After a chance encounter leads Richard Blank to double down on his Spanish Communication major and move abroad, he must navigate his family's expectations, guilt, and fear of the unknown to find success and fulfillment in a new life.   "Fortune favors the brave. You have to be brave to at least start by looking in the mirror because a lot of people can't even look at themselves."   Richard Blank is a Philadelphia native who relocated to Costa Rica in 1997 to train employees for a call center. He has since become the CEO of Costa Rica's Call Center and has the largest collection of restored American pinball machines and antique jukeboxes in Central America.   Richard Blank was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia and decided to double down on his favorite Spanish class. This led him to a one in a million opportunity to work at a call center in Costa Rica, where he learned the industry from the inside out. Despite his family's guilt, Richard decided to move abroad and showed his family that his true life was something to be proud of. Through his Tortoise philosophy and his maturity, Richard was able to create something out of nothing and has been living an incredible life ever since. Despite the fear and apprehension, Richard has been brave and has lived life to the fullest, following his dreams and passions with no regrets.   In this episode, you will learn the following: Taking risks to pursue one's passions and live a fulfilling life, despite family guilt and expectations. The importance of empathy, loyalty, and dignity in any job or career. Living life with the "fool's" mentality, embracing the joys of the present and taking risks to achieve dreams.   Resources: Costa Rica's Call Center | Costa Rica's Call Center (costaricascallcenter.com) Richard Blank | Facebook Richard Blank (@RichardBlank) / Twitter Richard Blank - PRESIDENT AND BILINGUAL TELEMARKETING TRAINER - COSTA RICA'S CALL CENTER | LinkedIn Richard Blank (@richardblank44) • Instagram photos and videos Pinterest (Richard Blank) Richard Blank - YouTube   Other episodes you'll enjoy: S01E20 - Think & Grow You with Chris Felton | Carry On with Criselda S01E18 - Love Yourself Through Hobbies | Carry On with Criselda S01E16 - How to Deal with Intrusive Thoughts | Carry On with Criselda S01E05 - Letting Go of Perfectionism | Carry On with Criselda Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.    Let’s stay connected! In this episode, I am "editorless". Ah!!!! I explain the reason why. Therefore, I am winging it and growing in the process. I have talked before about the effects of perfectionism, so I am using what I've got and just going for it! I take the opportunity to give an update on a couple of changes to the podcast as well as future episodes to look forward to in terms of interviews. I also take a moment to offer some encouragement if you are going through a tough time right now and offer some motivation as well as some tools to use to help you get through it. I end by giving some inspirational quotes as well as a closing word on not allowing yourself to be victim to your circumstances.   Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.    Let’s stay connected! In your daily effort of working on your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to become a better version of yourself, do you sometimes find yourself tired?  Do you sometimes wish you could quiet the thoughts that keep you from the peace that you seek?  Consider a hobby to distract you, even for just a moment.  I will go over the many benefits that a hobby brings to your life and mind.  When you are immersed in a hobby you love, even though it doesn’t really feel like work (since it’s enjoyable), it actually is working toward your mental health.  It energizes your creativity and imagination and gives you a sense of purpose.  It also quiets our minds from the thousands of thoughts we have daily since hobbies can be meditative. If you don’t have a hobby, I’ll give you some ideas on different ones you can take up.  The important thing is to make time for your hobby.  Your mind needs an occasional break, and a hobby gives you the rest, peace, and clarity that you seek.   Lofi Girl on YouTube:  Tonion x xander. - Stories of Synergy 🍂 [lofi hip hop/relaxing beats] - YouTube Animal Crossing:  Animal Crossing series – Official Site (animal-crossing.com)   Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.    Let’s stay connected! Well, Valentine’s Day is a week away.  As lots of people who have a significant other will be celebrating with the usual swapping of cards, chocolates, flowers and balloons, others who don’t have a special someone and would like one may want to bury their heads under the covers and wish that the day would be over with.  In this episode, after a quick history on the holiday, I will go over how our mindsets will determine how we feel about any given situation, like Valentine’s Day.  It may help to remember that Valentine’s Day is just a day that happens to be recognized by society and led by consumerism, but nonetheless, just a day.  A percentage of people wouldn’t admit this, but if asked why they are participating at all, internally, they would say because it is expected of them.  This one day doesn’t make the realities of actual love any better because actual love is expressed everyday, not just on the 14th of February.  Therefore, this day shouldn’t make anyone who is alone and lonely, feel unloved.  For you are already loved, valued, and worthy not only on Valentine’s Day but everyday.   Go to https://betterhelp.com/cowc for 10% off your first month of therapy with BetterHelp and get matched with a therapist who will listen and help. #sponsored   Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo   Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.    Let’s stay connected! Intrusive thoughts are normal, and everyone has them. They can be triggered by stress, anxiety, and other factors, and can be a symptom of certain mental health conditions. The key to dealing with intrusive thoughts is to acknowledge them, let them pass, and practice self-compassion. In today’s episode, I will be going over this in greater detail and provide helpful tips and techniques for managing it.  Techniques like thought challenging, setting aside a designated worry period, practicing relaxation techniques, and challenging negative thought patterns. It's important to take care of yourself and seek support when needed. If intrusive thoughts are causing significant distress or impacting your daily life, it's a good idea to seek help from a mental health professional.   Go to https://betterhelp.com/cowc for 10% off your first month of therapy with BetterHelp and get matched with a therapist who will listen and help. #sponsored    Questions for Challenging Thoughts Challenging Automatic Negative Thoughts: 5 Worksheets (+PDF) By Joaquin Selva, Bc.S., Psychologist, March 16, 2018   Challenging Negative Automatic Thoughts: 5 Worksheets (+PDF) (positivepsychology.com)   Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.    Let’s stay connected! What is the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset?  In today’s episode, I will delve into the differences between the two.  I will go over the benefits of a growth mindset and how having one, helps to advance your goals whereas a fixed mindset, prohibits and limits your achievements.  It’s important to note that developing a growth mindset takes practice.  You should go easy on yourself and remember to take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and mentally.   It should be mentioned that this episode is brought to you with the help of ChatGPT.  Although it has been controversial in some circles, I thought I’d give it a try.  Although most of the text in this episode was produced by ChatGPT, not all of it is.  I used it to piggyback my own thoughts which I injected into the script.  As this is just an experiment, we’ll see how it goes.   Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.    Let’s stay connected! Do you like egoistic behavior?  Yeah, I didn’t think so.  Me neither.  It would seem quite easy to spot that kind of behavior in others.  Do you display any of it, yourself?  Oh yes, I just went there.  Just as we maintain our cars to ensure they run efficiently, we too, must maintain our attitudes and behaviors in order to be at our best.  Acknowledging the unsavory traits in ourselves is the biggest step to self-improvement.   Today, I will be going through a checklist of things that egotists do so that we can compare ourselves against it to see where we have room for correction.  I will also provide some suggestions on how to remedy it.  I’m glad you are here. :)   Check out my results to the ego checklist here. Today’s abbreviated episode will be about boundaries and how to set them.  We all have boundaries to some extent, whether we notice them or not.  I provide a little story of how I became acquainted with boundaries which instilled an awareness in me to never cross over other people’s boundaries or personal space.  Some people are more aware than others about the boundaries that we set.  It’s up to us to set a gentle reminder by speaking up for what we like and don’t like.  But first, we must take the time to think about what we will and will not accept, tolerate and allow.  Setting healthy boundaries are good for our mental and emotional states and are a good way to start off the new year.   Demised To Shield by Ghostrifter Official https://soundcloud.com/ghostrifter-official Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 Free Download / Stream: https://bit.ly/demised-to-shield Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/X2p2fIwjbIw   Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.    Let’s stay connected! S01E12 - Tabula Rasa

2023-01-0308:39

Tabula Rasa:  In psychology, the empirical theory that we are born without mental content and only receive knowledge through experiences and what we observe.  It can also be defined as a new start.   In this shorter episode, I will go over the importance of sloughing off old thoughts, ideas, and choices in order to adopt the new thing more effectively.  Whether the slate was wiped clean intentionally or not, it is an adjustment period and the beginning of something new.  Either way, be mindful about understanding the “why” of the new thoughts, ideas, and choices because it is the stuff that defines us. Seek, in this new year, to slough off the old and define who you are going to be in 2023. With the new year upon us, what would you like your 2023 to look like in terms of your emotional well-being?  Looking back on 2022, did you focus too much time on negative emotions, lending to unsavory outcomes that you did not intend?  Now’s the time to change your mind set by being attentive to any negative emotions you are engaged in and get yourself back to a balanced emotional state.  When searched online, most emotional scales show the neutral, stable, balanced state, as a state of contentment.  That’s the sweet spot to be in.  Like a pendulum, we swing back and forth from positive to negative emotions and back again.  However, in those times we are stuck in a negative emotion, recognizing it, we should aim to get back to that neutral state of contentment every single time.  Experiencing negative emotions is an unfortunate part of life, however, we must and should develop an unwavering tenacity to refuse staying there long and getting ourselves back to a balanced state of mind. Holidays, gatherings, and depression, oh my!  For some, it is only a reminder of the loneliness and sadness they endure while coping with what they are missing or can’t have.  Feeling down during the holidays can be due to loss of a loved one, a divorce or separation, or the mere fact that someone is unable to travel to their family, forcing them to spend it alone.  Today’s episode will visit these different causes and offer suggestions on how to get through it, but not in a way that just counts the days until it’s over.  Rather, it’s about changing your mindset to redirect the focus of loneliness or depression onto actually celebrating and thus, thriving. Show notes and transcripts are available there as well.   Let’s stay connected! Have you ever hit a wall or been let down by the unexpected?  Of course.  Most of us have.  What keeps us going?  Perseverance.  In today’s episode, I will offer nine points of motivation to keep on keeping on.  Plus, I mention three examples of well-known people who went through rough patches of their own, which did not stop them in the least to keep going.  Sometimes we all need to hear a word of encouragement to spur us on so that we don’t quit either.  Perseverance is what winners do to reap the rewards they seek.  So, tune in to get your fill of encouraging words for persevering.  Hey – I dare you to persevere through this episode!   Failure Doesn’t Suck (fastcompany.com)   Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.  Show notes and transcripts are available there as well.   Let’s stay connected! Are you an introvert or an extrovert?  What’s the difference?  Why is there a difference?  I, myself, relate more as an introvert which is why this will be more geared toward introversion as I can speak more to that.  However, extroverts are most welcome to listen as you may find you relate to some of the same things or you’ll gain a better understanding of what makes an introvert, an introvert.  Listen in today as I go over some typical traits, nine to be exact, of the introvert.  We’ll also learn why, introvert or extrovert – one is not better than the other.  They are simply different and the reason for that is in the brain. Show notes and transcripts are available there as well.   Let’s stay connected! In an effort to reach a higher level of ourselves, we must sometimes go through processes that are not so easy:  forgiveness of those who have wronged us.  How do we do that when someone really offends us or hurts us?  I will share quotes of prominent people in what they have to say about forgiveness.  I will also explain how forgiveness is for you and not the person who made the offense.  Sometimes it helps to understand that the other person who hurt you, may themselves be hurt.  It is also important to get to the real reason for forgiveness, which is to find freedom and peace within yourself. Show notes and transcripts are available there as well.   Let’s stay connected! Do you have a goal?  A big goal that you’re actively pursuing?  Or has the monotony of life gotten in the way, causing your goal to fizzle out?  Time to get re-motivated with ‘Your Big Why’.  In order to stay focused on your goals and not lose sight of them, we must declare to ourselves the reason why we want this goal in the first place.  It must be bigger than us and bigger than the goal.  It doesn’t just stop with the goal.  What or who will benefit from the outcome?  Knowing these things will help us when we run into obstacles or setbacks.  Instead of getting discouraged or doubting ourselves, remembering ‘Your Big Why’ will nudge us back on course.  Even better, writing the reason down as descriptively as we can, will give us something we can reflect on to keep our mindset right. Show notes and transcripts are available there as well.   Let’s stay connected! Are you the kind of person, when handling anything in life, whether it’s a small task or a big project, you hesitate or take way too long to complete if it isn’t just right?  Yup, you’re probably dealing with perfectionism.  In today’s episode, I talk about the mental rollercoaster of thoughts that I knew I had to deal with in order to start this very podcast.  From trying to over prepare which could’ve caused me to hesitate to take the leap, to being fearful of what people might think.  Understanding that you just have to take that initial step and keep moving is the key to overcoming perfectionism.  It may be messy at first, but at least you’re making progress which is what counts.   Jon Levi’s channel (1) JonLevi - YouTube   Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo   Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.  Show notes and transcripts are available there as well.   Let’s stay connected! In this episode of Carry On with Criselda, I share my personal journey from being unsatisfied and ungrateful with my situation as it pertained to my possessions to a better understanding of gratitude through letting go of said possessions.  It was in this challenging process of giving away my stuff and donating it that made me realize just how blessed I am in the things I have. It must be mentioned that the actions shared in this episode are in no way meant to imply that this is what you must do in order to experience or achieve gratitude.  We each have our own journey that we must follow.  It will look different for everyone. Be encouraged and inspired, that the difference of being unsatisfied to having a heart of gratitude is a more fulfilling and enriching life.   The Minimal Mom’s channel (1) The Minimal Mom - YouTube   Music: Believer by Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Wr0hLgVkpEo   Please follow this podcast, rate the show, and share with someone so that we can continue to spread encouraging messages to all who could benefit from it as they carry on with daily life.  Also, if there is an option in your podcast app to leave a comment, please drop us a line.  We'd love to hear from you.  You can also comment on my website, carryonwithcriselda.com.  Show notes and transcripts are available there as well.   Let’s stay connected! Overwhelm!  Ugh!  How do you deal with it?  Do you have a plan of action when it hits?  Do you even recognize when you are feeling overwhelmed?  Sometimes we are so overwhelmed we don’t even realize we are because we are so focused on our tasks that we kind of tune out how it’s affecting us. S01E02 - Drop the Lies

S01E02 - Drop the Lies

2022-11-0213:51

What kinds of thoughts about yourself run through your mind on a given day?  Are they positive, empowering thoughts that give you the confidence and self-esteem you need to be you?  Or are they negative, cutting thoughts that disempower you and lead you to believe the worst in yourself?  Did you know you don’t have to indulge in a negative thought just because it entered your mind? In this episode, I discuss how disempowering thoughts about yourself are lies and how you can make a decision to change that, even though you may not believe it.  I will share how you can make an affirmations list and use it to your benefit through a recalibration technique that will help you pivot your thinking from disempowering to empowering. Show notes and transcripts are available there as well.   Let’s stay connected!
