Sharna is back and we are going deep into the tricky subject of ADHD and lying. This is one of the most challenging and shameful things that comes with having a neuromagical brain. We pull apart the various things that contribute to the common misconception that ADHDers a compulsive liars and dig into the elements that actually happen and why they can make it seem like we're lying. We also look at the fact that many neurodivergent people simply cannot actually lie and what does this contradiction mean for navigating the multitude of relationships we need to on a daily basis. This was a fascinating subject and we all learnt a lot about ourselves doing the research for this one.Topics covered:Listener Question: How to communicate authentically when you're incapable of lying?Exaggeration and embellishmentLying to avoid rejectionIs masking basically lying?lying vs survivingwhen someone else lies... This is her third visit and today she is taking us through some of the challenges some ADHDers have with food and obesity. We want to be clear, we are not here for any form of size-shaming nor do we believe that larger bodies are in any way bad or wrong. What is interesting is looking at the sensory issues that might be affecting your relationship with food and how when we go looking for dopamine, sometimes that means we empty the pantry - this isn't a good thing in many ways! As Dr Di is a scientist and a Doctor, she explains some of the medications that could be used for treating some of these dopamine and mood challenges. Another reminder that if you have ANY questions about treatments or medications, you need to speak with your health care provider and do not take this as advice, because it absolutely isn't.Topics covered:RSD vs NarcisismExaggeration - it's a thing!Lifesavers taste testFood avoidanceDopamining (I'm totally claiming this)Types of taste that we craveSidequests:The correct way to hang toilet paperColonoscopy prepHermione Grainger is autisticADHD, Autism and email hellCome and join the F them fish community on the socials:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fthemfish_adhdforgrownups/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fthemfishADHDforgrownupsPlease like, rate, (5 stars are the only stars :D ) and follow the podcast wherever you listen. This podcast is recorded on the lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri People. We pay respect to Elders past, present, and emerging, and to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people listening.Welcome to Episode 11 of F#@% them fish: ADHD for grownups. A big welcome to all our new listeners and a massive hug to all our regular listeners... we love how many of you come back each week and share your stories with us xxThis podcast is all about our experience with Callie's late ADHD diagnosis and the questions we have as we continue to navigate life. This podcast is in no way medical advice or intended to be used as a diagnostic tool. In this episode, you asked and we answered - we are back with the inimitable Dr Di and her incredible crossover knowledge of biology, neuroscience, and medicine. Specifically, she teaches us all about estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, and how these affect ADHD during different parts of the menstrual cycle for anyone who has one. Exactly what is the difference between splurting, splurging, and shooting? Please note, we use the term 'female' in this podcast to include all people with a uterus and/or ovaries, who might experience the biological effects of hormones as discussed in this episode. This is in no way limited to outdated perceptions of gender. All people and experiences are welcome here. We learn how different hormones at different times of the cycle can affect ADHD medication, and how dopamine can help or hinder. We ask questions from our lovely listeners about menopause, HRT, and how to deal with some of the more annoying symptoms, such as night sweats and sleeplessness. Lauchy wants to know more about dopamine and we find out how it relates to some other mental health issues. Lauchy is SMRT and Callie likes it!As well as her academic and professional expertise, Dr Di has lived experience as a person with ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia, so you will need to accept our non-linear conversation, Star Trek references, and multiple sidequests!
