“Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned”
William Butler Yeats, “The Second Coming,” 1919
This piece is a sonification of the final moments of Joan of Arc’s here-and-now existence, as portrayed in The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928).
It follows the procession leading her to the stake, and her appeal to God for safe passage — free from suffering.
The call expressed in this piece is not directed toward God — and yet, it calls out nonetheless.
Calling into the void. Calling the unknown.
Death — one of the most mysterious transitions, whether into non-existence or into one of the afterlives proposed by various religions.
A passage, nevertheless.
This unknown is often aesthetically framed by culture.
Graveyards, for instance, not only offer a resting place for the dead; they also provide a frame for the unknown that death embodies — soothing, perhaps, in the sense that death lies beyond experience.
Aesthetically, this piece borrows from black metal — a genre that often revolves around death, giving it shape, sound, and landscape.
This musical work is a sonic framing of that unknown.
BIO
ALY-X, the solo moniker of artist Aleyna Günay.
She works with sound, sculpture, installation, performance, and writing, and critically examines power and control, exploring how these forces shape and influence systems and individuals.
Since starting her project ALY-X in Paris in 2018, where she collaborated with artists from the scene, she has performed at venues such as LUFF, cave12, Palace, and Karmen Camina in Switzerland and Europe. Her recent exhibition was shown at CAN Centre d’art Neuchâtel as part of Plattform 25.
ALY-X is a reflection of perpetual violence. Her new project, Malrine, emerged to shed light on that violence. She combined both projects on this record, alongside Gotgha.
Gotgha (aka Luc Häfliger, they/them) is a Zurich-based composer, performer, and sound artist.Their practice revolves around the question of how we can recode space through sonic experience.
Through the lens of noise, they explore sonic and performative states in which the boundaries between control and ecstasy become fluid. Their works seamlessly weave together composition and improvisation.
They are a founding member of doxa shroti, a collective that organizes monthly guerrilla concerts in underpasses—acts of listening and community-building within Zurich’s experimental music scene. As a collaborator, Gotgha regularly performs and composes alongside Joseph Baan, maintaining an ongoing dialogue with Baan’s performance and visual arts practice. They also work closely with Margaretha Jüngling, creating sonic environments for her multisensory performances. Gotgha’s work has been presented in both national and international contexts, including les Urbaines, Drifts Festival Helsinki, Kunsthalle Zürich, Kunsthalle Baselland, Tanzhaus Zürich, ZKM Karlsruhe, LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura, and various performances in Yogyakarta and Taipei.

Title: IN BETWEEN VIBRATION-S
co-production: Giulietta and Lumpen Station
supports: Pro Helvetia, FSRC - SWISSPERFORM
Vibration that exists in sound related to the degradation in color and Nature
The experience that we want to talk about through our sound composition is the space in between vibrating waves, where the in-between sound, its waves or vibrations are found in different intensities in color, relating the space that sound occupies (and the fading of such) to the degradation of color that exists from one color to another. We also can find this “in betweenness” in Nature when the Wind talks and whistles their numerous symphonies
The sound is divided into three movements and we interacted with self recordings from the wind, an harmonica played by the wind, a piano, its sounding board, a flugelhorn and a drum set.
BIOs
Elena Matamoro
Elena Jones, is a multidisciplinary artist and composer from Vigo, Galicia (1997).She studied Fine Arts in Pontevedra and in Lisbon. After her studies was recognised as one of the winners of Novos Valores, this made her live in The Hague for two years and produce different projects collaborating with different musicians she met along the way. After this she could do her Masters in Art Gender and Nature at HGK, FHNW, Basel, where she is still living and working. She did different Art Residencies in Iceland and Mexico, developing different specific projects for each place. She focuses in sound even though her works always have a visual base, where nature and theoretical music, imagination, and poetry come along and have their own way of existence in the investigation that she has been following for at least seven years, called, ‘The look that listens’

Title: Mourning wind, we couldn’t hold for long enough
co-production: Giulietta and Lumpen Station
supports: Pro Helvetia, FSRC - SWISSPERFORM
Love is life and living is loving. loving inbetween shows us capsules of isolated loves. bubbles of caught emotions, when sincere meaning of love was unintentionally expressed, a let out and release of matters from our body without the curation of our mind and the control of our lived experience. ‘mourning wind, we couldn’t hold for long enough’ incapsulates various complex glimpses of true emotions within gripped feelings and unconscious experiencing.
with ‘mourning wind, we couldn’t hold for long enough’ we ache for the out-bursts of cries without knowing the tears.

Nearest pond - You... made the burrow bloom
Encounter in a cave. Encounter in a field. Encounter through a window. Encounter in an ear. Half-encounter. Harvest encounter. Encounter cut short. Encounter in the dark. Encounter in a grove. Shaggy encounter. Recorded encounter. Repeated encounter. Encounter under a paw. Encounter in a hole. Holy encounter. Jolly encounter. Encounter in your head. Encounter anyway. One-way encounter. Waiting for an encounter. Smell of an encounter. Encounter in a nook. The seeds of the present encounters are planted while the past encounters are painted in panic.
Nearest pond is a collective entity. Through a variety of forms, including installation, sculpture, sound, and image, their practice explores multiple agencies and space-times that unsettle human perspectives, using speculative narration as a main tool.
