I meet another solo sailor named Sam Holmes, who also single-handed from California to Hawaii. We sail together on my boat from Oahu to Kuai and talk about our solo crossings along the way. You can watch a video of this journey here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RbsTy0hp9c&t=195s
Chapter 24: Land Ho

Chapter 24: Land Ho

2023-02-2813:00

I make it to shore after a gnarly last day at sea- I almost get thrown overboard, my headlamps get possessed, I sail way too far downwind, then I sail into a Jimmy Buffet song.
I don't want to be on this boat anymore.
I have a strange dream, I tell you about other dreams, I contemplate getting closer to shore.
There is no wind, it is hot, I think about what I would be if I lived in the sea... and other things.
The sky looks like Egypt and I get hypnotized by phosphorescence and hallucinate a lot of voices
I spill all of my darkest secrets to the squalls.
The wind is dead, I think back on a psychedelic trip, and why I dig religion.
I talk to you about daily life on the boat, safety gear, and reference books!
The waves are wild wild blue and I try to remember human voices.
Someone writes a comment that I don't know what I am doing at sea and need to turn around. This episode is in response to that, plus I gain a bird friend and learn some big lessons.
I write a message for a bottle to be sent to any stranger that the sea chooses.
I get philosophical about the spirit and gain a deeper understanding of why it is I set out to sea.
Juniper and I fly fast down big waves.
I get serenaded by the psychedelic song of dolphins
My engine bites the dust and I try to fix it.
Either my boat is getting haunted, or I am going crazy.
I think about how kinky the fish are getting beneath me. Perhaps I am lonely.
The wind escapes me.
I get all philosophical about the sea.
