Guitarist Lenny Ranallo and pianist Yolanda Tapia bridge classical and folk traditions in their upcoming recital of Latin American sonatas.

Diana Wyenn is the creative director for Interlochen's Imagine US: Celebrating America at 250 tour. Wyenn recently spoke with Classical IPR about her vision for the upcoming Imagine US: Celebrating America at 250 tour and how the program is bringing together all of Interlochen's arts areas to celebrate the past, present and future of the United States. The tour program includes the premiere of a new cello concerto, composed by Wynton Marsalis. The students are also performing the Symphony no. 4 by Charles Ives and RE|Member, a work by Reena Esmail. All of these pieces are woven together with multidisciplinary elements, presented by students called "devisors." In her role as creative director for the tour, Wyenn helped shape the program and worked with Interlochen Arts Academy students to create the multidisciplinary content linking the pieces of music. Interlochen Arts Academy's Imagine US: Celebrating America at 250 tour begins Saturday, March 7, 2026 in Interlochen with additional stops in Detroit, Philadelphia and Boston.

Clarinetist Katia Waxman, oboist Daniel Gurevich and pianist Ya-Ju Chuang played the final movement of the Trio for Oboe, Clarinet and Piano by Bill Douglas and spoke with IPR's Amanda Sewell. These three Interlochen faculty musicians will perform with guest flutist Alisa Smith in two recitals of woodwind chamber music with piano. The program features works by Eugène Bozza, Joseph Horovitz, Claude Debussy and Bill Douglas will be held on Saturday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Alluvion, part of the Interlochen in Town series. The musicians will also give an informal preview of the recital in the Music Center at Interlochen Center for the Arts on Thursday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m.

This year's Detroit Opera Resident Artists Brianna J. Robinson, Mia Mandineau, Cole Bellamy and Travis Leon Williams and Head of Music Nathalie Doucet visited IPR's Studio A during their annual residency with Interlochen Arts Academy students. The ensemble celebrates its tenth annual "Winter Songs and Carols" concert this month. Members Michael Beery, Sam Clark, Laura Hood, Lauren Murphy and Jeanmarie Riccobono visited IPR's Studio A to give a preview of the music on this weekend's concerts. They also spoke about the departure of Manitou Winds founder and artistic director Jason McKinney earlier this year and how they as an ensemble remain committed to their goals for the future.

Pianists, friends and Interlochen Arts Academy students Helen Nguyen and Kieran Alston brought music of Felix Mendelssohn, John Corigliano and George Gershwin to IPR's Studio A.

The Loch Ness Monsters perform in Studio A ahead of this Thursday's brass and percussion concert. They came to Studio A to discuss the unique quirks and challenges of playing with a chamber ensemble consisting solely of trombones.

From Carnegie Hall to the Metropolitan Opera, renowned baritone Gordon Hawkins has shared the operatic stage with Mirella Freni, Placido Domingo, and Grace Bumbry. His roles over his career have included title roles in "Rigoletto" and "Porgy and Bess," as well as Alberich in the "Ring" cycle, Baron Scarpia in "Tosca" and Marcello in "La boheme." He currently serves on the faculty at Arizona State University. He visited IPR's Studio A, where he reflected on his distinguished career and recorded Samuel Barber's "Sure on this shining night" with collaborative pianist Casey Robards.

Guitarist and Interlochen Arts Academy junior Paloma Chaprnka visited Studio A to give a preview of Sunday's concert with the TC Phil.

Violinist Blaise Sytsma-Reed, the 2025 winner of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra's annual Young Artist Competition, will be performing with the orchestra this weekend. She is a senior at Charlevoix High School and studies with David Reimer in the Dorothy Gerber Strings Program. Blaise visited IPR's Studio A to play her winning piece, the first movement of Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole, with collaborative pianist Ya-Ju Chuang. She spoke about how she balances music, sports, academics and life. She also talked about her eclectic musical tastes.

Viridian Strings presents string quartets by Joseph Haydn and Maurice Ravel, plus two world premiere performances of music by Ben Webster and by Cherie Van Maanen and Tom Childs.

Professional sitar player Will Marsh and the Integration Ensemble will bring global music sounds at the Alluvion and Oliver Art Center this weekend. Marsh joined us in Studio A along with members of the Integration Ensemble, including cellist Crispin Campbell and tabla player Josh Mellinger.

Superstar pianist Lang Lang first heard "Rhapsody in Blue" on the radio as a child and refined his performances with help from jazz greats Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. He'll perform it with Interlochen's World Youth Symphony Orchestra this weekend. He visited IPR to share his experience with teaching young musicians, from his classroom initiatives around the world to Interlochen students to his own son. What does a young classical musician need to succeed in the 21st century?
