In this weeks quicky of the Self Love Podcast, Kim explores how difficult life circumstances can serve as opportunities for growth and self discovery rather than signs of weakness. She shares practical steps for managing challenging emotions and emphasises the importance of resilience, suggesting that pain can be a catalyst for personal development and the cultivation of empathy. Kim encourages us to be kind to ourselves during messy times and to share our experiences with others, highlighting that while pain doesn’t have to define us, it can guide us toward meaningful growth.

Quotes:
There is nothing wrong with you for feeling overwhelmed, disappointed, sad, tired or heartbroken.
Pain is not a sign of weakness. It is a signal. Pain is information.
We have to feel it to heal it.
Instead of asking, why is this happening to me? We could gently shift the question to “what is this asking of me”?
Your pain can become a barometer and it does show you when something really matters deeply or when a boundary has been crossed.
Resilience is not built by pretending things are fine. It is built by really feeling it.
By staying present and by choosing not to abandon yourself in these tough or hard moments.
I realise that my struggles are not detours. They are actually training grounds.
Your honesty and vulnerability gives others permission to truly feel and share.
Your survival, your story, becomes a beacon for someone else’s hope.
Ask what this is actually asking of me.
Self love is not about having it all together. Sometimes it is just messy.
You don’t need to have the whole story figured out to be inspiring. You just need to keep showing up with an open heart.
Trust that even now, something meaningful is being formed within you.

In this powerful episode of the Self Love Podcast, Kim speaks with Sabeel Burgess, survivor, advocate and founder of Open Haven to share a story of resilience that spans continents and generations.
Born in Bangladesh during political unrest and later displaced across India, the UK, and eventually Australia, Sabeel’s early life was shaped by trauma, abandonment, identity loss, and homelessness at just sixteen. Along the way, she uncovered hidden family truths and began to understand how deeply generational trauma and early adversity can shape our nervous system, relationships and sense of self.
In her mid-twenties, Sabeel experienced a pivotal awakening, recognising that what she had endured was not normal and choosing to begin a conscious journey of healing. That decision transformed her life and ultimately led to the creation of Open Haven, a Brisbane based postcrisis organisation supporting women and children escaping domestic violence.
Open Haven bridges the critical gap between crisis accommodation and long term independence, offering transitional housing and holistic support including financial mentoring, practical assistance and ongoing guidance to help women rebuild their lives sustainably. With a compassionate and structured model, the organisation is helping break cycles of abuse and creating real pathways to freedom.
This episode is a moving conversation about survival, self-love, healing generational trauma, and turning personal pain into purposeful impact.
About Sabeel:
Sabeel is the founder of Open Haven and a lifelong advocate for women and children.
Shaped by her own lived experience of domestic violence, she transformed adversity into action, recognising a critical gap in support once survivors leave crisis and begin rebuilding their lives.
With a background in teaching and close work alongside social services and child protection, Sabeel saw firsthand how many women were left without guidance, community, or long-term support. A natural problem-solver and researcher, she established Open Haven in 2017 to address what was missing: post-crisis care that restores dignity, stability, and hope.
For Sabeel, this is not just work, it is purpose. Seeing women reconnect with community and thrive affirms her belief that lasting change is possible when survivors are supported beyond survival and into new beginnings.
Her definition of Self Love is: Self love is not extravagant or indulgent it is choosing safety and resting when it says stop. It is setting boundaries even when things are uncomfortable.
Her favourite quote is from: Rest is not a reward it is a responsibility.

I think there is so much power in story telling.
I often wonder why, why did I survive?
That was my entrance to the world.
From an early age I experienced quite a lot of trauma.

I am a woman of faith and I do believe I have a .
Open haven was born because of the adversity and difficulty that I experienced.
I remember feeling an incredible sense of Abandonment.
I lost culture, language and identity.
It was a time of difficulty but growth.
People provided a framework of support.
We all want to be seen. We all want to be loved. We all want to belong and most importantly we want to feel safe.
What I considered normal was not normal, it was a pivotal time.
There were days I didn’t want to get out of bed but I had to face it.
It is a journey and never linear.
You are choosing to go forward. Every day is a choice.
I needed time to heal.
I always loved community.
It is looking after every aspect of their lives and providing support.

In this powerful episode of The Self Love Podcast, Kim speaks with Peter Norris, author of The Bank Robber’s Boy, a deeply moving memoir about growing up as the son of one of Australia’s most notorious bank robbers.
Peter shares his journey from a childhood marked by abandonment, trauma, and instability to becoming a successful CEO, athlete and advocate for kindness and personal responsibility. He reflects on pivotal moments that shaped his resilience, including a life changing decision at just 11 years old to stop blaming others and take ownership of his emotional world.
Together, Kim and Peter explore self love, forgiveness, courage and the profound impact of small acts of kindness. They discuss modern masculinity, emotional expression, relationship dynamics and the challenges facing young men today.
Peter also draws powerful parallels between athletic performance and personal growth, reminding us that we are capable of far more than we believe. This episode is a moving reminder that while we can’t choose our beginnings, we can choose who we become, through courage, compassion and everyday acts of kindness.
About Peter:
At thirteen, Peter Norris made the kind of call that defines a life. His father was a career criminal – Australia’s Most Wanted, to be exact. His brother? Cut from the same cloth. Grandfather? Same story. Crime was the family business. Chaos, the inheritance. But Peter wasn’t here to follow a legacy. He was brave enough to rewrite it. He walked away from the only life he’d ever known – and built a new one from the wreckage.
Forged on courage, not crime. On leadership, not lineage. A road paved with bold moves, not bloodlines. Raised on the run, Peter learned early… Read the room. Make tough calls under pressure. Stay calm in chaos. That instinct didn’t fade – it became his superpower. Today, he’s the CEO of a multimillion-dollar hospitality group. A people-first influence in an industry defined by burnout. Foster carer. Elite athlete. Best-selling author of The Bank Robber’s Boy.
Peter doesn’t just talk about transformation. He is transformation. And when he speaks, he doesn’t just motivate. He moves people. From executives to entrepreneurs, middle managers to frontline teams, Peter has this uncanny ability to cut through the noise and tap into something deeper – the part of us that already knows we’re capable of more.
His delivery is raw, honest, and impossible to ignore. He speaks with street-smart wisdom and lived experience – on courage, choice, kindness and the brutal beauty of becoming who you were never supposed to be.
His message is simple. And it hits like home: You don’t choose the hand you’re dealt. But you’ve got the power to play it like a winner. Peter Norris doesn’t point to what’s possible. He gives you the guts to go after it.
His definition of Self Love is: Self love is forgiving myself when I make dumb decisions. Letting myself dream big! Trusting my own worth.
His favourite quote is his own quote: The life you seek is discovered in the brave choices you are willing to make.

Quotes:
In my first 13 years there were so many adventures and so much trauma, so much happiness and also so many tears.
I never become judgmental on what people perceive as tough.
We all have different or varying tolerance for difficult moments and resilience.
My Dad despite really poor choices was a beautiful Dad in terms of being loving, caring, nurturing and protective.
My Dad had been through similar experiences whilst incarcerated as I had and I saw the product of that in him.
I just said no more I would not be controlled. I would not let other people’s actions control how I feel.
I just took my life into my own hands and decided that my mindset would be different.
I had these little breadcrumbs of kindness throughout all this trauma.
I have this capacity to put my mind to something and just be relentless until I achieve it.
I meet people every day who say I wish I could make this decision I wish I could do what you have done.
Young men are so focused on self preservation that they are probably not in tune with everything around them. Which is a hard skill as a young man.
It is amazing how many people are sitting in the I’m not getting what I want out of life.
Just listening to young men, there are so many issues I see at the moment, they are just so confused.
When someone like me with lived experiences can step into this space and say, I know clearly what you are going through, it is a really different conversation.
Being kind is a big part of it and not judging anybody on their own experiences or their poor decision making.
My book has ended up being a source of reflection and insight for so many.
To be seen, recognised and appreciated is huge.
Start with small acts of kindness. You just don’t know the impact you may have.

In this week’s Self Love Podcast Quicky, Kim invites you to approach the new year with compassion, simplicity and self trust. Rather than setting goals from pressure or external expectations, she encourages choosing intentions based on how you want to feel and what you truly want to give yourself.
Kim explores self love as a daily practice of listening to and honouring the body’s wisdom. She reframes tiredness, emotions, and the need for rest as powerful messages, reminding us that our bodies are always communicating what they need to heal, restore, and thrive. By softening self judgment and embracing kindness, we can support our nervous system and create more balance hormonally, emotionally and energetically.
Through personal reflections and grounding rituals, Kim highlights the importance of self-trust, inner resources, and honouring your natural rhythms, even during times of uncertainty. She reminds us that self love is not a destination to reach, but an ongoing journey of awareness, care and conscious choice.

Quotes:
Every year, every breath, is a fresh start.
Every pause you take in life is an opportunity to reset.
Your body is speaking to you softly, wisely, honestly.
Setting intentions isn’t about forcing change. It is about choosing how you want to feel.
It is not about what the world wants from me, but what I need.
When you set an intention from love rather than pressure, your nervous system will soften.
Your hormones respond to safety, not stress. Your body responds to kindness, not criticism.
I choose to listen. I choose to honour my rhythm. I choose to trust my body.
Everything is a messenger, guiding me toward balance, rest, nourishment, movement or truth.
When you feel tired, it is not weakness. It is your body’s wisdom.
Self love means releasing the guilt around rest.
Your beautiful body knows what it needs to do to heal, recalibrate, renew when you create the space for it.
You do not have to have it all figured out. You just need to come home to you.
Every moment is a new moment.
Self love is not a destination. It is a daily practice of listening, trusting, and choosing yourself.
Take the time this year to honour you.

In this powerful and deeply honest opening episode for the year, Kim is joined by Kylie Pinwill, women’s health nutritionist and founder of My Hormone Hub, to explore the truth about hormones, burnout, perimenopause, and what self love really looks like in a woman’s body and life.
Kylie shares her personal journey from practising as a nutritionist in Sydney, to selling everything and travelling Australia with her family after confronting life changing losses, to hitting burnout while rebuilding life and business on the Sunshine Coast. It was through her own health collapse that Kylie uncovered a startling truth: women are not educated or supported through the 10 year hormonal transition leading up to menopause.
Together, Kim and Kylie explore the impact of stress on women’s health, why so many women feel dismissed or “gaslit” during this stage of life, and the importance of proactive, holistic care. This episode reframes self love as the daily commitment to nourishment, rest, movement, and boundaries, reminding women that investing in their health is not selfish, it is essential.

The Present Day Wise Woman Podcast with Jennifer Jefferies
Midlife isn’t a cloak of invisibility and in this inspiring episode, Kim Morrison calls absolute BS on the tired narrative that women fade as they age. Joining her dear friend and fellow truth teller Jennifer Jeffries, Kim shares why she has never subscribed to the idea of becoming “invisible,” and how deep respect for older women, intentional rituals, mindset, and self-care are the foundations of vitality and confidence.
Together, Kim and Jennifer explore reframing ageing, redefining beauty, and stepping fully into being seen without apology. They speak candidly about rejecting limiting societal beliefs, embracing self-worth and the sparkle that comes from living authentically. This is a raw, real, joy-filled conversation between two wise women and great mates — and one you’ll absolutely love

Quotes:
Our hearts are full, full of gratitude, full of hope, and full of deep love for this incredible community that continues to grow alongside of us.
It has never just been a business. It has always been a living, breathing extension of who I am, who we are, our values, our family, our belief in self love is the daily practice, not the destination.
The relationship we share, as women, as leaders, as a mum and daughter, it is a foundation. It is everything I have ever created.
We have had hard conversations, big dreams, bold visions, and moments where we have just had to trust each other deeply.
That is the bond of me and my daughter’s strength, and it’s the energy that flows into every product, every program, every intention we set.
This is not a year to play small. This is a year to move with real integrity and purpose.
The horse represents freedom, momentum, courage, stamina, and forward movement.
It is about trusting your instincts, backing yourself and having the bravery to move when your soul whispers now.
When we align heart, body, and mind and commit fully, we create incredible momentum.
Choosing a word for the year gives your nervous system clarity, your mind direction, and your heart permission to move forward with intention.
Let it choose you and live it. Live it in your rituals, your choices, your boundaries, and your self talk.
Our vision is to support you to feel empowered in your body, confident in your choices and deeply connected to your heart and self worth.
Uncommon Leadership isn’t just a program, it’s a 12 month journey of self responsibility, clarity, courage, and conscious leadership.
This program is for those who know they are here to make a difference.
Opportunities do not sit around and wait for someday.
Here is an invitation to let 2026 be the year you say yes to yourself.
I choose to move forward with clarity, courage and self love.
Imagine your year unfolding step by step, choice by choice guided by your word, supported by your body and led by your heart.

In this reflective end of year episode, Kim and Tayla join Marcus Pearce to discuss their evolving business partnership, generational perspectives on self-love and the unique dynamics of working together as mother and daughter. They explore how age, experience, and energy influence leadership, marketing and client relationships within their wellness business, Twenty8.
Kim shares what it has been like welcoming Tayla into the family business and witnessing her resilience and career evolution, while Tayla reflects on her journey from dance and fitness into business and personal growth. Together, they speak openly about motivation, communication, and the balance required to build a meaningful legacy.
The conversation also dives into what self-love truly means from self-respect and healthy decision making to navigating burnout, change and life transitions. Honest, warm and inspiring, this episode is a powerful reminder of the value of resilience, growth and creating a self-care lifestyle that supports both personal and professional fulfilment.
Tayla’s definition of Self Love is: Self love means you have self respect and what that looks feels and sounds like for you.
Her favourite quote is: If 2025 was about shedding, 2026 is about soaring!
Kim’s definition of Self Love is: Self love is the honouring and the return to self.
Her favourite quote is: If there is light in the soul, there is beauty in the person. If there is beauty in the person, there is harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there is peace in this world.
Quotes:
I have always thought of this as a family business.
LFG-which is let’s freaking go.
2025 has been quite a personally challenging year, I would say lots of highs and lows.
I was quite comfortable. And I was just like, you know what? There is no growth in this. I need something, I need something better.
It didn’t even feel like it had to be a decision. It just felt like a natural calling.
I was really happy and honoured that one, Mum offered me the position and two that we could create this beautiful legacy together.
There was a symbolic relationship between me wanting it and company needing it.
Watching her really grow through something that had really shattered her world was very inspirational.
I started watching her evolve as a businesswoman.
It is not just about making money, it is not just about having a job, it is actually really about making a difference.
We are not a family that sits back.
I need to constantly be stimulated and be doing something.
People don’t care, and I say this with love, but they don’t care what you are going through.
This woman has saved my soul.
It is not about being the superhero, it is about actually allowing yourself to grow with the support and grace of those around you who truly do love support and care for you.
There is no BS with us. There is also the softness and the beauty.
She has been my greatest mirror, my greatest coach and my greatest support.
It feels really wholesome. It feels so right.
Twenty8 is not just about skin care and aromatherapy. It is about creating that self-care lifestyle.
I have always said that to have self love means you have self respect.
If I do something that goes against that, I feel like I am disrespecting myself.
You can still love yourself and still want to change some things about yourself.
At my age here and now, I truly do believe self love is truthfully the practice of returning home to oneself.
Aging badly is the relentless pursuit of comfort.
You are either on the train of life or you are watching it go by.
Aging is a gift denied to many.
I couldn’t live with the downside of letting it go.
You are allowed to change. You don’t have to stay as you are.
Your self love journey will look different at every age.
I would love everyone to feel that spark in themselves.

Quotes:
At this time of year, there is often a quiet assumption.
Every year I feel that people believe everyone should feel joyful, connected, celebratory, and full.
For some, the season is filled with laughter, family gatherings, shared meals and traditions and for other it carries grief, loss, change and empty chair.
If this Christmas feels tender to you. You are not broken, behind or alone.
Sometimes the bravest thing we can do at a time like this is to simply keep our hearts open in the midst of change.
Christmas invites us into connection, not just with others, but most importantly with ourselves.
Place one drop of essential oils into your palms and then rub them together, place over your heart and belly and take three deep breaths.
Use frankincense for peace, perspective, and spiritual connection. Lavender to calm the nervous system. Orange for lightness and joy. Sandalwood for grounding, safety and deep presence and rose, if you need pure love and heart healing.
Christmas isn’t just about perfection.
This season isn’t asking you to be more. It is inviting you to be true.
Love the people you have, remember those you miss, celebrate what is growing and honour you beautiful soul and the incredible resilience that lives within you.

In this deeply nourishing conversation, Kim welcomes Ruth Hull, a former investment banker turned reflexologist, homeopath, and author of Drowning Lifeguards. Ruth shares her remarkable journey from high pressure corporate life to natural therapies, shaped by her own experience with chronic fatigue and burnout.
Together, Kim and Ruth explore the body’s subtle language, the emotional roots of fatigue, and how modalities such as reflexology, homeopathy, essential oils, and self-reflection can support healing. They discuss the integration of conventional and alternative medicine, the unique traits of high-achieving individuals prone to burnout, and why self-love is not a destination, but a daily, living practice.
This episode is a powerful reminder that illness can be an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and reconnect with the wisdom of the body, mind and soul.
About Ruth Hull:
Trained as a homoeopathic doctor, Ruth Hull is a counsellor, integrative health consultant and author who has spent more than twenty-five years helping people navigate fatigue, burnout and chronic exhaustion. With master’s degrees in counselling and health science, she brings a gentle and grounded approach to healing, weaving together trauma informed therapy, natural health and practical, realistic support.
Her work centres on helping people understand their bodies, reconnect with themselves and rebuild their energy in ways that feel achievable and sustainable.
She is the author of five widely used health science textbooks, including three on anatomy and physiology, and her new book Drowning Lifeguards offers a practical and compassionate guide for anyone feeling overwhelmed or depleted.
Through both her writing and her clinical work she aims to make healing feel less overwhelming and more human.
Her definition of Self Love is: Self Love is like a relationship. It’s what you do. It’s the actions you do. If you think of a really good relationship, it us about always being there for that person. So always being there for yourself, supporting yourself, standing up for yourself. Accepting yourself just as you are.
Her favourite quote is – Illness is an opportunity for growth and transformation, whilst recovery is just a return to the obsolete status quo.

Quotes:
Even though I was working in the health industry, along the way I suffered very bad chronic fatigue. That is when I started to really learn what healing is really about.
I wrote my book, Drowning Lifeguards, which is the book I wish I had had when I was struggling so much.
We are not just physical beings. We are energetic beings. We are made up of energy and energy needs to flow.
Reflexology will one day be proven through science but to me it is really about the flow of energy.
The body never lies.
The physical body is really just an expression of something much deeper, like our emotions, our spirit, our soul and our mental health.
I think what we are learning is unlearning that is we are learning to remove those barriers that we have grown up with.
I think we see life through spectacles and we have lots of spectacles that are put on us from our parents, our teachers, who are mean to us, from the kids in the playground.
We put all these little glasses on and they stop us seeing life as it is and they stop us connecting with deeper things.
I very much believe, especially with essentials oils. We have to remove our logical mind.
A lot of the healing happens through the smell and memories
If we can get our logical mind out the way and let the body speak that is when we will find what is good for us.
If you can stop listening to all the noise outside and actually just get quiet and find what feels good.
The quieter we get, the more we hear. The more you just allow yourself to be with yourself, the more you will be able to listen to your body.
People with fatigue and burnout are busy, busy, busy people. They are not listening to themselves.
If they were to just stop and start listening to what they really need, that is when the healing takes place.
No one really knows yet how homeopathy works but there is so much clinical evidence.
Like treats like.
Vaccination is a personal choice. There is no right or wrong way.
If we believe something to be truly safe or ok, then our body potentially can respond in a safe and good way.

In a consultation we look at the whole person, we ask a lot of questions about their background and childhood. We ask about stress and diet.

Quotes:
We are standing at a powerful threshold, moving from the year of the snake into the bold, fiery momentum of the year of the fire horse.
It is a shift in how we live, how we lead, and how we listen.
The snake is the wise one. It doesn’t rush, it doesn’t seek approval, it sheds what no longer fits.
The year of the snake has invited us into deep inner work.
Listening to our intuition, releasing outdated identities, and honouring the wisdom stored in the body.
Many of us have been asked to let go this year, not because we have failed, but because we have evolved.
The snake whispers, you don’t need to force clarity, you just need to trust it.
Have you been listening to yourself?
Favourite oils for releasing and to tap into the power of my own intuition include Frankincense, Myrrh, Sandalwood, and Vetiver.
I release what no longer serves. I trust my inner knowing. I honour the wisdom within.
The fire horse moves boldly forward.
Where the snake asked you to reflect, the Fire Horse asks will you act?
I think 2026 is about courage, action, visibility, and leadership through embodiment and living your truth out loud.
Oils that activate horse energy include ginger, sweet orange, cedarwood and cinnamon.
I move forward with courage, my energy is focused and grounded, I lead with heart not force.
A blend that bridges the two would be frankincense, sandalwood, ginger and orange.
I act from wisdom, not fear. I trust my timing, and I honour both stillness and momentum.
The snake prepared you. The fire horse activates you.
You are not here to dim your fire.
We invite you to move wisely, courageously and consciously.
This is about being consciously aware of calm power.

In this powerful conversation, Kim Morrison sits down with Millie Thomas, an eating disorder recovery coach, to share Millie’s raw and deeply personal story of surviving and fully recovering from a 15 year battle with anorexia nervosa.
Millie takes us back to her teenage years in Auckland, where perfectionism, control, and pressure became fertile ground for the illness. Despite academic achievement and outward success, she describes the inner torment, the escalating compulsions, and the heartbreaking moment at 27 when her doctor asked her to decide whether she wanted to live or die. A turning point came through unconventional but deeply human support including work with Silky, an NLP practitioner, who helped Millie reframe the disorder as a set of changeable behaviours and begin the courageous climb back to life.
Kim and Millie explore the reality that eating disorders are biopsychosocial illnesses that infiltrate every corner of a person’s world and profoundly affect families too. Millie speaks candidly about the impact on her parents and brother, the role of hope, and why recovery requires compassion and boundaries. Together they unpack how the eating disorder “voice” distorts language and meaning, why “just eat” is not only unhelpful but misunderstands the terror response, and how the recovery journey can feel chaotic while actually being a reclaiming of control.
Millie also shares how her lived experience fuelled her mission: moving to the Sunshine Coast, contributing to broader support pathways (including involvement in residential recovery approaches), and building her private practice HealED, supporting clients worldwide. The episode closes with practical insight for carers and loved ones, and introduces Millie’s Hope & Healing Affirmation Cards. A purpose built resource designed specifically to support eating disorder recovery with grounded, relevant language.
About Millie:
Millie Thomas is a Carolyn Costin Institute Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach and a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner. She battled Anorexia Nervosa for 15 years and very nearly lost her life to the illness. She was given up on by her treatment team and told to consider palliative care options. Her miraculous recovery was a catalyst for a complete career change. She left her hometown of Auckland, New Zealand and moved to her ‘happy place’ – the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Where she became determined to use her lived experience to help bring eating disorders out of the shadows and into the light. She dedicates her time to eating disorder advocacy and eating disorder recovery coaching. She helps clients around the world to gain freedom from their eating disorders and reclaim their lives.
Millie has her private practice HealED and for several years she also worked with Sunshine Coast based charity endED where she was involved in numerous projects including the establishment of Australia’s first residential eating disorders facility ‘Wandi Nerida’.
She believes that no matter how long or how hard someone’s journey with an eating disorder has been full recovery is always possible; she is living proof of that.
Her definition of Self Love is: Self-love, for me, is giving myself grace while holding hope. Never giving up on myself and choosing to live, not just exist.
Her favourite quote is from: Ralph Waldo Emerson- To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
Real success in life is being the kind of person who makes others feel safe enough to be themselves — exactly as they are.

Quotes:
I had a beautiful childhood with a wonderful, beautiful, and loving family.
Up until then I had no conception about my body other than what it allowed me to do.
I had all personality characteristics that predisposed someone to anorexia.
I still had all the thoughts, I had the same brain but different body.
I felt I had to pretend that I was doing well.
I was existing but not truly living.
You might be weight restored but you actually need to be heart restored.
Perfectionism can look like an asset, but at that point in my life it was a liability. It was toxic. The need to always do better, it is never enough.
I looked happy in all the photos from Ibiza and France, but I was miserable. I was living with a demon in my head.
My GP looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, ‘I need you to decide whether you want to live or you want to die because I need to know how to proceed with how we care for you.
There was no peace, every single thing that I did I was punished or tortured for.
The only way I could I see myself being at peace was being above the world looking down and up from a far.
I had vicious voices in my head telling me these horrible things are going to happen if you don’t do this. It is like another force that I can’t even describe.
Silky told me, you don’t have an eating disorder. It is something you do, a behaviour that has become a habit and behaviours can be changed. This was the moment when I thought she is right.
It was a real sense of empowerment.
I thought, if I die now, I will never know what it’s like to live.
I felt I owed it to myself to give life a go. If I really hated it that much, on the other side I could always go back. It was the most excruciating, tortuous time of my life.
It brought me to my knees, but it also opened the world back up to me.
I put one foot in front of the other every single day and I did it. I gained the weight, and I moved on with my life.
Recovery felt like standing on the edge of a cliff . Terrifying, unknown, but also strangely liberating.
I talk about the 3 C’s which is conscious, consistent and commitment. My eating disorder was consciously, consistently committed to ruining my life hence I had to be consciously, consistently committed to reclaiming my life back.
I often thought to myself as I was kicking and screaming on the floor in the middle of recovery “Why me?” What is the reason for this. This was the reason. I was here to use my story and turn my pain into my purpose and create change.
Those 15 years were a living hell but without them, I wouldn’t be here now, helping people find freedom, and for that I am forever grateful.
People can get well. It is not something you have to battle for the rest of your life with the right support.
I knew lived experience was gold. It is the lived experience that helps me to help my clients in a compassionate way.
Everything I do now comes from having been there. You can’t bullshit a bullshitter when you have lived it.
There was a period where my brother disowned me and said, ‘If you don’t get rid of this illness, I’m out”. Even then, all I cared about was being skinny. I didn’t care if I lost my brother.
I was so far down the rabbit hole that it was like water off a duck’s back and that still frightens me to this day.
When I think about the possibility that I may never have been an Auntie that breaks my heart.
Unless you have lived it as a family, you cannot even begin to imagine how wild that ride is.
Eating disorders prey on perfectionism. That black and white thinking of ‘you must do this’ or something terrible will happen.
The voice told me every single day, if you do XYZ, you will be happy for the rest of your life.
I fell for that spell. Hook, line and sinker. That if I had the perfect body, everything else would fall into place.
You think you are in control, but really the eating disorder is in the driver’s seat.
Recovery feels like losing control completely but it is actually you taking the control back.
As morbid as it sounds, the eating disorder’s goal is to kill you. That is its motive.
One of the most important things is to always hold hope.
Approach it with love, compassion and non judgement but also have boundaries and encourage them to reach for a different life.
Every single time you ask them to be included, they realise they still matter in the world.
Connection is key.
There was not one aspect of my life that was not affected by my eating disorder.
If you can help someone get out of their head and into their heart, piece by piece, bit by bit, that is what helps them keep going.

Quotes:
One of the most empowering skills any one of us can develop is learning to be the observer.
What if we practised zooming out and becoming the observer?
Stepping back from the emotional charge and watching the moment with curiosity rather than judgement.
It is like rising above the scene, seeing yourself and the other person from a higher vantage point.
Triggers activate neural pathways that have often been strengthened for years.
When we pause, we get an opportunity to break that automatic loop.
This is neuroplasticity in action. Your brain rewiring itself through awareness.
Even a three second pause can shift your physiology from fight or flight into rest and digest.
When you pause, when you become the observer, when you zoom out, observation opens the door to transformation.
I call it the zoom out breathe. Take one, slow deep inhalation and take a step back or upwards, as if you are watching the scene.
Name what’s happening: Say to yourself ‘I’m noticing this activation or trigger.’”
This shifts you from being in the emotion to actually observing it.
Ask yourself: What does the best version of me choose next? Is this really true?
Another thing I like to say in my head is, ‘Wow, that’s interesting.’
Anchor through sensory rituals. Essential oils like lavender, neroli, frankincense or your favourite Twenty8 blend can create a physical anchor.
Celebrate the pause. You are literally reshaping and rewiring your brain.
These micro victories of not reacting can compound into deep embodied change.
Becoming the observer isn’t about detaching. It is about holding yourself with compassion.
When you observe your thoughts and emotions without becoming them, you truly gain true freedom.
Self love isn’t something you just feel. It is something you practise in these exact moments you are tempted to react.

MUSIC INTRO & OUTRO
Many thanks to Wes and Charlotte Carr – https://wesleydeanmusic.com/
n this heartfelt episode, Kim speaks with Claire Holmes who shares her remarkable journey from a nurturing childhood in country Victoria to becoming a health educator and functional nutritionist. Her story takes a profound turn when her second child is born prematurely and begins facing complex health challenges, sending the family on a long and emotionally exhausting search for answers. Claire opens up about the devastating experience of being misunderstood and even accused of child abuse, the financial strain that followed, and the heartbreak of watching her child suffer, before finally discovering that toxic mould in their home was at the root of her daughter’s illness.
Through adversity, Claire found strength in intuition, mindset, and the power of reframing her inner world. She speaks candidly about shifting from a victim based mindset into one of empowerment through neuro-wisdom practices and subconscious reprogramming. Claire explains how deeply held beliefs, formed in childhood, can shape our health and lived experiences, and how humour, patience, and persistence play an essential role in creating lasting change.
The conversation explores the courage it takes to be vulnerable, confront buried emotions and break old patterns. Claire shares how this inner work transformed not only her health, but her family’s life, leading her to homeschool her children for several years and teach them to trust their bodies rather than suppress symptoms with quick fixes. She reflects on her spiritual approach to healing, acceptance, and compassion, and how she now supports others as a functional nutritionist by educating clients and empowering them to trust their intuition.
Claire and Kim reflect on the ongoing challenge of balancing purpose driven work and motherhood, the power of zooming out to gain perspective, and the importance of leading with love, compassion, and self trust through life’s most challenging seasons.
About Claire
Claire Holmes is a New Biology Practitioner and Functional Nutritionist. She has undergone further study specifically in Neurowisdom, Isotropics, The Microbiome, Terrain Therapy, Yoga and Breathwork, Bioelectric Therapy and the Root Cause Protocol.
Claire grew up on a farm, living in the outdoors, eating nourishing food and growing up in a loving family with three older brothers. Claire loves surfing, camping, yoga, homeschooling her two children and the deep connected relationships in her life.
Life was very smooth and easy for her until she became a mother and then life took a turn. Claire believes that thanks to the trauma, hardships and struggles; she has become the person she is, with the wisdom she now has to share with the world. Without the bathroom floor moments, she believes she would not have grown spiritually and emotionally in the way that she has. Claire wouldn’t have discovered her life purpose. She would not have been forced to find real tools for healing and have connected with the incredible healing mentors she stumbled up around the world. It’s these experiences that have shaped her life and the path she is on now.
Claire now offers health consultations and holistic wellness support. She only treats YOU and your unique STORY. She is not concerned with a diagnosis, but more on how you feel and the journey that has led you to the symptoms you have. Two people can have identical symptoms; but the cause and healing path for these two people will possibly be completely different. Everyone’s health journey is completely unique. I will deeply listen!
What she hopes individuals will come to understand after working with her is that your body isn’t faulty and just randomly breaks down every so often. She helps you understand and embody a paradigm shift and understand that your body is a self-healing ecosystem that is always working to recreate balance, health and vitality. Symptoms are just the body’s way of communicating an important and timely message. They are either a protective response or part of the body’s process of trying to heal.
Your body is incredible; if it’s given what it truly needs it will heal and regain optimal health. Everything your body is doing is for you, not against you.
Her definition of Self Love is: Self-love is honouring who you are, being your true self in every moment and not trying to be anybody else. When you get to know yourself, life just works for you.
Her favourite quote is:
More smiling, less worry, more compassion, less judgement, more blessed, less stressed, more love, and less hate

Quotes:
I grew up in country Victoria in a very loving, blessed home.
I had a mother who was very intuitive. She just knew how to give us an upbringing that really nurtured our soul and our health.
For me, travelling was a real journey of just discovering who I was.
I was happy and enjoying life, really living life to the fullest.
Something flicked in me, and I knew that wasn’t our journey.
I sat on this hospital bed for 10 weeks and I meditated and visualised to keep this beautiful girl alive.
I got to the point where I doubted myself as a mother. I said maybe I shouldn’t be her mum.
My husband stepped in, and he was incredible and he just made me come back into my truth and trust him, he gave me the confidence to move forward and trust in what I was doing and keep searching for the answers.
When we make a decision in life things just come our way and then decided that that with my whole heart that I was going to keep on fighting.
Within two weeks of moving house, we had a new daughter.
My husband is probably one of the most positive men I know. He can see the bright side.
He helped me when I sort of lost the light to see the light again.
He honours the ground I walk on, and I honour the ground he walks on, and he made me rediscover my gifts again and the beautiful mother intuition that I had.
I was sitting in this place of victim consciousness. That life is happening to me and I am powerless.
Our mind is like a movie projector onto our world.
Whatever’s playing in our subconscious, we just project on the world to create our experience over and over again.
This work is the hardest work anyone will do.
We have to expose the illusion and recreate a new story.
To reprogram a mind takes a lot of time, commitment and a big sense of humour.
You have to dive in and know that being vulnerable is actually a strength.
It is not that you are broken. It is just your program that is controlling how you show up in the world.
Everyone is on their own unique journey and it is perfect for them.
Not everyone is ready to go deep. We have to surrender.
We don’t actually have to be friends with everyone.
We can move in different directions in our life and people flow in and out.
The right people come into our lives at the right time.
Whenever there is a symptom, the body is always talking to us.
I really want to shape their belief system and give them the best start to life.
I deeply listen to their bodies.
In homeschooling I could show them the fundamentals of health that I hope they come back to that when they have challenges in life.
I have two very wise kids that understand a lot about health and they are my biggest teachers.
I help empower people through understanding why that symptom has arisen and getting them to discover why that illness has happened.
If we block a healing process, the body will have to do it again. Often worse.
I see it as educating people to empower them.
Every event that happens, we get to choose how we react in every moment.
Be conscious on how you engage in the world, these events will keep happening,
If you have the same reaction, you will create the same outcome.
When you get to know yourself, life just works for you.

Quotes:
Maybe it’s a feeling in your belly, a flutter in your heart, maybe it is the sudden stillness that you just go, hell yes, I’m in.
This is really our intuition speaking, it is our inner wisdom. It doesn’t always speak in words.
The truth before the world’s noise or interruptions or distractions get in.
The heart is not foolish, but it’s fierce and wise, and if we look at it, it beats to the rhythm of love, not logic.
When we trust our heart we open ourselves to connectedness, compassion and courage.
We can trust the body. The body never lies.
Learning to read our body signals, that is a radical act of self respect.
When the gut says no, it is probably important that we listen. When it says yes, I think it’s equally important that we lean in.
Trusting our feelings doesn’t mean reacting. Maybe it means more about honouring the messages that our feelings carry.
Nature doesn’t rush. The tree never questions whether it will bloom again. It trusts the seasons.
When we don’t trust, when we stop trusting ourselves, we outsource our own power.
You were born with that wisdom. It has been there all along. We just need to slow down and get quiet enough to hear it again.
Trust is an energy that builds with every choice aligned to your truth.
Your body is a phenomenal compass, your heart is your guide, and your mind is the translator.
Trust yourself. Trust your timing. Trust your journey, and trust that the more you do, the more your life will flow in ways that you once only dreamed possible.
When you trust yourself, you become unstoppable.

Many thanks to Wes and Charlotte Carr – https://wesleydeanmusic.com/
In this heartfelt conversation, Kim sits down with Dr Michelle Woolhouse, an integrative and holistic medical doctor, to explore self-love and health. Together, they reflect on the growing need for deeper, more human centred care in a medical system that often prioritises speed and quick fixes. Michelle shares her personal journey from traditional training to a more holistic practice, describing how burnout, time pressure, and societal expectations have pushed medicine away from empathy, depth and meaningful connection.
Kim and Michelle discuss how true healing requires looking beneath symptoms to understand trauma, emotional patterns, and the body’s innate wisdom. Michelle explains why longer, more intentional consultations allow space for this depth, and the two explore how early life experiences shape adult wellbeing. Their conversation also touches on the changing perception of doctors, the rise of integrative medicine, and the importance of restoring empathy and humanity in healthcare.
They explore the intelligence of the heart, the role of awe and nature in healing, and the need to honour rest and resilience. Both women emphasise the value of embracing discomfort as a catalyst for growth, and Michelle shares how self-love can be cultivated even when it feels difficult. Sometimes beginning with the love we receive from others.
The episode weaves together reflections on aging, personal development, intuition, and the profound healing available through connection with nature. Kim and Michelle close with mutual appreciation and a commitment to supporting people to trust their bodies, reconnect with themselves and navigate midlife with compassion and confidence.

Quotes:
I started medical school at 17 and have dedicated most of my life to health and wellbeing.
I love humans, people in general and stories that people have.
At the core of every consultation is the human being.
We are part of nature, we belong to nature.
I think most people go into medicine with a fairly significant love of humans.
The training and those early years in medicine are very gruelling and they often can wound doctors quite enormously.
Burnout in medicine is around some 70%.
We have lost reverence, for the magic that occurs in slow time.
People are starting to value depth over a surface quick fix.
There is a level of expertise that with training and through 10, 15, 20, 30 years of sitting with humans at their most vulnerable.
You are listening to in between the words.
Maybe you got your freeze response not even from anything that happened. Maybe it is just acknowledging that that freeze response was a response by your forebears to survive.
We can only take our patients as far as we are willing to go ourselves.
Western medicine is Ayurvedic medicine. It is a traditional medicine. It has very holistic imprints in its history.
Life is also medicine.
Our heart is fully functioning with its own nervous system at four weeks when the embryo is four weeks old.
The heart is like the core receptor.
The heart can learn, remember, sense and feel, all without input from the brain.
Awe is the fastest interconnection to the heart space and we should be seeking awe at our peril.
One of the things I feel we have lost is this deep respect for rest and balance and with that we lose our recovery time.
Until we get that back there is that recipe for overwhelm, over productivity, hyper vigilance and high stress.
We are teaching resilience skills rather than in the trust that the body is inherently resilient and that it does have wisdom, and we know what to do.
When we sit in comfort and don’t do these things we are at risk of losing a sense of edge and growth.
You want to be growing until the day you die.
To honour oneself is to honour life itself.
I love playing around with being a receiver of life.
Leaning into the love of others to help bring it home to yourself.
One thing that I think is missing in everybody’s personal journey is this sense of thrusting their own body wisdom and that does come with tremendous practice.
In order to garner trust, it is something that grows very slowly and can be lost very quickly.
We want to be kind in real time.
Introspection is this almost like the going within to understand that body wisdom.
To be human is to embrace the dichotomies. To embrace the extremes and understand the paradox of what it means to be human.

Wonderful conversation. Big aha around making my self love time sacred. I do different acts of selflove but I haven't made it sacred. If it is interrupted I allow it. Thankyou Kim and Dr Z, a stunning interview.
