We study this 10-year period of David's life where he made several mistakes (2 Samuel 11-24, 1 Chronicles 17-21). David committed adultery with Bathsheba. David ignored problems within his own family that eventually resulted in a nation-wide rebellion led by his son Absalom. David ordered a census, that brought God's judgement. We present key lessons that will help us avoid implosion, from this season including: (A) Stay in the battle. Stay in your place of assignment. (B) Don’t’ ignore your core. When the core weakens, the whole collapses. (C) Resolve issues at the first instant. Delays could mean disaster. (D) Guard your vulnerabilities in the highs and lows. (E) God is bigger than our mistakes. He realigns and restores. Watch our online Sunday Church service live stream every Sunday at 10:30am (Indian Time, GMT+5:30). When God works in our life powerfully, we must consolidate what He does in us, for us and through us. We must make it part of us, so that we continue in it and build from there. We do not want to waste the good thing that God does and just make it part of our memory as a thing that once happened and has no more effect in our lives. Every powerful thing that God does, every blessing He pours out, every experience, every revelation, every insight, must become another building block in our upward journey in God, and take us to higher realms in God. Here are seven key insights from this phase of David's life that teach us how to consolidate and expand on what God is doing: (1) Let the Lord build the house. (2) Continue to listen and obey. (3) Prioritize passion for the Lord – establish continuous worship. (4) Walk under God’s covenant. (5) Great victories come through teamwork. (6) Establish sound organization and administration. (7) Demonstrate kindness. In this sermon we follow David's story through 1 Samuel 31, 2 Samuel chapters 1-5. We recount David’s journey from Bethlehem, to the wilderness, to Hebron, to Jerusalem. After Saul's death, David asks God for direction, where to move. David obeyed God and moved to Hebron. As soon as David made the move, even without his making any effort the people of Judah came and made him their king. Hebron is where David learns to rule Judah before ruling Israel. Only later does he move to Jerusalem and establish his capital. An important lesson for us here. Anointing precedes appointment, and appointment precedes expansion. God anoints you, then appoints you and then consolidates and expands your work. We also the importance of positioning – learning to move in step and in time with God – to journey into what He has planned and purposed for us. We also discover the importance of the “Hebron season” where David a shepherd boy, who later led a band of about 400 men, learned to rule over a tribe, before he could rule over a nation. We identify some things that happened during his “Hebron season” that laid a good foundation for future consolidation and expansion. In our seasons of adversity/challenges/difficulties we must remember that God is still on our side and is at work in our lives. Learn to recognize what God is doing. Examining the life of David as recorded in 1 Samuel chapters 19-31, we highlight: 1, Recognize the people God is positioning around you. People whom God sends into your life during difficult times could be instrumental in helping you discern God’s direction for your life. 2, Recognize reminders of past victories. Recognize reminders of what God has done in your life. These are God’s divine assurances that He is still at work in your life. 3, Recognize how God is building your future even when everything is being stripped away. Recognize that God is putting things in place for a great future, even in the midst of adversity. 4, Recognize God’s protection from hasty action. Recognize how God is guiding you, protecting and establishing your steps and keeping you from mistakes, as you journey through difficult times. 5, Recognize God helping you recover all and more! Recognize the victories and success God gives you during your season of adversity.
