As we begin a new series called “Practices of the Faith”, we are focusing on the spiritual disciplines that shape how we follow Jesus in everyday life. Fasting is one of the most important and least understood of the practices in Scripture. Fasting is the intentional decision to lay aside food and other things in order to seek God more fully through prayer and dependence. We are beginning this series with fasting because it will help reset our spiritual priorities and create space for God to work in us. Also, as we enter into a season of prayer and fasting for 21 days, I believe that we will receive a renewed hunger, greater focus, and deeper reliance on God as a church family

In a world that constantly competes for our attention and shapes the way we think, desire, and live, it’s easy to be formed without even realizing it. Scripture reminds us that we are always being shaped by something—either by the patterns of the world or by the way of Jesus. This message invites us to pause, reflect, and realign our lives around Christ by asking honest questions about who or what is shaping us, who God is calling us to become, and how we will intentionally follow Him into that life. As we step into a new year, this is an invitation to reset—not our schedules or devices, but our discipleship—choosing once again to be formed by the ways and words of Jesus.

We talk about the story of Jesus all the time, but we don’t always stop to think about Joseph. Think about what he went through—finding out Mary was pregnant, wrestling with what to do, and then having angels speak to him. Scripture shows us a man under real pressure, facing a lot of uncertainty. Joseph didn’t have all the answers, but he trusted God anyway. And because of that, he saw and was a part of the story of Jesus, the Savior of the world. God always has the a better plan than we could ever have on our own; what is on the other side of our obedience?

This weekend we continue our Family of God series with our final message entitled “The Family That Welcomes the Stranger.” Throughout Scripture, God reveals His heart for the foreigner, the outsider, and the displaced, calling His people to love, protect, and welcome those who are far from home. As a church family, we want to better understand what it means to live out this calling in our own community. Today’s message will take the form of a conversation as we hear the story and perspective of Medard Ngueita, Executive Director of World Relief Western Washington, whose own journey powerfully reflects God’s work of turning strangers into family. Together, we will explore how the Gospel shapes our compassion and invites us to reflect the heart of Jesus to all.

Today we continue our Family of God series with a special message called “Reaching the Next Generation”. As a church, we believe every generation matters and that passing on our faith is one of our greatest biblical responsibilities. Rather than hearing from one pastor, you’ll hear from our Children’s Pastor, Youth Pastor, and Young Adults Pastor as they share how God is moving in the lives of children, students, and young adults—and how we, as a spiritual family, can intentionally raise them in the faith. Together, we want to seek God’s heart for the next generation and take ownership of the call to disciple those who are coming behind us.

This weekend in our Family of God series, we are taking time to honor the older generation in our church—those who have walked with Jesus faithfully and carry wisdom that strengthens the entire body. Rather than a traditional sermon, Pastor Ben will interview two trusted leaders from our NWC family, inviting them to share not only from their experience but also to help guide us in how to better honor, value, and learn from the older saints in our church and broader community. Scripture calls us to stand in the presence of the aged and to seek wisdom from those who have gone before us, and today we posture our hearts to listen, learn, and celebrate the gift they continue to be in God’s family.

In this life we will encounter storms. It is not a matter of if but rather when. What should our posture be when we come up against the storms of life? As believers, we must know that Jesus is with us and leading us through these seasons. The story does not end in our storm, it ends with Jesus.

Parenting is more than a responsibility—it’s a sacred calling. God entrusts parents to shape hearts, model faith, and prepare the next generation to follow Jesus. Scripture gives us a clear framework for how to do this well, which is captured in today’s message through six words: SHOW, TEACH, LOVE, GUARD, DISCIPLINE, and PREPARE. When we follow biblical principles in our parenting, we help our children build lives rooted in truth, strengthened by love, and guided by purpose.

Marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts, yet it can also be one of our greatest challenges. Before sin complicated relationships, God gave us a blueprint for flourishing—He formed individuals with purpose, brought them together in partnership, united them in covenant, and invited them into fearless intimacy. Whether your marriage is thriving, struggling, or somewhere in-between, Genesis chapter 2 reminds us that God has a beautiful design for husbands and wives to walk in together.

In a world where manhood is often distorted, dismissed, or misunderstood, God is still searching for men who reflect His heart. True godly manhood isn’t about dominance or perfection—it’s about devotion, surrender, and pursuit. David’s life reminds us that what God values most isn’t status, strength, or success, but a heart that desires Him. Today, we’ll explore what it means to be “a man after God’s own heart” and how that pursuit can reshape our identity, relationships, and purpose.

Every family has a culture—an atmosphere shaped by what they value and how they live. In Romans 12, Paul paints a picture of what the culture of God’s family is meant to look like. It’s not defined by the world’s standards, but by the mercy of God that has transformed our lives. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live differently—with humility, service, love, and grace. The culture of God’s family is a culture of transformation from the inside out, where renewed hearts create a renewed community that reflects the character of Christ to the world around us.

Life doesn’t always look like we imagined it would. For many, that includes the unexpected journey of singleness, a season that can feel overlooked, delayed, or lonely. But through Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 7, we discover that singleness isn’t a waiting room. It's a gift—a season full of purpose, devotion, and belonging within the family of God. This weekend, we’ll see that no matter what season we’re in, we can find contentment in Christ, trust God’s timing, and live fully where He’s placed us.

When the Church was born in Acts 2, it wasn’t built on personalities or programs — it was built on Jesus and a people who were fully devoted to Him. The early believers formed a spiritual family that was grounded in truth, united in love, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. This week, we’re looking at the foundation that made the Church strong — repentance, faith, community, prayer, and generosity — and how those same values still hold the family of God together today.

This weekend we celebrate all that God has done through Northwest Church this past year. Yet with our
celebration comes an exhortation: stay faithful! Northwest Church is a hospital for the broken, a well for
the thirsty, a training ground for harvest workers, and a Gospel resource for our region and the world. From
generation to generation, the flame of God’s Spirit has spread through us—and it still burns today. We are not
here to cast a new vision, but to ask God to give us a renewed heart for the vision He has already entrusted to
us. And as we strengthen our commitment to the mission—to see the lost saved and disciples made—we stand
expectant for a move of God greater than anything we’ve ever seen before.

In this message, Pastor Daniel highlights the central role of education in fulfilling the Great Commission. He explains that discipleship is not just about attending church but about lifelong learning, being transformed by Christ, and equipping believers through deeper study of God's word. Using biblical examples and church history, he calls the church to embrace education as a vital tool for shaping strong, Spirit-filled disciples and future leaders.

Transformation happens in community. The family of God is a design by God and not us. Therefore, being a part of community is not optional as Christians. As we embrace the community of God, we become who God has called us to be.

Have you ever struggled with a critical spirit? God is a God who welcomes us into participating in what He is doing in and around us. We are not called to simply watch from a distance. How do we go from criticism to celebration and participation? We must correct our lens with the truth of God's word.

Life has a way of leaving us broken: through the pain of broken relationships, loss, disappointment, betrayal, and even our own sinful choices. But, God’s plan is not just to forgive us—it’s also to heal us. In His family, the church, He meets us in our pain, brings comfort and restoration, and then uses our story to help bring healing to others.

Today we’re kicking off a brand-new series called The Family of God. And here’s the big idea: when God saves us, He doesn’t just rescue us as individuals and send us on our way—He brings us into a family. The church isn’t a club, it’s not a crowd, it’s not just a Sunday event—it’s God’s household. That’s what makes following Jesus both beautiful and challenging. Beautiful, because you’re no longer on the outside looking in —you belong. Challenging, because family takes work—it requires forgiveness, commitment, and love. Over the next several weeks, we’re going to see what it really means to be the family of God—how we relate to one another, how we welcome others in, and how we live out our mission together. But today, we’re going to start where Paul starts in Ephesians 2—by remembering where we came from, celebrating what Jesus has done to bring us near, and seeing that God is still building us together as His family.

As christians, we know that we have all sinned–but it is the power of Christ and His work on the cross that has saved us. Because of this, we can live in true freedom from sin and condemnation. How do we allow this truth continuously transform us? We must remember who God is, through the truth of His word, and the life he invites us into.
