Gena, Jenn, and Joe are back from a slightly extended holiday break to talk patron saint of the pod Rose Byrne and her Oscar-nominated performance in writer/director Mary Bronstein's gruelling If I Had Legs I'd Kick You (2025).This film is *not* playing around: it is incredibly rough, but it is also effective and even necessary.Plus: Conan O'Brien's dramatic role, worrying about an affair with A$AP Rocky, and why Linda's husband and child are barely seen. A cure can be alluring – especially when your prognosis is only 6 months. In Mother of Flies, Lena is a young cancer patient who is surrounded by a religious family and community asking her to rely on prayers as her condition becomes more grave. This film also looks at how care becomes a dehumanizing task that can strip someone of autonomy, intentions be damned.Additional Reading: The Adams Family Talk Witchy ‘Mother of Flies’ and Finding Beauty in Life and Death. Welcome to the first episode of 2026! This is going to be a look at some of the horror films I found particularly unsettling, moving, and/or poignant – or just plain fun – in 2025. I couldn’t think of a better way to kick of the year with something easy and breezy to welcome us into a new year!Want to share your thoughts on what the next year of episodes should cover? Terry and Joe wrap up another series of Sexy & Surreal with a look at Caitlin Cronenberg's 2024 feature directorial debut, Humane. The Canadian film has a great cast of familiar faces, but as a satire, it doesn't have enough bite. There's plenty of potential here, and we're curious to see what Caitlin does next, but this doesn't quite come together.Plus: wrapping up thoughts on Caitlin, Brandon & Jennifer overall, and how the landscape has changed since their famous fathers started their filmmaking careers.Wanna connect with your co-hosts on Instagram & BlueSky?> Terry: @gaylydreadful> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)Theme Music: Roniit - "Purify"If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Discover more fabulously creepy Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad and follow the network on Instagram and BlueSky @aoas_xx Hosted on Acast. Terry and Joe tackle our final Lynch title as we discuss Jennifer Lynch's last film, 2012's Chained. From misguided accusations of torture porn to a bizarre 'twist' ending, this film is *interesting*. Still, the performances from Vincent D'Onofrio and Eamon Farren are outstanding, and the premise has plenty of promise.Plus: nature vs nurture, the film as play, and Lynch's "booked and busy" TV careerWanna connect with your co-hosts on Instagram & BlueSky?> Terry: @gaylydreadful> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)Theme Music: Roniit - "Purify"If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Discover more fabulously creepy Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad and follow the network on Instagram and BlueSky @aoas_xx Hosted on Acast. Gena, Jenn, and Joe wrap up another year of White Ladies in Crisis with the Doug Campbell Lifetime film, Stalked By My Doctor (2015).Starring an extremely campy Eric Roberts as a pervy cardiologist, we address the seriousness of the issue before acknowledging this film is just plain fun.Plus: survivor Sophie and her terrible/villainous boyfriend, useless parents, the most ridiculous dialogue, and the other titles in this franchise (?!?!)Wanna connect with the show on Bluesky and Instagram?> Gena: @genadoesthings> Jenn: @jennferatu> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Discover more dangerously good shows on the Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad and follow the network on Instagram and BlueSky @aoas_xx Hosted on Acast. Bodies of Horror chats about holiday classic Gremlins (1984), but Nichole is keeping the discussion centered on disability, caregiving, and failed systems of care. What begins as a chaotic holiday creature feature reveals deeper anxieties about dependency, rigid rules, moral panic, and who society deems “too much” to support. Gremlins asks whether the real horror lies not in difference, but in our refusal to build structures capable of sustaining it.Want to share your thoughts on Gremlines or suggest a film to cover? Terry and Joe descend upon Li Tolqa to discuss Brandon Cronenberg's third film, Infinity Pool (2023), which features a divisive Mia Goth performance (we *love* it BTW). It also has numerous intriguing storylines that meander a bit by the end, but perhaps that's the whole point?Plus: the downbeat ending; satire & politics; James as an emasculated dog; and anticipation for Cronenberg's new space-set filmWanna connect with your co-hosts on Instagram & BlueSky?> Terry: @gaylydreadful> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)Theme Music: Roniit - "Purify"If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Discover more fabulously creepy Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad and follow the network on Instagram and BlueSky @aoas_xx Hosted on Acast. For this episode, Nichole is taking a look at 2016’s The Autopsy of Jane Doe. A father-and-son coroner pair perform an autopsy on an unidentified woman and, as her secrets get revealed, she begins to represent so many bodies of horror, including bodies dismissed, bodies treated as inhuman, and bodies controlled. As the two men try to “help” her, they do so while using the tools that caused her pain and destruction in the first place.Want to recommend a film to be covered or share your thoughts on the film? For the second last Jennifer Lynch text, Terry and Joe are trying something different. Considering Hisss (2010) had a famously troubled production, we're also including director Penny Vozniak's documentary Despite The Gods (2012), which chronicles the making of the film. The doc is an essential part of the viewing experience in order to understand what happened in India and why Lynch doesn't claim Hisss as her own.Plus: praising star Mallika Sherawat and the practical snake effects, debating the broad comedy, and why George States doesn't work as a villain for us.Wanna connect with your co-hosts on Instagram & BlueSky?> Terry: @gaylydreadful> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)Theme Music: Roniit - "Purify"If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Discover more fabulously creepy Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad and follow the network on Instagram and BlueSky @aoas_xx Hosted on Acast. Get out of the lake and toss the flowers because Jenn, Gena, and Joe have re-entered the Oscar race with a look at Nia DaCosta's update of Ibsen's famous play, Hedda (2025).Starring a dazzling Tessa Thompson and a commanding Nina Hoss, this 1950-set all-in-one-night film race & queer swaps characters to breathe new life into the material. Helped by a propulsive score, *gorgeous* costumes and prowling camerawork, this one really worked for us!Wanna connect with the show on Bluesky and Instagram?> Gena: @genadoesthings> Jenn: @jennferatu> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Discover more dangerously good shows on the Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad and follow the network on Instagram and BlueSky @aoas_xx Hosted on Acast. Bodies of Horror is ending National Family Caregivers Month with a focus on “paid” or “professional” caregivers. This may include hospice nurses and others that help provide skilled or medical care when family caregivers need the support. 2005’s The Skeleton Key takes on weighty themes of generational trauma, racism and faith in the wrapping of a gothic ghost/haunted house story. Does it handle these themes well? Welp…Want to recommend a film to be covered or share your thoughts on the film? Joe and Terry are psyched to be back as we discuss our favorite Brandon Cronenberg film, 2020's Possessor.Featuring special effects that Cronenberg and cinematographer Karim Hussain spent years developing, as well a revelatory work from Andrea Riseborough and Christopher Abbott, this film is a total trip.Plus: ultra gory violence, a reticence to engage with queer readings, and *that* endingWanna connect with your co-hosts on Instagram & BlueSky?> Terry: @gaylydreadful> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)Theme Music: Roniit - "Purify"If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Discover more fabulously creepy Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad and follow the network on Instagram and BlueSky @aoas_xx Hosted on Acast.
