Description

Where Art & Grief Meet is an exploration of the space where the creative spirit mingles with grief, loss and adversity.

Sophia, a compulsive artist who has experienced her own fair share of adversity and grief, talks with a range of notable and passionate creatives (visual, writers, musicians, entrepreneurs) to reflect and share observations and responses to the question of how their art practice is impacted by the slings and arrows of a life, acknowledging of course that grief comes in an infinite number of shapes and forms: personal and global and everything in between.

There is no hierarchy of grief here. Loss, in this context, is viewed as an inevitable part of life and a prism through which we explore artistic practice and expression.

Sophia is interested in building a space where creatives can openly discuss their observations, their stories and the resulting strategies in order to alleviate isolation, make broader connections and create a supportive community.

Ep.9 Tim Rogers

Ep.9 Tim Rogers

2022-11-0754:09

Episode 9 Tim RogersTim Rogers gives his audience the impression that he's leaving nothing in reserve when he puts on a show. His authenticity and energy is something I have admired for decades. So I literally did a happy dance the day Tim agreed to talk to me for Where Art and Grief Meet. I. Did. A. Jig.Although I had prepared a list of questions and themes in advance of our conversation, it all flew out the window when we sat across the ether and chatted about creativity and grief and the benefits to the troubled heart and soul of a creative spirit.Tim and the Twin Set have just finished recording a sequel to his brilliant album, "What Rhymes with Cars and Girls". It's called "Tines of Stars Unfurled", which will be released on 24 February 2023. I am keenly standing by for it as "What Rhymes with Cars and Girls" has been on high rotation in the soundtrack of my life for years. The bluesy fiddle reminds me of my brother and there's nothing that isn't perfect about that.Tim's website is here.More infö about Where Art and Grief Meet is here and my daily art uploads are plentiful and here. Please feel most welcome to indicate an interest if you'd like to participate in the project or if you have feedback at the links directly above. To support the project through Patreon or make a once only donation Paypal.Thank you to BlueAnt for the tech. and Dallas Cosmas for the music.Next episode is No 10 in a fortnight.

Episode 8This episode has been a little delayed. Apologies.Creativity is an intrinsic part of Garry Moore's expression. He has worked with a camera in hand for almost 40 years, mostly in the commercial space, but has always been able to find ways of expressing his creative compulsion no matter what.Garry and I talk about his creative background and what value creativity lends to his life. He discusses his creative process, and talks about how his awareness and intent lends value to his personal pursuits and experiences.Garry's website contains some artistic jewels as well as a catalogue of his commercial work. I urge you to look, particularly at Thanatos, which is a series of images he describes the process of creating in this episode. . Garry and his talented wife and partner, Veronica own and run production agency Miss Bossy Boots.More infö about Where Art and Grief Meet is here and Sophia's daily uploads are plentiful and here. Please feel most welcome to indicate an interest if you'd like to participate in the project or if you have feedback at the links directly above. To support the project through Patreon or make a once only donation Paypal.Thank you to BlueAnt for the tech. and Dallas Cosmas for the music.Next episode is No 9, next week..

Ep.7 Marina Strocchi

Episode 7I felt very privileged to meet Marina Strocchi and thrilled all over again when I had the chance to revisit our conversation to edit this episode.Marina is an artist whose work I have loved for well over a decade, What was unbelievably special was that when I approached her for a chat I really only the most cursory idea of her story and none of the depth of her insight into artmaking and its relationship to healing and growth, particularly in Australia's remote indigenous communities.Marina has a terrific website and you can follow her on instagram. The link to the short film about her Survey show is here. You can find more information about The Ikuntji Artist community she was instrumental in establishing on their website and instagram. The Ikuntji Book can be found second hand.Enjoy!More infö about Where Art and Grief Meet is here and Sophia's daily creations are here. Please feel most welcome to indicate an interest if you'd like to participate in the project or if you have feedback at the links directly above. To support the project through Patreon or make a once only donation Paypal.Thank you to BlueAnt for the tech. and Dallas Cosmas for the music.Next episode is No 8, in around a fortnight.
