Description

SEASON THREE: INNER MASTERY.  We are turning our attention to inner mastery. We are going to make the case that your highest leverage point for creating growth and change for yourself and in the world is through mastering your inner world.

Inner mastery means that you are free from habitual reactions that end up keeping you stuck and cycling around the same dilemmas at work and in life, so you are more present to assess what comes to meet you with new wisdom and clarity.

This becomes especially important when you want to live a life of purpose and meaning as a leader, change-maker or visionary. How you show up as a leader is going to be amplified across your organization or community — both your shadow and your light.  Others depend upon you taking responsibility for your faults and weaknesses, and for the quality and clarity of the pictures and concepts you carry. You need to become good at skills such as clear and specific communication, 100% responsibility for your projections, inspiring high performance, and creative capacity for strategy and problem solving.

One way we describe this is “what you believe appears around you.” And this is also why we say that the highest leverage point you have as someone wanting to make change, is through mastery of your own inner life.

We want to see you achieve the freedom that mastery brings so you can respond to the demands of a meaningful and purposeful life with inner agency, outer discipline, and real capacity.

SEASON TWO: THE ART OF MENTAL HEALTH — In this season the Magenta team come back to discuss mental health and wellness. We’ll draw from our own experiences with healing, and from our work helping others drawn from our research into little known fields of inner development.

We’re going to go between the phenomena we can observe about the inner life and its healing, and specific challenges such as generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and trauma.

We’ll bring practical concepts that might sometimes seem outrageously different from the prevailing understanding of mental health, share insights about a different way to work with common issues, and talk about the need for an anatomy of the inner life that can help guide us toward genuine and effective paths of healing — and put the power and agency to heal back in our own hands.

SEASON ONE: THE ART OF RELATIONSHIPS —We live in a social world. No matter what we do, our lives involve people. MagentaFM brings you stories, teachings, and contemplations about the invisible spaces between us that shape our lives and can make or break our joy, prosperity, and health. What gets in the way of fruitful collaboration? Why do we tolerate unhealthy, even toxic, behavior? And how can we work with people confidently, even creatively?

In the inaugural season we focused on the art of relationships. All relationships. With a spouse, family, colleagues, bosses and employees, the principles are the same. And how you do one thing is how you do everything so you'll likely see the same patterns showing up in many areas of your life.

We look at real-life stories, share honestly about topics that are vulnerable and typically taboo, and explore these phenomena from a western esoteric perspective. How do you solve conflict? How can you collaborate better with colleagues? What should you do about a toxic work culture? Why are bullies or narcissists showing up in your life? How can you have a healthier marriage? How to have a healthier relationship with friends and family? What to do about dysfunctional family?

Learn how to transform the dynamics we get embroiled in, and elevate the interactions we have with others.

Radical acceptance is a term that seems to be growing in popularity. Is radical acceptance really a good idea? Where should we apply this idea? And where might it cause more problems? When one is striving for inner mastery, won’t radical acceptance keep us short of our highest potential? The Magenta team look at radical acceptance in three different contexts: of reality, of the circumstances of our lives, and of the parts of ourselves that are not easy to like or accept. Within each of these c...
How can you approach your personal development work with intense efficiency? And why would someone want to take a more rigorous approach to their healing and capacity building? In this latest episode, we’ll talk about why we need to shift our mindsets from self-help junkies to young Jedis. We get into some good reasons why you should consider ...
Are you longing for more purpose? If you want to make more meaningful contributions to the world, and connect more deeply to your purpose, this episode is for you. Louisa and Rachel kick off Season Three by answering the question, “Why is spiritual development essential for connecting to our purpose?” It is understandable why we look to our outer circumstances as the place to make changes in our lives and in the world. But our inner world actually shapes our outer world. At every scale.&...
In this season finale, the Art of Mental Health Part Two, we bring some concepts and ideas that open up whole new vistas for us in preparation for our third season: The Art of Spiritual Development. There is a common assumption that the brain is the source of consciousness, and consequently our interventions are typically about fixing the brain – either through “rewiring” or drugs or other brain-based interventions. Instead, we’d like to propose that consciousness does not come from the brain,...
This week, we talk about what we call “the finished world creations of our mind” and why that is at the heart of what we experience in mental health challenges. In this part one of two concluding episodes to our mental health season, we are going to talk about what lies at the heart of inner development when you really boil it down. And that is getting to know and transforming or healing the finished worlds we create. The addictive, compulsive nature of the finished world is what we are u...
In this episode we get into an important subject in our work in Magenta: addiction. However we don’t talk about the much more common types of chemical addictions and substance abuse, nor do we get into other types of addiction such as to porn, adrenaline, shopping, and other examples of non-chemical-based addictions. Instead, we talk about a little known phenomenon of the soul where we become addicted to the ways we see things, the conclusions we draw, and the beliefs we hold about ourselves ...
This week we dive into the topic of: attunement. How do we tune in to our inner life and why is that important? Attunement is important for our inner development because to grow and transform we must follow the ubiquitous precept: “know thyself.” And how can we know ourselves if we are not tuned in to our inner world, specifically our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Attunement is something that we should experience as children from our caretakers and their attunement to our needs...
In this episode, we delve into the topic of inner development and explore what it really means. As a school for inner development, Magenta believes that it's important to clarify this concept because understanding the terrain of our inner life and its development can make any intervention towards healing and transformation more powerful and effective. Our consciousness is key to the healing process, and having a better understanding of the nature of our inner life can help us achieve tra...
In this episode, we get into the alchemy of healing our soul wounds. We explain the four archetypal stages of healing we go through when we put the work in to heal and overcome all that keeps us stuck, cycling, disempowered, and in pain.If we understand what those archetypal phases are, then we have a navigational tool for where we need to go, and what healing actually entails. We’ve got to have some kind of ability to read the terrain, or read the stars, on our path of healing. Often, w...
In this episode we do a deep dive into depression, exploring it in our typical unconventional style. We get personal with Louisa sharing her story of healing from dysthymia (a mild but chronic form of depression). And finally we lay out the path that Louisa used to heal herself. We also cover the two main aspects of depression: how depression comes about via our creation of a “finished world” and then how depression is sustained via the “being nature” of depression that takes on a life o...
In this episode we’re going to talk about the biggest danger in conventional approaches to inner work and therapy. We get into three main areas in conventional therapy practice that are problematic, and what we should consider instead. We also get into an aspect of our nature that is completely spiritual, and in our age of reductionist materialism this is going to be very controversial for some people. We are going to be dismissed and ignored for saying things that don’t have any tractio...
Anxiety. It’s a huge issue, especially for young people. This week Louisa and Rachel dissect the phenomena of anxiety and where it originates. Whether you suffer from occasional anxious states or full-blown general anxiety disorder, you may find some of the information shared here helpful. We discuss the nature of thinking, and outline how we create a mental picture that, coupled with accompanying emotions, forms a finished product that is extremely difficult to shift. We get into w...
In this first episode of Season Two: The Art of Mental Health, we describe in detail what a holistic human being REALLY is. We discuss why this matters and what society excludes in most, if not all, discussions about mental health. We get into the 4 main aspects of the holistic human being, and that we are so much more than just a physical body. We also talk about how each domain influences and effects the others, and why in our healing interventions we must include an understanding of each do...

Or, to put it more positively, what you can learn to get in touch with so that you can navigate all of your relationships with clarit...
We are always feeling but seldom do we actually pay attention to what’s happening in our feeling life. This week, we outline a path for developing our feeling life from what is normal to something truly healthy. Drawing from the work of Georg Kuhlewind, we outline two categories of feelings: cognitive feelings and non-cognitive feelings (also referred to at Magenta as “feelings” vs “emotions”). We describe the kinds of feelings that we all have that have us stuck, disconnected from the wo...
Today we revisit the topics of NEEDS but this time we explore what actually drives our needs and what to do if we are facing a “Black Hole” of needs—needs that just never feel fully met! We share a useful tool for tracing the issues that are triggering you in your life and relationships, down to the feelings, needs, and even below that to beliefs and worldviews driving them. And what does one do if they see that the worldview they are carrying is not what they want? What if your worldvie...
In this episode we get into a bigger definition of voice, where we tell Louisa's story of her struggle to find her voice, all the way down to her physical vocal cords, and what that looked like in daily life and relationship. We talk about why it's so important to free your voice from shadow, and how it impacts the rest of your life if you don't. We go into the three main areas where we get stuck in the full expression of our voice, and the consequences of not being able to speak our tru...
This week Louisa and Rachel explore concepts introduced in previous episodes but through real stories of conflict. We tell personal stories of getting into conflict with significant others where things could have gone south, but didn’t, because of the insights we are sharing on this podcast. How can we take back our power in conflict, regardless of whatever is happening with the other person? And what about conflict where one does need the other to negotiate with, like a marriage going th...
In this episode, we talk about needs versus strategies, and why conflating these two things can destroy relationships. We introduce Non-Violent Communication (NVC) as a starting point for understanding the definition of needs and strategies as a new language with which we need to become conversant — and how helpful and healing this can be.We tell some stories of the consequences of NOT knowing about needs and strategies, such as top reasons for divorce, infidelity, why making demands is so co...
