The societal pressure placed on mothers to be perfect, do it all, and prioritize everyone else's needs above their own is enormous. That's why it's essential to recognize and normalize talking about burnout, as many mothers often dismiss their exhaustion and disconnection as a part of the journey they have to manage alone. In this episode, I discuss the signs of burnout and offer valuable strategies to navigate and overcome it. This looks like asking for support, acknowledging the need for self-care beyond superficial practices, and reconnecting with one's sexuality and life force. I encourage you to let go of guilt and shame associated with prioritizing your well-being and reclaim the power to feel vibrant, alive, and turned on in your life. I hope you can use the practical techniques I share to process and transform the overwhelming energy of burnout. Conscious breathing, physical movement, and grounding practices have been essential to my own journey. Becoming a mother can be an initiation into an unfamiliar world; feelings like a loss of self and grief for one's former life may go unrecognized. Motherhood can often be a challenging transition and it’s important to recognize the grief that can accompany it. Feeling grief when becoming a mother is not uncommon or unusual. It is normal to feel overwhelmed by the shift in identity and lifestyle that can come with this type of change. That is why it is important to take time to sit with those uneasy feelings, ground yourself in the present moment and seek out resources that can provide validating support. In this episode I will share with you a grief ritual that has allowed me to navigate these feelings of overwhelm, uncertainty, and frustration, and turn them into a powerful elixir of change & new possibilities. When you become a mother change is inevitable, but this change doesn’t have to break you, it can be a path to a new identity, a new way of being, and a journey deep into the truth of who you are. Attempting to process all that is happening in the world can leave us feeling overwhelmed, complacent, or burned out. However, there is a method that can help to stay present in these uncertain times. In this episode of The Pleasurehood Podcast I share my Breathe, Move and Ground method that will allow you to connect to how you are feeling. I'm firm in my belief that emotions are more powerful than any of us realize. For far too long we have silenced ourselves, disregarded our feelings and treated emotion as bad or wrong. But through my embodiment journey, I have come to understand that emotions are a great source of power. They allow us to connect with what doesn’t feel right in our lives and society, enabling us to make tangible changes for creating a better future - both for ourselves and those who come after us. While breathing, moving, and grounding are often the last thing we think of doing in moments of uncertainty – creating a ritual or self practice of breathing, moving, and grounding can help solidify an affirmation of safety for ourselves. The truth is that parenting in this day and age isn't easy. We're all feeling the pressure of the post-pandemic world, trying to figure out how to stay afloat while managing all the things life throws at us. It can be overwhelming and exhausting, but know you are not alone in this struggle.  But we can also use this opportunity to create something better for ourselves. A way of living that helps foster connection and community, one that allows us to take a step back and look at the bigger picture while still managing our everyday lives. We can do this by taking time to check in with ourselves and prioritize self-care, as well as engaging with our communities and actively looking for ways to support one another.  Let's use this time of transformation as an invitation to rebuild, create something new, and move into a better era of parenting with purpose.  This season of the Pleasurehood Podcast will have us diving deep into the hard and sometimes uncomfortable conversations that we may have been avoiding. We are going to be looking at it from our individual perspectives while also exploring how the collective experience can be different. In this episode I have a conversation with one of my favorite people, my dear friend, the sensual alchemist herself, Dr. Sonali Deepika! In this episode I had the honor of sitting down with the amazing and brilliant Vangile Makwakwa. Vangile is the author of 3 books: Heart, Mind & Money: Using Emotional Intelligence for Financial Success and The Holistic Wealth Manifesto Workbook and The Next Level You Money and Womb Journal. She’s a full time entrepreneur and the founder of wealthy-money.com a company that helps women of color heal ancestral money trauma so they can fall in love with their bank accounts, increase income and live their best lives. Vangile is also the host of 2 podcasts: The Money Magic Podcast and The Property Magicians Podcast. She has been traveling for 15 years and has lived in over 12 different countries and has been building her company as she travels. In this episode Vangile and I go deep into the mother wound. I am relatively new to the mother wound concept, but once I began reading about it, I couldn’t stop. It’s such a powerful theory that addresses the pain and suffering that patriarchy has caused in most women when it pertains to motherhood. Women have been conditioned to think of themselves as “less-than” and not deserving or worthy. This feeling of “less-than” has been internalized and passed down through countless generations of women. Women are often taught to prioritize relationships above all else. We are taught that accessing our power will prevent us from forming meaningful connections with others, and this belief can manifest into a psychic limitation on who we want to be, disconnecting us from our true self. Becoming disconnected from the core of who we are can create distrust of our own needs, feelings, desires, gut instincts, and perception of reality. The distortion often manifests itself into behaviors such as codependency and people-pleasing. Vangile and I go deep into all of this, and so much more! What is your self love language? I believe it begins with making choices that are in alignment with who you are and building trust with yourself. We must be full in ourselves in order to find the love we desire, and by getting to know our inner selves deeply we can begin this process of cultivating self-love. Easier said than done, right? Realistically, living in self love can be as simple as embracing mundane moments and allowing yourself to become something new. It looks like loving yourself even when you feel stuck or messy. In truth, every small and simple action can be a ritual in itself. In this episode, I invite you to explore your own self-love language, whether that be yoga, lighting candles, praying or meditating, or any other everyday activity that you allow yourself to relish in. Ultimately it is about letting your inner self know that you are listening to it.

Feeling safe in the body involves physical, emotional, and energetic experiences of safety. And you get to define what that means to you.In this episode of the Body Love Series, I share my personal experiences of feeling safe and practicing hypervigilance, particularly in new environments. We get to reflect on the importance of setting boundaries, knowing when and how to communicate boundaries, and prioritizing one's well-being even if it means disappointing others. In my own health journey, I came to the realization that I hadn't been taking care of myself in a way that prioritizes my vitality and well-being. Like so many of us do, I was coping with burnout through unhealthy habits. The reality is health encompasses more than just physical well-being – it also extends to the emotional, spiritual, and energetic. In this episode, I offer techniques for understanding what causes energy drain and stress in our lives, and how to address those issues through pleasure and embodiment practices. You're invited to try the body scan practice, a tool that I have used to tune into the messages my body is trying to send. By focusing on simple sensations rather than attaching emotions or stories, you can better understand how your body communicates and deeply heal your relationship with self.

Appreciating how the body feels, rather than solely focusing on physical appearance, cultivates a more loving and intimate relationship with one's body. In a society that emphasizes the mind over the body, I encourage you to tap into your bodies' deep wisdom and intuition, acknowledging the transformative power of emotions and feelings.
