Description

Hello and welcome to Musicall! This podcast aims to connect people all around the world through the art of world music. The world is starting to emerge out of the COVID - 19 pandemic and during this past year, the experience of singing together and connecting people has been greatly compromised due to restrictions on certain activities. In this podcast, I hope to help people gain interest in music all over the world and bring a modern perspective to what are believed to be “ancient” art forms of music, as well as modern music in order to explore how music had evolved throughout history.

Every year, our family celebrates the festival of Gollu, which involves creating wooden steps filled with idols of different gods, people in society, and religious stories, as a way to honor the gods and goddesses of Hinduism and tell prayers, sing songs, and celebrate them over the course of a week. Our family also creates a scene of a folktale in Hindu mythology, which I narrated as a kid and recorded, for everyone coming to our festival to hear. Last year, my brother took on this role and recorded the story of Kubera, and how his pride was quelled by Ganesha, the elephant god. This year, he reprised another story of Ganesha, and how he defeated a fire - breathing demon, named Analasura, but not without immense struggle and chaos. Listen in to hear this amazing story, and stay tuned for more episodes!
In this episode, I will be diving into the impact of animal sounds on the Tamil music industry of south India. With the amazing experience of my dad, we will be breaking down the integration and development of animal sounds in music, from the abrupt bray of a bull, to the seamless integration of a bird call into a catchy beat. I hope you enjoy this episode and learn more about the impact of nature; which essentially gave rise to music, and why it is so valuable to world music! In this episode, I was stoked to interview Kyle Brands, a tour manager who had taken us to so many beautiful locations around Europe in these past two weeks and has enabled us to perform in some of the most gorgeous venues in Europe in addition to taking in the beauty of all of these places. He has been an inspiration to me and had arguably been my best friend on this trip! I hope this episode can show you how amazing of a person he is!!
Today, our choir performed in the Kulturuplast in Dresden, Germany along with another extremely talented mens choir, known as the München Knabenchor. I was especially inspired by their conductor, who was full of energy and was extremely passionate about music. I had some time to speak with him about how the choir grew as well as the amount of dedication she hsrd work that it took to get there!
In this episode, I interviewed my friend Enoch Jung while on our 2022 Europe Tour which had been nothing but an absolute pleasure to be a part of. Recording this episode was no easy feat as we kept laughing back and forth about how to frame the storyline and truly give the audience a sense of how he became a star! I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed making it and are inspired to pursue choral music, and bring some “cool” to this long lasting art form!
In this episode, I was so excited to interview SoundCloud star and good friend Rishi Atreya (aka Reesh). Taking his hobbies for percussion and jamming with friends, he has produced several hit tracks and has collaborated with other famous SoundCloud rappers. I hope you enjoy this episode and are inspired by his journey!
Today, our choir performed alongside the Martins Mixed Choir and sang together for our encore piece. After the show, I got a chance to speak with the tour manager of the choir, who is also a vocalist himself. Listen to learn more about his amazing journey that took him all over the world!
I was fortunate to perform with the Slovenian youth choir, a group of talented college students who graced the Ljubljana Cathedral with their wonderful voices and exciting personalities. I was able to interview 4 of the choir tenors and basses and was even able to enjoy a live “freestyle” of a song called “Frog” that they learned from a local choir and performed with no piano or pitch reference! This was a once in a lifetime experience for me that I will remember for years to come and I hope that I can help you experience the immense passion and talent that these vocalists possess!!
In Vienna, I was extremely fortunate to see both the local orchestra as well as the orchestras and bands from my high school in California. When I spoke with the conductor, I could see that he not only has an immense passion and love for music but also gave back to the community by directing local orchestras and teaching children to play different instruments from a young age. Something that he mentioned that I also noticed in Vienna is the strong sense of community through music. So many different composers such as Mozart and Schubert were from Austria and have created a legacy for not just Austrians but for people all over the world to learn and perform music, and build a sense of community through doing so. That is exactly what this podcast is all about and I hope to help contribute to this cause through these episodes!
