Turning the World Upside Down Three keys to turning the world upside down:• Reasoning from the Scriptures• Receiving the Scriptures• Replicating the Scriptures Three keys to turning the world upside down: Reasoning from the Scriptures• 1 Thess. 1:5 for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction… Three keys to turning the world upside down: Receiving the Scriptures• 1 Thess. 2:13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted [it] not [as] the word of men, but [for] what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. Three keys to turning the world upside down: Replicating the Scriptures• 1 Thess. 1:7-9 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything. 9 For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, Isaiah 53:5-7 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being [fell] upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. 6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him. 7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.  Psalm 22:7-8, 16, 18 All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, [saying,] 8 "Commit [yourself] to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him." ... 16 For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. ... 18 They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots. The “nobility” of the Bereans:• Received the Word with great eagerness• Examined the Scriptures daily (to determine truth) The perspicuity of Scripture: The central message of the Bible is clear and understandable, and can be properly interpreted in a normal, literal sense. “Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance, the only thing it cannot be is moderately important.” C.S. Lewis James 4:13-17Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit." 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are [just] a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15 Instead, [you ought] to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that." 16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. 17 Therefore, to one who knows [the] right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

Pivotal moment in our national history“Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: ‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’” (Exodus 19:4-6)WHEN GOD CALLED ABRAHAM…“Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse those who curse you; and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed” (Genesis 12:1-3).WHEN GOD BROUGHT US OUT OF EGYPT…“...at this time I will send all My plagues to your very heart, and on your servants and on your people, that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth...indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth” (Exodus 9:14,16).WHEN GOD GAVE US THE LAW…“Therefore be careful to observe them [God’s ordinances]; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the LORD our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?” (Deuteronomy 4:5-7)If you understand then evangelistic relationship…WHEN GOD EXILED US TO BABYLON…“So it shall be a reproach, a taunt, a lesson, and an astonishment to the nations that are all around you, when I execute judgments among you in anger and in fury and in furious rebukes. I, the LORD, have spoken” (Ezekiel 5:15).WHEN GOD BROUGHT US OUT OF BABYLON…“ ‘...and the nations shall know that I am the LORD,’ says the Lord God, ‘when I am hallowed in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land’ ” (Ezekiel 36:23-24).WHEN YESHUA INSTRUCTED THE DISCIPLES…“It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).RELEVANT TODAY? YES!Romans 11:29 – “…the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable”1 Peter 2:9 -- “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light”.
Acts 16 | Planting Model Churches in ̶3̶ 4 Easy Steps--Slides:1 Corinthians 9:20-22 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. Planting Model Churches in ̶3̶ ̶ 4 Easy Steps:1. Build the perfect team (even if you must circumcise them yourself). Planting Model Churches in ̶3̶ ̶ 4 Easy Steps:2. Hear the Holy Spirit with extreme clarity and follow with perfect obedience. Hearing the Holy Spirit:• God uses open and closed doors.• Recognizing the Spirit’s leading is often gradual and unpredictable.• God uses His Word, prayer, circumstances, and the church.• Worship while you wait, minister while you move.• Don’t let circumstances get you down! Philippians 1:12 Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel… John 6:44"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. Luke 8:37-39 And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear; and He got into a boat and returned. 38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out was begging Him that he might accompany Him; but He sent him away, saying, 39 "Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you." So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. Ephesians 5:18-20 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; Planting Model Churches in ̶3̶ 4 Easy Steps:3. Evangelize, disciple, and unify people from every socio-economic, religious, ethnic, and cultural background in life.  Planting Model Churches in ̶3̶ 4 Easy Steps:4. Recognize your deep dependence on the presence, leadership, and power of the Holy Spirit no matter who you are and where you are in the process. Philippians 1:3-6I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, 5 in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 [For I am] confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Acts 15:30-41 | Encouragement and Disagreement--Slides:Theme: We steward grace and conflict. Encourage one another. Look for evidence of God’s grace, and then call attention to it. -Maybe both men were right.-Maybe both men were wrong.-God is sovereign.2 Timothy 4:11Pick up Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service.…this example of God’s providence may not be used as an excuse for Christian quarreling. -StottWhere 2 or 3 are gathered, those sinners are going to hurt each other.-Ritchie Johnson -Let the diversity of the Body of Christ cause you to rejoice.-Encourage one another. Look for grace, and then call attention to it. Hebrews 3:13But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.Hebrews 10:23-25Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging [one another;] and all the more as you see the day drawing near.Romans 12:18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. When you go through conflict, grow through conflict.Steward ConflictWhen conflict comes - preach the Gospel to yourself-The Gospel “thickens your skin, and softens your heart.”-Awareness of your need for salvation will keep you humble-Awareness of God’s love for you will uphold you-The forgiveness of Christ to you, will help you be ready to forgive others-Recognition of the Spirit’s ongoing sanctifying work in your life will help you be ready to recognize it in your brother or sister’s life as well-The Gospel keeps our hearts and minds seeking first the Kingdom and trusting Him for everything else.

Acts 15:1-30 | Contend for the Faith--Slides:Acts 13:38-39"Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.Galatians 1:8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!Genesis 17:11And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you.Mark 7:8-9"Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men." 9 He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. What about the sufficiency of Scripture? The “essentials” of our salvation live in a symbiotic relationship with the sufficiency of Scripture. They are inextricably related to one another. What are some “essential” matters of salvation in Christian doctrine? ExclusivityJohn 14:6Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.What are some lessons we learn from the Jerusalem council? We need to keep the Gospel message simple, clear, and consistent.1 Corinthians 15:3-4For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,Romans 10:9that if you confess with your mouth Jesus [as] Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;1 Corinthians 2:2For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. What are some lessons we learn from the Jerusalem council? We have some differences, but we share something greater.Acts 10:34-35Opening his mouth, Peter said: "I most certainly understand [now] that God is not one to show partiality, 35 but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him.What are some lessons we learn from the Jerusalem council?Doctrine can’t rest on experience alone.Genesis 22:18"In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."What are some lessons we learn from the Jerusalem council? The Gospel has a centrifugal force (outward), not only a centripetal one (inward). What are some lessons we learn from the Jerusalem council?A growing kingdom requires a great grace!
Acts 15:1-5 | Contend for the Faith--Slides: Jude 1:3-4Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faithwhich was once for all handed down to the saints. 4 For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Contend for the faith: “Unless you are _________, you cannot be saved.” Galatians 1:8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!  Titus 1:9holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. Titus 2:11-15For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. 15 These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you. What are some “essential” matters of doctrine?o Monotheism + the Trinity Deuteronomy 6:4"Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! What are some “essential” matters of doctrine?o The deity of Christ John 1:1-3, 14In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. ... 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. What are some “essential” matters of doctrine?o The humanity of Christ Hebrews 2:17-18Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. What are some “essential” matters of doctrine?o The resurrection of Christ 1 Corinthians 15:1-2, 13-14Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. ... 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. What are some “essential” matters of doctrine?o The sinful nature of man Romans 3:23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 5:12Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-- What are some “essential” matters of doctrine?o Salvation by grace through faith alone Ephesians 2:8-9For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, [it is] the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Romans 14:1Now accept the one who is weak in faith, [but] not for [the purpose of] passing judgment on his opinions. What are some “essential” matters of doctrine?o What about the inspiration/authority of Scripture? 2 Timothy 3:14-17You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned [them,] 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. Contend for the Faith:o We believe that grace both saves and sanctifies through faith.o We will contend over essential issues out of love.o We will debate our opinions in a spirit of grace.o We will look to the Word as God’s standard of truth.

Rescipleship  |  John 15:1-11--Slides and Lab:[Pause]Discuss, or journal:- What is a disciple? - What does a disciple do? - What is the most important thing a disciple can do in regards to making other disciples? Our theme: Apart from Christ, we can do no good thing. Rescipleship- Discipleship in the context of relationship. Relationships are how we are connected. Disciples follow after Jesus and encourage others to pursue Christ by proclaiming the gospel, teaching sound doctrine, and modeling spiritual practices. [Pause]Discuss or journal:- What is your heart clinging to right now?- Where have your thoughts been abiding this week?- Are there any false vines in your life? (control, productivity, approval, distractions, fear, money)- Who is the true vine?[Pause]Practice silence and listening for the Lord.Disciples follow after Jesus and encourage others to pursue Christ by proclaiming the gospel, teaching sound doctrine, and modeling spiritual practices. Sunday Equipping Classes: 4th Sunday of the month at 4:12pm in the youth room. LAB:Personal Discipleship:- What does abiding in Christ look like right now for you? - What would you like it to look like? - What steps can you take tomorrow?- Jesus said “deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Me”.  Is there any place in your life not submitted to Christ? Anything that you are holding onto that is keeping you from following after him in making disciples? (schedule, fear, apathy) - Do you think of Spiritual disciplines as a joy? Why? Disciple Making:- Is there anyone in your life that you are helping follow Jesus? - Is there anyone already in your life that you could come alongside and help follow after Jesus? Can you list 5 people? (neighbors, co-workers, mom you keep bumping into, gym acquaintance) - Consider your schedule, hobbies, and life. Now consider the list of 5 people you made. Is there anything you are already doing (or want to do) that you could invite one of those people into? (knitting at Waffle House, playing disc golf, rebuilding a motorcycle, taking your kids to the playground…)- What are some good questions you could ask to learn about that person’s Spiritual life? (“What brings you joy?”, “What are you most looking forward to?”, “What has been the most important book, or movie you’ve read or seen recently?”)Parents, an idea for engaging with your kids in this passage:- Show them a stick, say it is from an Apple tree - ask, can it grow an apple? Only if it is connected to the tree. Read John 15:1-11- Unplug a lamp. Ask them to turn it on. Ask - Why will the lamp not shine? It must be plugged in… Read Matthew 5:14-16
Acts 14 | Come What May: Maintaining a Persevering Faith--Slides:Habakkuk 3:17-19Though the fig tree should not blossom And there be no fruit on the vines, [Though] the yield of the olive should fail And the fields produce no food, Though the flock should be cut off from the fold And there be no cattle in the stalls, 18 Yet I will exult in the LORD, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. 19 The Lord GOD is my strength, And He has made my feet like hinds' [feet,] And makes me walk on my high places. Come what may:• Fruitful ministry will be met with opposition. Matthew 13:19-23"When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil [one] comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. 20 "The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no [firm] root in himself, but is [only] temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. 22 "And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 23 "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty." Come what may:• Faith must become personal. Acts 10:25-26When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell at his feet and worshiped [him.] 26 But Peter raised him up, saying, "Stand up; I too am [just] a man." Come what may:• Reject appeals to your pride and ego. Come what may:• We make disciples by speaking and encouraging. Matthew 28:19-20"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."Come what may:• We enter the kingdom of God through tribulation, not by avoiding it. Galatians 6:17From now on let no one cause trouble for me, for I bear on my body the brand-marks of Jesus.

Joel 2 | Prone to Wander--Slides: Themes from the Minor Prophets:• Repent from your sin and walk in obedience.• Count on the character of God.• Blessing for the righteous and judgment for the wicked in the day of the Lord. Zechariah 1:3"Therefore say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Return to Me," declares the LORD of hosts, "that I may return to you," says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:7"From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from My statutes and have not kept [them.] Return to Me, and I will return to you," says the LORD of hosts. "But you say, 'How shall we return?' Isaiah 59:1-2Behold, the LORD'S hand is not so short That it cannot save; Nor is His ear so dull That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden [His] face from you so that He does not hear. 2 Corinthians 7:10-11For the sorrow that is according to [the will of] God produces a repentance without regret, [leading] to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For behold what earnestness this very thing, this godly sorrow, has produced in you: what vindication of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what avenging of wrong! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be innocent in the matter. Zechariah 8:13'It will come about that just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you that you may become a blessing. Do not fear; let your hands be strong.' Malachi 3:10"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. Luke 6:38"Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure--pressed down, shaken together, [and] running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return." Zephaniah 3:17"The LORD your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.
The Seven Fruits of Biblical Proclamation--Slides: “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,And do not return there without watering the earthAnd making it bear and sprout,And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty,Without accomplishing what I desire,And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.For you will go out with joyAnd be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you,And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.Instead of the thorn bush the cypress will come up,And instead of the nettle the myrtle will come up,And it will be a memorial to the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:10-13)  The Fruit of Saving Faith “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)  The Fruit of Biblical Division “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household” (Matthew 10:34-36) “For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. (2 Corinthians 2:15-16)  The Fruit of Vindicating God’s Righteous Character “As for them, whether they listen or not—for they are a rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been among them.” (Ezekiel 2:5)  The Fruit of Growing in God’s Compassion for the Lost “Then Moses returned to the Lord, and said, “Alas, this people has committed a great sin, and they have made a god of gold for themselves.  But now, if You will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out from Your book which You have written!” ( Exodus. 32:31-32) “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” (Acts 7:60) “I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh, who are Israelites” (Romans 9:2-4)  The Fruit of Clean Hands and a Clear Conscience “Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them warning from Me.  When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand.” ( Ezekiel. 33:7-8)  The Fruit of Conformity into the Image of Yeshua “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.” (1 Cor. 11:1) “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.” (Leviticus 19:2)  The Fruit of Joy and Peace “For you will go out with joyAnd be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you,And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.Instead of the thorn bush the cypress will come up,And instead of the nettle the myrtle will come up,And it will be a memorial to the Lord,For an everlasting sign which will not be cut off.” (Isaiah 55:12-13)
Fasting and Feasting

Fasting and Feasting

2025-12-2851:32

Matthew 13:22-23 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”We see fasting in scripture:strengthening prayer (Ezra 8:23; Joel 2:13; Acts 13:3)seeking God’s guidance (Judg 20:26; Acts 14:23)expressing grief (1 Sam 31:13; 2 Sam 1:11–12)seeking deliverance or protection (2 Chron 20:3–4; Ezra 8:21–23)expressing repentance and returning to God (1 Sam 7:6; Jonah 3:5–8)humbling oneself before God (1 Kings 21:27–29; Psalm 35:13)ministering to the needs of others (Isaiah 58:3–7)overcoming temptation and dedicating yourself to God (Matt 4:1–11)expressing love and worship to God (Luke 2:37)seeking God’s intervention and salvation for others (2 Sam 12, Neh 1, Esther 4, Dan 9)Fasting and feasting: by denying ourselves lesser pleasures, we seek to grow deeper hunger for the greatest pleasure, God Himself.-There is no ONE way to fast prescribed in the Word. - Jesus fasted, led by the Holy Spirit. (Matt 4:1-2)- Jesus speaks of us fasting. (Matt 6:16)- The early Church fasted. (Acts 13,14)- The Bible mentions temporarily abstaining from food, drink, sex, and entertainment- Scripture mentions fasts from one day in length (Judges 20:26) to 40 days-Fasting is not a transaction. Fasting doesn’t earn answers, it sharpens faith… Fasting puts hunger into our prayers—it is prayer with the body. -Piper Fasting is more than time management. In fasting, our bodies teach our souls greater hunger, and our souls teach our bodies that joy in God surpasses the pleasures of the world.Psalm 63:1, 5, 8God, You are my God; earnestly I seek You; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and exhausted land where there is no water... My soul is satisfied as with rich and fatty food, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips… My soul clings to You; Your right hand takes hold of me.John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.Matthew 9:14-15Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?” 15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.Philippians 3:18-20 For many… are the enemies of the cross of Christ, 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who have their minds on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ… Jeremiah 15:16 When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty.Fasting and feasting: by denying ourselves lesser pleasures, we seek to grow deeper hunger for the greatest pleasure, God Himself!

Haggai 2 | Desire of Nations--Slides:“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with … ambition when infinite joy is offered to us. Like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”― C.S. Lewis, The Weight of GloryThis message is contrary to materialism- It is about the Lord’s Glory, and His ability (and promise) to provide for His people. “Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free; from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee…. dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.”John 1:14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.Hebrews 12:26-29And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, "YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN." 27 This [expression,] "Yet once more," denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a consuming fire. This is what Christmas is actually about. This is our greatest desire. Let’s desire more.

Scripture References:Luke 7:21-22At that very time He cured many people of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits; and He gave sight to many who were blind. 22 And He answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them.Luke 22:14-15 When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him. 15 And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 1 Corinthians 2:12-13Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may KNOW the things FREELY GIVEN to us by God, 13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.Matthew 7:11If you then, being evil, know how to GIVE good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven GIVE what is good to those who ask Him!James 1:17 Every good thing GIVEN and every perfect GIFT is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. Romans 11:29 for the GIFTS and the calling of God are irrevocable. Ephesians 2:8-9For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT OF GOD. 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Acts 4:12And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit. Luke 24:47 And that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, Acts 3:19 Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 10:43   everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins. Matthew 6:14-15For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.Ephesians 4:32Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.Colossians 3:12-13So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.  Matthew 5:20For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.Matthew 5:48Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.Romans 5:17, 19For if by transgression of the one (Adam), death reigned through the one (Adam), much more those who RECEIVE the abundance of grace and of the GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. 19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made RIGHTEOUS.2 Corinthians 5:21  He made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Romans 3:23-24 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God 24 being JUSTIFIED as a GIFT by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.2 Corinthians 5:18-19Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and GAVE US the ministry of RECONCILIATION, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of RECONCILIATION.John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I GIVE to you; not as the world gives do I GIVE to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.  Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the FREE GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.1 John 5:11-13 And the testimony is this, that God has GIVEN us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that YOU HAVE eternal life.Romans 12:6Since we have GIFTS that differ according to the grace GIVEN to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly; 1 Corinthians 12:8For to one is GIVEN the word of wisdom word of knowledge FaithHealingMiraclesProphecyDistinguishing of spiritsSpeaking in tonguesInterpretation of tongues.Acts 2:38  Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will RECEIVE the GIFT of the Holy Spirit.  Acts 5:32 And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him. Luke 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father GIVE the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.1 Peter 1:18-19knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.1 Corinthians 6:19-20Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.”John 1:12-13But as many as RECEIVED Him, to them He GAVE the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.  Romans 8:15-17For you have not RECEIVED a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have RECEIVED a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”Galatians 4:4-7But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might RECEIVE the adoption as sons. 6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an HEIR through God. Romans 8:16-18The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.1 John 4:16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.Romans 5:8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8Love is patient, Love is kind and is not jealous; Love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices w/the truth; 7 bear all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails…Romans 8:35-39Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written, “For your sake we are being put to death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 for I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 11:29.For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.John 13:34A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 1 John 4:7-10  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not have love does not know God, for God is love. 9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Acts Review | Holy Spirit Handbook--Slides:What do we believe the Bible teaches about the ministry of the Holy Spirit here at The Chapel? What is a cessationist?- Cessationism is the view that the miraculous (or “apostolic” or “sign”) gifts have ceased—that the end of the apostolic age brought about a cessation of the miracles associated with that age. What is a continuationist?- Continuationism is the belief that all the spiritual gifts, including healings, tongues, and miracles, are still in operation today, just as they were in the days of the early church. What would a cessationist say?1. The book of Acts is “descriptive, not prescriptive”2. The epistles (which were authored after Acts) are used for the teaching of doctrine.3. The (sign) gifts were primarily for the authentication of the apostles and the establishment of the church. What would a cessationist say?4. The (sign) gifts “ceased” after the apostles and the completion of the Bible:Love never fails; but if [there are gifts of] prophecy, they will be done away; if [there are] tongues, they will cease; if [there is] knowledge, it will be done away. —1 Corinthians 13:8What would a cessationist say?5. That the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a one-time experience at conversion where believers are filled with the Holy Spirit, joined together in the Body of Christ, and given (the “non-miraculous) gifts. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. —1 Corinthians 12:13What would a (Calvary Chapel) continuationist say?1. The burden of proof falls on the cessationist. The burden of proof falls on the cessationist.- Acts happened!Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” [He said,] “you heard of from Me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” —Acts 1:4-5The burden of proof falls on the cessationist.- The “sign” gifts will cease…when we see Jesus again!Love never fails; but if [there are gifts of] prophecy, they will be done away; if [there are] tongues, they will cease; if [there is] knowledge, it will be done away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. —1 Corinthians 13:8-12The burden of proof falls on the cessationist.- The Holy Spirit “falls on” people after their conversion. It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. 2 He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they [said] to him, “No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” … 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they [began] speaking with tongues and prophesying. —Acts 19:1-2, 6And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, —Ephesians 5:18What would a (Calvary Chapel) continuationist say?2. The Old Testament showed us a type:* The judges* Moses and the elders (Num. 11:24-25)* Saul and David* The prophets (Zech. 7:12 and 2 Peter 1:21)What would a (Calvary Chapel) continuationist say?3. The baptism of the Holy Spirit was prophesied in the Old Testament.“It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. 29 “Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. 30 “I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth, Blood, fire and columns of smoke. 31 “The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. —Joel 2:28-30What would a (Calvary Chapel) continuationist say?4. Jesus serves as a model:Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” 23 When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age… Luke 4:1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan & was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness… 14 & Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, & news about Him spread through all the surrounding district. —Luke 3:21-23, 4:1, 14What would a (Calvary Chapel) continuationist say?5. About the Baptism of the Holy Spirit: “Another Calvary Chapel distinctive is the position concerning the Holy Spirit empowering the life of a believer that is distinct and separate from the indwelling of the Spirit that takes place at conversion.” (Chuck Smith - Calvary Distinctives)What are some other distinctives of a Calvary Chapel view on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts?- We stress that this baptism equips us for service (not salvation).but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” —Acts 1:8What are some other distinctives of a Calvary Chapel view on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts?- We are a church that embraces a high degree of order. But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner. —1 Corinthians 14:40What are some other distinctives of a Calvary Chapel view on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts?- There is no single “manifestation” that indicates this baptism. All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not [workers of] miracles, are they? 30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? —1 Corinthians 12:29What do you expect?- Unity- Order- Patience- Mistakes- Seeking“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. …13 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” —Luke 11:9, 13
Acts 13 | Back to the Basics: Ministry, Calling, and the Gospel--Slides:Theme:Return to the foundation of our faith by embracing God’s calling, committing to faithful ministry, and boldly proclaiming the Gospel in every part of our lives.Worship While You WaitPhilippians 3:4–6[4] though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: [5] circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; [6] as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.  Philippians 3:7-8[7] But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. [8] Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ (ESV)The longer Paul walked with God, the more "little" he became as Jesus was made increasing greater in his life. They ministered to the congregation. They ministered to one another. They ministered to the Lord! They fasted on purpose for a purpose. Isaiah 58:6–12[6] “Is not this the fast that I choose:to loose the bonds of wickedness,to undo the straps of the yoke,to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?[7] Is it not to share your bread with the hungryand bring the homeless poor into your house;when you see the naked, to cover him,and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?[8] Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily;your righteousness shall go before you;the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.[9] Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer;you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,[10] if you pour yourself out for the hungryand satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darknessand your gloom be as the noonday.[11] And the LORD will guide you continuallyand satisfy your desire in scorched placesand make your bones strong;and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.[12] And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in. (ESV)God has a call on your life.Live it out boldly and faithfully.Success is measured by obedience - not response. Romans 10:17[17] So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (ESV)God's story for you - and others is still unfolding. Philippians 1:6[6] And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (ESV)Was John Wrong?Who was Called? Was he wrong for going or leaving?God's will always prevails, but he gives freedom in it. Paul reminds us that God's character is faithfulness.Salvation is available through Christ alone.
Acts 12:1-17 | Peace, Prayer, Prisonbreak--Slides:Theme: When we are sure of the Lord’s salvation, we can REST, we can OBEY, and we can PROCLAIM.John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.1 Peter 4:12-14, 19 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ... Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is rightPhilippians 1:21, 23-24For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. ... 23 But I am hard-pressed from both [directions,] having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for [that] is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. The Lord usually leads slowly, speaking through His Word, the Spirit, wise counsel, and circumstance. If the Lord leads abruptly, depend on Him to make it very clear.God wants you to be where He wants you to be, more than you want to be where He wants you to be. Peter obeyed each step in turn, not worrying about what came after.Joshua 11:21 Then Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hill country of Judah and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.Acts 12 is not a formula for prayer, it is a testament to God’s grace.-Pray anyway.  Our proclamation is most glorifying to God when we are sure that He has saved us.John 21:18-19 "Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will gird you, and bring you where you do not wish to [go.]" Now this He said, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me!"John 11:25-26"I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die."When we are sure of the Lord’s salvation, we can REST, we can OBEY, we can PROCLAIM.Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.Though the enemy may do harm, our good God is in control. Victory is His, and in Christ, victory is ours as well.
Acts 12 | Pain, Prayer, and Providence --Slides:Theme: Though our enemy may do harm, he will not prevail. Our Almighty God is in absolute control. Victory is His. In Christ, victory is ours as well. The Lord has given us the gifts of prayer and fellowship. We come together, and come to Him in suffering.“When we pray, we argue our issues against His character.” -ReevesHe put on a garment made wholly of silver, and of a contexture truly wonderful, and came into the theatre early in the morning; at which time the silver of his garment, being illuminated by the fresh reflection of the sun’s rays upon it, shone out after a surprising manner, and was so resplendent as to spread a horror over those that looked intently upon him…Though our enemy may do harm, he will not prevail. Our Almighty God is in absolute control. Victory is His. In Christ, victory is ours as well.Mark 10:35-39James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, came up to Jesus, saying, "Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask of You." 36 And He said to them, "What do you want Me to do for you?" 37 They said to Him, "Grant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on [Your] left, in Your glory." 38 But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" 39 They said to Him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized.”Revelation 3:19-21'Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. 20 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21 'He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.Joy and peace are bold witnesses in suffering. Colossians 3:1-3, 15Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. ... Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.Philippians 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle [spirit] be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.John 17:24"Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.“There will come a time when Jesus’ prayer for us to be with him will overrule our prayer for prolonged earthly life. And when it does, we will experience a life so far better, richer, fuller, purer, and more joyful that we will shake our heads in wonder that we were ever reluctant to leave here.” -Jon Bloom
