If you’re a woman who’s been successful in nearly every area of life but your health is still a sticking point for you, you’re in the right place.Do you wish that you had more energy and felt better in your own skin? Are you doing everything “right” but still not seeing the results that you want? You’re in good company. If the eat-less-exercise-more model actually worked, then everything would be a lot easier, but womens’ bodies are far more complex than that.Today I’m sharing a little of my own story and how I overcame disordered eating, anxiety, insomnia, and chronic illness. If I could change my relationship with food and my body, you can too and I’m here to support you along the way! My relationship with my body shifted in my late 30s, after finally being diagnosed with a thyroid disorder and finding joy in making myself stronger. I became fascinated with finding out how to use food as medicine and enrolled in nutrition school shortly after. It’s my mission to help you feel better in your own skin, and empower you to take control of your health while avoiding common pitfalls along the way.You deserve to have a healthy relationship with food and to actually enjoy what you eat. Exercise should be FUN, and something that works for you in whatever stage you’re at right now. The first step is deciding that you want more for yourself. Interested in working with Jeannie one on one? I don’t know a single other woman who hasn’t at some point put off whatever she wants or needs to do in order to feel her best, because something else seemed more important in the moment. Personally, I didn’t always feel like I deserved to put myself first. I didn’t want to be selfish or vain, so I always felt a little guilty. What have you put your health on the back burner for? What are you telling yourself is more important or more urgent than your health? Why wait for the scary wake-up call to start prioritizing yourself?Whether you feel that it’s time to start taking better care of yourself or you have been trying to but need to fine tune, remember that there are factors at play that you can control, and some that you can’t. The key is to just start taking small steps to make necessary changes. If you’re looking for support in reaching your health goals, schedule a free 30-minute Coffee Talk here to see if we’re a good fit to work together.Tiny Habits by B.J. The average American woman will spend 17 years of her life on a diet, but only a fifth of us will maintain weight loss for a year or longer. We’ve been told that our value is determined by our looks and, while we know that this is bullshit, we still tend to believe it.When you prioritize weight loss over your health as a whole, it never pays off in the long run, and it can actually create additional metabolic problems. So you end up worse off than when you started. Excess weight is not a problem in and of itself, but instead it’s a symptom of whatever else is going on.Mainstream medicine likes to treat each symptom individually, in a vacuum. Functional medicine and functional nutrition looks at where the problem is originating from and works to restore that foundational balance so that the symptoms can resolve. That’s why I’m so against the calories-in/calories-out advice we hear everywhere: it’s grossly oversimplified.Diets don’t teach you how to navigate everyday life without a structured plan.A meal plan won’t serve you well if you go out to dinner with family, a client, on a vacation, or really anywhere away from your kitchen. If someone is dictating what you eat, you won’t learn how to make empowered decisions that take your unique situation into account. How do you learn to plan ahead and food prep in ways that will work for you?Move away from processed foods.Find what foods agree with you and don’t by paying attention to how you feel for a few hours after you eat.Don’t overly restrict yourself.Try switching to an organic version of a favorite processed food before trying to eliminate it entirely.Be kind to yourself and give yourself grace. It’s not about perfection. It’s about being consistent and making choices that honor your body more often than not. If you’re looking for support in reaching your health goals, schedule a free 30-minute Coffee Talk here to see if we’re a good fit to work together. References:Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders - StatisticsDiet culture is everywhere. If you really want to improve your health, metabolism, performance, and overall quality of life, listen up! Although each of my clients is unique, there are 6 Pillars that I focus on in my work because they have the most lasting impact.Mindset - Your mind drives the bus, so your mindset needs to be your focus, not motivation.Stress management - Improving your sleep is huge! Reduce your internal and external stressors as much as possible, set boundaries, and move your body.Inflammation is simply your body’s response to attempting to heal or protect itself.Your diet plays a huge role here.Detoxification - We work to support your body’s natural pathways of detoxification.Physical activity - Find activities that you enjoy, and go for it.Blood sugar regulation - Blood glucose that stays too high for too long or dip too low can cause all kinds of problems with cellular health.Progress in each of these areas can have a positive snowball effect on other areas. Books I mentioned:You Are a Badass and You Are a Badass At Making Money by Jen SinceroIf you’re looking for support in reaching your health goals, schedule a free 30-minute Coffee Talk here to see if we’re a good fit to work together.Connect with me on Instagram @joliverwellness! I’m excited to have my friends Dr. Brooke Weitz and Dr. Megan Anderson Saunders with me today. We’re going to chat about tapping into your intuition in order to navigate what is worth checking out, what isn’t, and how to deal with the information overload.Social media has grown a lot in recent years and fortunately, naturopathic medicine and techniques are getting more exposure than ever before, but it's hard to tell what's real and what's just an ad. Social media isn’t a good place to get answers, but it is a good place to formulate some questions, which you can then take to your doctor to sort out.The only magic bullet to really feeling better is consistency, listening to your body, and working closely with your medical team.Disclaimer:This podcast and website represents the opinions of Jeannie Oliver and her guests to the show and website. I’m thrilled to be talking with Nicole Field today. We went to high school together and reconnected over social media, and now Nicole is a certified Pilates instructor and somatic healer. Those paths came from her own needs to heal her body and mind from trauma and injuries. Nicole had suffered from panic attacks since she was a teenager and found that teaching pilates and working against the equipment was grounding, but talk therapy wasn’t getting to the root of the problem. Now, she works with somatic stress release therapy to help her clients move the stress and other trapped emotions through the body in order to do what is needed to heal, then release.Nicole will be offering exclusive packages to my clients to compliment their nutrition and lifestyle coaching work. You can also find more info about Nicole’s Somatic Stress Therapy work online at https://www.wholelivingsomatics.com/, on social media @Wholelivinghealing and by email at wholelivingsomatics@gmail.comhttps://www.wholelivingsomatics.com/ Check out her Pilates Studio in Colorado Springs in person or online at https://wholelivingpilates.com , and at @wholelivingpilates on social. If you’re looking for support in reaching your health goals, schedule a free 30-minute Coffee Talk here to see if we’re a good fit to work together.Connect with me on Instagram @joliverwellness! Have you ever felt like you were doing everything right, following all the instructions perfectly, but not getting the results you need? Today’s guest, Dr. Nicki Giandomenico, specializes in environmental medicine and chronic disease and she has some great insights as to why treatments may not be progressing as they “should.” Dr. Nicki asserts that everything you’re experiencing is a direct reflection of something you are energetically creating on the inside.Your body creates responses to emotional triggers all throughout your life. Those can be retriggered later on subconsciously, resulting in symptoms that don’t respond to typical treatment. There can also be a fundamental imbalance in your internal energy that is keeping the healing blocked from you. If you’re still living with a subconscious story that you are not worthy of having a comfortable life, then you won’t. In this episode, Dr. Nicki and I will talk about how necessary it is to balance your energies on all levels of our existence. The first step is to acknowledge how things are right now, and accept them. You can’t make change through resistance. All things heal together, just like all things shift out of balance together.Dr. Nicki Giandomenico is a licensed Naturopathic Physician and acupuncturist.  She completed both her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and Masters Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Bastyr University in Seattle; completing her Chinese Medicine program in China.Dr. Nicki specializes in environmental medicine, and chronic disease.  She is also a gifted intuitive and energy healer.  She practices in between Boulder, CO and Burlington, VT and offers telemedicine visits in select states. You can learn more about Dr. Nicki on her website at https://www.windrivermedicine.com/  She practices in Boulder, CO and Burlington, VT and also offers telemedicine appointments. If you’re looking for support in reaching your health goals, schedule a free 30-minute Coffee Talk here to see if we’re a good fit to work together.Connect with me on Instagram @joliverwellness! If you’re feeling run down but you can’t pinpoint why, if you moved into a new house and everything seemed to fall apart, or if everything feels stale, this episode is for you. I’ll be visiting with Amanda Gibby Peters about how the practical and metaphorical applications of Feng Shui can lead to major changes in your life.If we don’t take charge of our environment, our environment will take charge of us. Even something as simple as keeping a vase of flowers in the house can freshen up the space and start to move the energies in a more positive direction. If there’s something we’ve been putting off because we feel like we don’t have time to deal with it, the actual cost is that it wears on you over time and makes every facet of your life harder.Start small. Any progress is progress. If you try to tackle too many changes at once, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. The key to real change is feeling successful, so do that in tiny, incremental steps that you can keep up with. Remove resistance that’s in the way of the things you want to be doing.Amanda Gibby Peters is the voice and visionary of Simple Shui™ — a modern-day, mission-driven, love-based practice of Feng Shui. She’s been teaching Feng Shui techniques and tips for over a decade, witnessing the breathtaking life transformations of her readers and clients. She has a background in communications (she used to work on the Hill!) and has been called the “Martha Stewart” of Feng Shui. Her superpower is making complex, ethereal ideas tangible, fun and life-changing!  Her work has been featured on Architectural Digest, My Domaine, Food52, Lonny, MindBodyGreen, Well + Good and Amazon. She was recently named one of Instagram’s “Best Feng Shui Accounts” by The Spruce for her vibrant and innovative influence on creating positive spaces. Amanda is Dallas-based with an international clientele, where she lives with her husband, twin daughters, and their rescue dog, Ruby.Amanda will be offering exclusive packages to my clients to compliment their nutrition and lifestyle coaching work, and I also highly recommend her book Simple Shui for Every Day: 365 Ways to Feng Shui Your Life, and her latest online course, Become Your Own Feng Shui consultant.Simple Shui | home pageInstagram: @amandagibbypetersIf you’re looking for support in reaching your health goals, schedule a free 30-minute Coffee Talk here to see if we’re a good fit to work together.Connect with me on Instagram @joliverwellness! My guest today was Dustin Hassard, owner of Modern Athletics. Dustin is a strength and conditioning coach and massage therapist who enjoys teaching people how to build strength so they can meet the demands of life or sport, live PainFREE, and optimize their health regardless of age. He believes if we prioritize fitness, we can improve all aspects of our lives.Today, we’ll talk about the amazing benefits of weight training, and not just for increasing strength in muscle mass, but for increasing longevity and metabolism and even improving mental health. And don't worry, you don't have to become a gym rat to reap the benefits. Both of us have found that because we started our health and fitness journeys later in life, we relate to our clients more. It’s harder to relate to someone who is struggling if you have never struggled yourself. The misconceptions about strength training often get in the way as well. Lifting weights doesn’t have to be about body building, but so often that’s the perception. Strength goals vary from person to person, but there is strong evidence that increased muscle mass can slow down many processes that we consider normal aging.Dustin will be offering special packages to my clients in 2023, and you can learn more about him on his website at modernathletics.com, and on social media at the links below:https://instagram.com/modernathleticshttps://www.facebook.com/modernathhttps://www.youtube.com/c/modernathletics Also, the doctor I mentioned who’s name I couldn’t remember is Dr. Gabrielle Lyon. Join my conversation with client Genevieve Waldman. Genevieve is a very busy public relations executive and her attempts to meet with nutritionists in the past were unsuccessful because of her busy traveling lifestyle. The game changer for her was my 21-day anti-inflammatory detox program that I use with my clients. Once we had cleaned out the low-quality fuel from her system, she was able to learn how to strategically indulge. Strategic indulgence isn’t about depriving yourself. It’s about making nutritious choices so that when you have a luxurious dinner in Paris, you don’t feel like your entire diet is thrown off. Some of the things that we have both worked on to get to where we are today:Stop beating yourself upYou’re just one meal away from getting back on trackFood is not “good” or “bad”Ask for supportMake empowered decisionsThis same support is available for you. Here is the podcast episode I mentioned in the show:The Doctor’s Farmacy Episode 692 - How to Burn Fat, Heal Your Metabolism, and Live Longer with Dr. William Li: https://drhyman.com/blog/2023/03/22/podcast-ep692/You can read more about Jamie Oliver’s work here and view his TED Talk Teach Every Child About Food here. Applications are open for Body Liberation Together! Today I have a special guest with me. Marc David is going to talk to us about the psychology of eating and cultivating a healthy relationship with food. Early in his career as a nutritionist, he found that just changing the diet wasn’t addressing the real problems.Unfortunately, there was very little information about the psychology of eating back then. Today I happily welcome Genevieve Joy, quantum healer and certified master hypnotherapist, to talk about what hypnotherapy is, what it isn’t, and how it can be best put to use for healing and behavior change.Genevieve was born with thyroid cancer that went undetected until it was the size of a softball at the age of 11. Her whole life she dealt with extreme fatigue and pain from interstitial cystitis that would never go away, along with an abusive home situation. She made a conscious choice to dissociate from her body and numb herself as much as she could and become the world’s best people pleaser. After 14 years in an abusive marriage, she finally had enough, filed for divorce, and looked up all the strangest, most woo-woo methods out there to heal her physical and emotional suffering. During a particularly intense pain flare up, she tried a technique from quantum healing and within an hour, all her pain was gone and it has never come back. What she had done was deleted the neurology that created that pain and the emotional storm around it. Since then she has refined her technique so she can teach it to her clients so they can make changes at the unconscious level. This episode is full of wisdom about how quantum healing works, who it works best for, and how it’s done. You have to be willing to let go of your old identity and brave enough to do the work without blaming anyone. The degree to which you prioritize your own well-being is the degree to which you will be well.Learn more about Genevieve Joy:Website: https://www.iamgenevievejoy.com/Social IG and Facebook: @iamgenevievejoy Interested in working with Jeannie?Schedule a 30-minute Coffee Talk here.Connect with me on Instagram @joliverwellness!
