Description

It's a scary movie podcast about my big scary movie list on my big scary yellow pad with my very normal (but maybe scary) friends.

Holy Hell that was a long release gap! But here it is, the next episoide I'd promised. If you remember that I'd promised it. And if you're still interested in what I'd promised, which was an episode about four different Jaws knockoff movies with killer animals. This it a fun one between myself and Michael Heffernan, who was a good sport about having to watch four movies of wildly varying quality.
The Company of Wolves

The Company of Wolves

On today's episode, Rachel and I learn that it's bad to read before going to sleep because your imagination is trying to actively traumatize you with an army of not that scary good boy doggos who just wanna run through your house! I mean, it'll also give you horrific visions of gruesome, skin ripping werewolf transformations and smashed doll heads, but just think about all those doggos! The movie is The Company of Wolves, directed by Neil Jordan and written by Jordan and Anglea Carter, based on stories from Carter's book "The Bloody Chamber."
Taking the week off to enjoy Beyond Fest and to get ahead on edits, so here's a fun one from last year! This is the Bonus Round episode about Cathy's Curse with my good friend Jamie Gagnon.

You like movies? You like movies about making movies? You like movies about secret movies being made while people are making movies? Do you want to read the word movie just one more time in this description? What the actual hell are you talking about, Dan? I'm talking about Effects, my favorite of the year so far, one of my new all times faves, and a motion picture that my guest John Salvador also enjoyed very much. It's a funny, dark, surprising, and indie as heck. Hope y'all dig it!

I gotta tell ya, this is the most a movie has ever been hyped for me where it's also matched the expectations set. It's spooky, it's bloody, it's shockingingly great for a Paul W. S. Anderson movie, and every performance was on point. Other than poking at the director, I have no bit for this episode, this movie kind of kicks that much ass. My good buddy Alex and I really enjoyed talking about it, and we also have a lot to say regarding the Audio Description and accessibility for both streaming and theatrical releses. Dig it!
You like slashers? You like Scream? Wanna watch two movies that are definitely not Scream, but still a lot of fun? Or at least one movie that isn't Scream and is a lot of fun but maybe not good? Then you're just the audience to join my awesome buddy Faye and I for the first two Urban Legends movies! Or at least the first one! Or the second one too, if you're me. I really hope someone else likes the second one.
Hi y’all, been a bit! And guess what? Here’s a special episode where we kinda discuss Halloween Ends! Again! My good buddy Kevin Proff did a series review for David Gordon Green’s Halloween Trilogy (and Halloween ’78 because that’s relevant), as well as the non-horror movie My Bodyguard (because that’s also related somehow kinda). Also, big announcement for the previous season’s episodes, as well as my favorites from last year! Enjoy it y’all, and see you again in September for the next season of the show. Happy early spooky season!
Bojana Sandic and I finish off the whole dang series by assigning all of you a lot of homework. But if it makes you feel any better about it, the homework is ghosts. Or maybe not ghosts. One of these at least definitely has ghosts in it. Please join us for this Book Club episode that I'm quite proud of, where we cover The Turn of the Screw, The Innocents (1961), and the Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor. That last one has ghosts in it. And this final episode may have many conceptual ghosts in it. It's haunted. This episode is haunted and probably full of ghosts. Boo.
Bonus Round: Cathy's Curse

Bonus Round: Cathy's Curse

2022-11-0901:06:24

I think the important lesson myself and Jamie Gagnon learned in this week's movie is that when the new neighbor girl says that she wants to play "car crash," you say no. Also, maybe leaving your kid to be babysat by a drunk old man isn't a solid plan, just saying. Cathy's Curse is a wild ride, and we really hope you join us for it.
In this special Extra Credit episode, you get my midnight rantings and ravings about movie recs for the Halloween weekend as well as a short convo over a bad internet connection about the maligned but truly incredible new horror sequel Halloween Ends. That's right, we liked the movie, and we talk about how much we liked it, and we do so in mostly unbroken thoughts because of the bad latency. Have a Happy Halloween everyone and see y'all the week after next!
Jennifer's Body

Jennifer's Body

You are so jello that me and Justine got to talk about Jennifer's Body. You're lime green jello and you can't even admit it to yourself. We had a great time discussing this poorly marketed gem from 2009 about a bad freindship and a middling emo ballad that's success is being boosted by an attempted demonic sacrifice. So wear something cute, okay, because this movie is going to eat your soul and sh*t it out!
Let The Right One In

Corn syrup blood is still the best looking blood, and here's a Swedish vampire movie with some seriously great looking blood. There's even a spectacular character drama attatched to it as well! Lohanne Cook and I discuss Tomas Alfredson's deeply felt and emotionally complex horror movie, and I hope you can appreciate it along with us.
Q: The Winged Serpent

Q: The Winged Serpent

2022-10-1101:19:00

Is Q: The Winged Serpent good movie? Does it matter if a movie is good if it's awesome? If my guest and and good friend Noah's response is any indication, even if you think this motion picture about a giant flying creature taking big heckin' chomps out of people in New York is a bad movie, you'll probably have a great time watching it. Bonus points if you're down for a (surprisingly mild) skin-flaying or two.
Aaron Neuwirth and I discuss Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer in between many other discussions that are sometimes horror related. We both come to the conclusion that Michael Rooker is great, this movie is great, and the new Space Jam is bad. We we depart in opinion is the quality of Scream 4.
We Need to Talk About Kevin

We Need to Talk About Kevin

2022-09-2601:29:39

Me and Kevin talk about Kevin, and boy do we have a lot to say about Kevin. And when we emotionally no longer can handle talking about Kevin, we talk about video games. And then a little more about Kevin.
The Hunger

The Hunger

2022-09-1901:18:12

This week, myself and my old radio buddy Stephanie talk about a vampire with no butt and another vampire who has some real issues with healthy monogamy. Both of these vampires are obsessed with Susan Sarandon (whose hair looks really great here, if very of the decade). We watched the very aesthetic and goth adjacent vampire movie The Hunger, which is a movie I can highly recommend staring at for at least its runtime.
Basket Case

Basket Case

2022-09-1201:12:44

This week, my good buddy John and I talk about a lump with arms, a face, and a whole lot of feelings. The lump also enjoys hamburgers. We watched the grindhouse horror masterpiece Basket Case, which is an absolute hoot of a time. Watch with some friends and then tune in and then ask your friends to tune in as well!
Night of the Comet

Night of the Comet

2022-09-0501:20:30

I can't think of a better time to shop at the mall than after an Apocalyptic event, something the protagonists of this film really take advantage of. This week, my old roomie Michael joins me for a really fun and funny Sci-Fi Action Horror Comedy with some suprisingly good big 80's hair and a whole lot of red dust.
