Ian and Martin discuss the fascinating way how spiritualism and ghost hunting began - with a haunting in Hydesville, New York in 1888. The podcast discusses the original haunting and how it started spiritualism and ghost hunting. Topics covered include Poltergeist cases, Enfield Poltergeist, How Spiritualism Inspired a Northern England Revolution, Spiritualism as a social history and inspired the rise of Unions and the Suffragette movement.
The Podcast also discusses if the Fox Sisters were fake, the strain of fame on two teenagers and also the people such as William Crookes, Oliver Lodge and Arthur Conan Doyle who investigated and were involved in the start of paranormal investigation.
As a conclusion to the podcast, we discuss how Spiritualism provided a greater impact after the First World War, and how society could have been very different without it.
In this packed episode we discuss a listener's question, Does Spirit Know they are Dead? We discuss the differences between ghosts and spirits, the communication and the feelings of communicating with spirit. Anniversary ghost experiences at Dudley Castle, UK and the sighting of a ghost of a boy at Woodchester Mansion, one of Britain's most haunted houses. We then discuss if spirits and ghosts return to complete a task or have unfinished business - or whether it's folklore or religious influences. Ghosts are often thought of as being bound to the physical world by unfinished business, unresolved emotions, or spiritstraumatic death.

As mediums and commentators we look at Episodes 2 & 3 of the Netflix Series 'Surviving Death' - how was mediumship portrayed in the series, thoughts about the mediums themselves but also question the filmmaker's motives as well. Lots of questions and comments on social media have come from these two episodes, are they fair in their criticism? Are the mediums shown in the series fakes or real? And is the criticism levelled at the series actually how mediums have been dealt with in past - as easy targets?
In response to the Netflix series, 'Surviving Death' we repeat one of our first episodes in which Ian visits a Physical Medium similar to the one in the series. Ian has decades of experience as an observer of seances, circles and ghost hunts so is well aware of what fakery and natural human responses come into play. Ian attended a private sitting in Kent with other mediums and professionals.
