid pandemic, all of the planned recordings for January have been cancelled due to to either the gigs not going ahead or requiring to keep touring parties closed to outside visitors in order to keep the tour going - all of which makes perfect sense and I fully support. My guest this episode is Joe Cabrera of Leeds based band Beauty School who have signed to and have a very exciting year planned with some amazing shows already booked including a headline show at The Key Club in Leeds on 9th April, opening the Rock Scene stage at this years Slam Dunk Festival and some support dates in March which Joe announces in this conversation. It was great hearing about Joe’s journey in music thinking about a lot of the bands that influenced him and experiences he’s had. If you’re not aware of Beauty School, firstly you’re in for a treat especially if you are a fan of as their press release accurately describes as emo infused alternative rock but I’d add if you’re a fan of hook laden catchy and well crafted music. I’ve been listening to 4 tracks including current single ‘Take it slow’ and upcoming single ‘Pawn Shop Jewels’ both of which have been stuck in my head for days. Take It Slow has been added to the Wiypodcast playlist on Spotify and I will do the same with Pawn Hop Jewels once that has been released. Before the conversation starts, I’d like to point out that background ambiance and coffee were provided by http://kapowcoffee.co.uk on the calls in Leeds. I strongly recommend it. https://beautyschool.band/  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re all very well. This is episode 52 and wraps up the recordings from Slam Dunk Festival 2021 at Temple Newsam in Leeds. This was a lovely way to end the day before heading out to enjoy The Alkaline Trio and NoFx, both of whom I last saw at Temple Newsam as part of the Leeds Festival nearly 20 years ago! My guest is DJ Zoe London. Now I had only heard of Zoe around 8 months prior to meeting her but in that time I have noticed her name on Leeds MadiGras, Leeds & Reading Festival, the Download festival Pilot and In the park festival featuring McFly, scouting for girls and others. Having then seen a few videos from these events I was genuinely fascinated as to how she got into the DJ world and where her influences come from as she has built a solid reputation for her mixes and entertaining show. I managed to get time with Zoe after she had finished with a few hours of press time and had made herself comfortable on the sofas. She was incredibly open and happy to chat about anything including how all other DJs she knew growing up are shit - not her exact words and I may be exaggerating a little there. Zoe educates me in the world of Twitch streaming and ways in which the DJ community have supported each other through the pandemic as well as the attitudes she has to deal with as a woman in the music industry. Hello People! Welcome to episode 51 of the When In Yorkshire Podcast, how are you? I hope you are all getting by as well as can be.I am back with another episode recorded at Slamdunk festival in Leeds - it was a busy day! If you’ve seen who my guest is this week, have a general Interest in punk rock and or podcasts, then this man needs not introduction. For the sake of everyone else, I will still do my best to summarise Mr Matt Stocks. I first remember seeing Matt conducting interviews on Skuzz TV and then he was one of the voices behind Kerrang Radio both of which were done very well and were informative and entertaining however after not hearing anything of him for a few years, I noticed his name crop up on a few festival posters where he was DJing and then it was his podcast Life in The Stocks which really captures my attention. I can’t remember how I came across it but I remember listening to his episode with Frank Turner, then Tom Green, Jamie Lenman, Andy Cairns and Grant Nicholas all of which captivated me and I have been hooked on Life in the stocks since. It’s not just the amazing guests he manages to get, although there are some huge names from the world of entertainment but it’s the tone and candid nature of the conversations. Matt has a great ability to get his guests on a level where they seem to feel comfortable covering any topic and many divulge very intimate thoughts and feelings. As a listener, it feels like a blend of interview and then getting to hear a private conversation between friends which ticks all the boxes for me. And then we move on to his latest podcast with Killswitch Engage vocalist Jessie Leech he which, if you haven’t heard - I am jealous of the amount of amazing hours of conversation you have ahead of you. These episodes focus on the people anf their experiences only really touching on their work if it’s relevant and really has created a community where listeners are guests on the show too. Links for both of these podcasts are in the description for you to check out as well as links to Matt’s first book - transcripts of sections from his life the stocks podcast covering various topics and it really is a great read covering conversations with the likes of Andrew wk l, Doug Stanhope,  Whilst Matt is known to be an open book and I was aware he would answer anything I asked if him, I inte ntionally kept this conversation light as it really felt like the day was a real milestone in the journey of his life in music and I wanted to get his take on this. There are many more questions I’d love to ask Matt and hopefully we’ll get to do a follow up episode in the future. For now I’ll let you listen to episode 51 from slam dunk festival with Matt Stocks.  https://open.spotify.com/show/3i5ON0eGOgaWgX58FG7rNk?si=K0FSW35zTMaHJ-wGpW2ywA https://open.spotify.com/show/4l04uOo5aE4ueSfeBREpQY?si=qEj7C95qShyxROfuaohwZw Life in the Stocks: Veracious Conversations with Musicians & Creatives (Volume One) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1644281872/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_SHM3MTH0PFZ8331DG4FG Hosted on Acast. Hello people! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you are all well. This is episode 50, we made it to half a century of face to face conversations held in venues, houses, tour buses, tents, festivals, coffee shops, hotels and pubs around Yorkshire. I want to thank everyone one who has given their time to have a conversation, Alun, Kieran and Mosh for their help with the recordings and everyone that has listened, got in touch and shared this podcast to help spread the word - it is massively appreciated. None of these episodes would have happened without the various PR companies who have dealt with my many, many emails, artist managers and tour managers who fit these conversations into the busy day of the touring party. Which moves us on to my guest for episode 50, the wonderful Tre Stead, tour manager extraordinaire for Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls. I first met Tre in January 2019 as she got me past security and through the labyrinth that is the First Direct  Arena in Leeds in order to record episodes 10 and 12 with Frank Turner and Nigel Powel during the mammoth Be Kind tour with amazing supports of Grace Petrie and Jimmy Eat World. It was clear from our brief interaction that day that she was shit hot at her job of ensuring smooth running of day to day life on tour including rounding up members of the bands, crew and as happened that day, facilitating multiple interviews and pulling people out of said interviews to go and sound check! My bad on the timing, sorry Tre!We have then crossed paths a few times and I heard through other people that Tre can legitimately claim the title of best tour manager as she has won an award for this exact reason. Having seen the impact the pandemic has had on the non performing side of the live music industry as was highlighted by the #wemakelive movement, it felt right to chat to someone who has got through this and is back on the road. Unsurprisingly, Tre was a delight and gave a really fun conversation.  Hosted on Acast. Hello People! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, hope you are all getting by ok. This is episode Forty Nine featuring Sleeping Soul and Dive Dive bassist as well as Vans For Bands head honcho, the very tall, Tarrant Anderson. Adding to my collection of The Sleeping Souls (Ben and Callum - I’m coming for you!) and another conversation held at Slam Dunk festival where The Sleeping Souls played on the Punk in Drublic stage, this was a conversation I’ve wanted to have since way back in January of 2019 after speaking to Nigel Powel about Dive Dive and was reignited after seeing the amazing work VFB did throughout the pandemic. We chat about these topics and more bit, if you have not taken the time to fully appreciate the magnificent bass work that Tarrant adds to Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls or even if you have - please go and check out not just the back catalogue of his work but also any live videos you can find as, without leaping into the air, he without fail delivers a technically perfect  and visually entertaining performance every time - or at least every time I’ve seen him play.   Hosted on Acast. Hello people! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope everyone is doing as well as can be. This is episode 48 and a return to some of the conversations I had at Slam Dunk Festival 2021 featuring multi instrumentalist member of The Sleeping Souls and Mongol Horde, Mr Matt Nasir. Now, I love a Frank Turner Solo gig but when The Sleeping Souls are in full flow, it’s quite a force and has produced some of my favourite gigs and festival sets of the last decade and probably more! Matt is a key element in this and has now gone on to duet with Frank. This was lovely to chat and it was also great to add to my Sleeping Souls collection. We get in to discussing Matt’s introduction to music and he is quite possibly the guest who started working as a musician  at the youngest age, how he came to join Frank, joining a hardcore band whilst disliking much of the hardcore- also we agree on a plan to get a new Mongol Horde album recorded. Hello people welcome to the when in Yorkshire Podcast, I hope everyone is as well as can be. This is episode 47 and features Mr Jon Gomm. Way back in the autumn of 2018 when I was thinking about starting this podcast, Jon was one of the first people I had on my list of people to chat to as I was a fan of Secrets nobody keeps and was aware he lived in Yorkshire along with people I know who have previously met giving favourable reports which all led me to believe this was meant to be. However due to a mixture of not being free at the same time and a global pandemic, it has taken 3 years to sort out.  If you’re not aware of Jon’s music he is a guitarist singer songwriter who uses percussive and finger tapping techniques to create layers and add additional dynamics to his songs. I met Jon at his home in Yorkshire where I was lucky enough to see his signature Ibanez JGM which is a beautiful looking and sounding guitar released in 2021 - there is a link to a video about the conception of thishttps://youtu.be/pE0B_OoB-wM If you enjoy this chat and want to see Jon live he is on tour in October and November all dates are on his websitehttps://jongomm.com Hosted on Acast. Hello people! Welcome to the When In Yorkshire Podcast, I hope you’re all well and if you’re listening close to the release of this episode I hope you’ve managed to get out and enjoy some of the September sun! It’s been 2 weeks since slam Dunk festival in Leeds and Hatfield. It has been amazing seeing the reaction from those who attended, performed at and created the festival. Before we get into the conversations I want to use this introduction to talk about a couple of points. Firstly I was incredibly grateful to be at the festival this year - it was my first live music event and first public event since March 2019. The fact that Slam Dunk went ahead this year should not be taken for granted - this was rescheduled multiple times, took place in September instead of May, went through many line up changes and yet still managed to include sets by U.K., international and bands that for all intents and purposes, don’t exist anymore! The amount of work that has gone into this from the Slam Dunk team, which is no where near as big as you might think, is impressive. They have taken financial and reputational risks to keep the festival going and pulled it off whilst still keeping the scale and both north and south legs.  Secondly it was brilliant to see how the festival has evolved and grown from the one I first attended in 2006 which had one stage in millennium square of Leeds and featured the last time I saw Capdown prior to this year. Having previously taken over Leeds city and many venues, this 2nd outing held in the original site of Leeds festival took me back to memories of early festivalemorie - this felt like an extension and development of the concrete jungle stage which is where I first heard bands like reel big fish, bowling for soup, the Ataris, the crockets and Alkaline trio. From what I remember as a club night and and some fantastic gig at the now closed cockpit in Leeds during the early 2000s it was amazing and a little emotional to see what the team created - not just a solid line up in difficult times after many last minute changes but the atmosphere which was full of energy and positivity.  It was a busy day of conversations but also great to catch some brilliant sets and also meet up with friends, some of whom I hadn’t seen in person for 2 years.  https://www.holdingabsence.com/http://www.zebrahead.comhttp://www.vukovi.co.ukhttp://www.dollskinband.comhttps://www.trashboat.co.ukhttps://www.slamdunkfestival.com Hosted on Acast.
