Have you ever felt like 6 months lasted 84 years? 👵
It’s been only 6 months since our last episode but everything changed.
Life updates: Paola had her world turned upside down by the arrival of the cutest baby ever. Naira turned her world upside down by moving to Portugal with 2 cute kids under 5. It has been crazy but the constant thing for both of us is the saudade (longing) to resume our podcast activities. It hasn’t been for lack of trying. It’s kind of a marathon to balance all of our plates but because we know you probably are going through life changes too (the only constant is change) we carved some time to record one episode in which we talked about what helped, what didn’t help in these chaotic times.
We really want to keep recording BUT we might be too ambitious (not to say delusional 😅) to come back full force yet. So we invite you to savor each minute of the newest episode “Navigating Life Changes as Immigrants”, and to share with us the changes you’re going through as well.
Get a hot drink, sit down and come talk to us. We miss you. Stay tuned because we will come back soon with much more (maybe not much, but more 😅).
ps: Paola edited this episode and didn't listen to it before publishing - let us know if we messed something up LOL
Sparkled by the comments from Rihanna’s performance at the 2023 Super Bowl, Naira and Paola talk about the challenges of motherhood as immigrants - how it affects their professional life, identity, and body. They peel layers of privilege, support system, domestic work and some more themes in between.

On this episode, we open up about our paths as immigrants and our journeys to embrace our positions as political persons, even in the face of not holding citizenship. We also discussed how this isn't a reason for us to not feel responsible or connected to the country.🗽
And, of course, we could not let the "big white elephant in the room" out of the episode: the upcoming implementation of new immigration laws in Florida.
This episode was inspired by the passionate responses we received from the previous episode🔝 and will be part of a series. Stay tuned, and let's keep the fight. All is not lost. There's hope that this situation will serve as a lesson, a reminder that the United States cannot thrive without the contributions of immigrants.🛠️🤝

Once an immigrant, forever an immigrant, even for the second, third, tenth generation? Even when you’ve blended in the new culture or not at all? What is the line of separation between our individual identity and the colective identity of the country we were born?
These were questions we discussed in this episode, that [as always] took us through many different reflections.

Studies show that immigrants play a key role in U.S. entrepreneurship and start businesses at a higher rate than their U.S.-born counterparts. But why is that? What are the pros and cons of owning your own business? What are the benefits and the downsides of working for a company?
In today's episode, we welcomed Andrea Oliveira, a senior recruiter who once also worked for herself on an amazing conversation about how immigrants choose their career paths.

In this episode, we talk about how we navigate the holidays being always from our home country!
We received some comments from the episode "Do immigrants need to work harder”, so we brought Raquel Peterson, an immigrant for 4 years, on to talk a little deeper about capitalism. How do we feel about it? Do we love it or hate it (or do we feel something in between)?
Note: Around the 19-minute mark, Paola discusses the differences between Capitalism and Socialism and makes reference to Democracy in a way that is not really correct/clear. We will explore these topics more in future episodes, but you can learn more about the different concepts here (http://www.wesleyanarcadia.com/fall-2019/2020/2/2/capitalism-socialism-communism-and-the-difference-between-social-democracy-and-democratic-socialism).

One of Naira's client's sent her a link to an article called "Stop saying ‘I’m sorry’ at work" and as soon as she shared it with Paola, they started to question some of the concepts there. Join us for a heated conversation about words and what they really mean.
Spoiler Alert: SORRY <NOT SORRY> we do NOT agree with this article

In this episode, we discuss revolutionary concepts on how important it is for minorities to go against the work-hard culture and signify what this all means for immigrants.
