Description

Transforming a theme park into a realm of horror was a concept that would go a lot farther than Universal had anticipated. In 1991, Fright Nights became the first chapter in the book of Halloween Horror Nights™ Orlando, growing from a three-night "Halloween Party" to the monster of events it is today.

Explore Halloween Horror Nights, past, present and future with the event's creator Julie Zimmerman, also know as the HHN Queen.
Zimmerman was part of the Universal Studios Pioneer Team responsible for the design, development and building of Universal Florida.

The entire Horror community is excited by the news that Universal is set to Launch a Permanent, Immersive Horror Attraction in Las Vegas. Join Julie Zimmerman, Original Creator of Halloween Horror Nights, at Universal Studios Florida, as she voices her thoughts on what Universal may be planning for this new Attraction in Sin City. What immediate associations pass through your mind when you hear the name Frankenstein? Or Dracula? Is it an image of a flat-headed, neck-bolted green giant? Does Dracula swish around in a cloak and white tie, widow’s peak prominent, speaking in a thick Hungarian accent? Is there a Wolf Man lurking in the woods? These globally-recognized icons all have something in common – they are creations of one film studio, considered the pioneer of the horror genre: Universal.  Today Universal is the oldest-surviving film studio in the United States, having been founded by Carl Laemmle in 1912.

With the success of Fright Nights (1991), it was inevitable that the event would be bigger, better, and fabulous. The event was renamed Halloween Horror Nights (advertised as the 2nd  annual Halloween Horror Nights) HHN was sold out on all weekend dates. HNN 92 saw Universal amp up the scare factor. The goal was to bring everything that was successful in 1991 back (Dungeon of Terror, Pendragons, Thunderdome) and create a new Horror-fied Haunted House, two new Pop-Themed Shows, 100 Scare-moving Scareactors, and 4 blood bloodcurdling ride experiences and a dance party called the Monster Mash.
