In this episode of the Unreal Results podcast, I’m talking about a topic that’s been on my mind as of late: the connection between the menstrual cycle and ACL tears. First & foremost, I truly believe that everyone, including non-healthcare providers & men, should understand the menstrual cycle and how it affects the body’s hormones.  I challenge the general assumptions made about ligament laxity and when ligamentous injuries frequently occur by analyzing what’s actually happening during the menstrual cycle.  I also talk about ALL of the ways that female athletes can reduce their risk of ACL tears and other ligamentous injuries.  I hope that you’re able to have some excellent takeaways from this episode and share them with anyone that has a female in their life!Resources Mentioned In This Episode:The Period Repair Manual by Lara Briden*Tina Haupert - CarrotsnCake on IGEpisode 58: The Whole Organism Approach w/ Dr. Nicole CozeanEpisode 49: Pain On The SacrumEpisode 25: The Peripheral HeartEpisode 20: Reflexive Core Stability: Lessons From My Back Surgery - Part 3Sacrum Pain - Relief Exercises You Haven't Tried... - YouTube VideoResearch Articles- Sensitivity of the fasciae to sex hormone levels: Modulation of collagen-I, collagen-III and fibrillin production- The Menstrual Cycle, Sex Hormones, and Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury- Cyclic variations in multiplanar knee laxity influence landing biomechanics- Sex differences in knee joint laxity change across the female menstrual cycle- The effects of the menstrual cycle on anterior knee laxity: a systematic review*This link is an Amazon affiliate link, meaning I earn a commission from any qualifying purchases that you makeConsidering the viscera as a source of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction is a great way to ensure a more true whole body approach to care, however it can be a bit overwhelming on where to start, which is exactly why I created the Visceral Referral Cheat Sheet. In this episode of the Unreal Results podcast, I talk about the connection of the thoracic cavity, most notably the lungs, and its impact on athletic performance, particularly during allergy season. I specifically talk about a case study with an athlete of mine who was dealing with foot pain and how the LTAP lead me to treating his lungs, ultimately resolving his foot symptoms.  I also give detailed techniques for treating restrictions in the lungs, including bronchial tube stretching. The episode is filled with practical advice on assessment and treatment strategies, which I hope you utilize the next time you work with a client similar to this.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:All Of The Books I Mentioned In This Episode*Episode 56: My Favorite Books For Sports Healthcare ProvidersEpisode 38: Accessing the Parasympathetic Nervous System Without Focusing on Breath!Episode 30: Using the 'LTAP' to Guide Treatment of Costovertebral Joint DysfunctionEpisode 9: Left Sided Sciatica Or Right Shoulder Pain?Video On How To Perform Bronchial Tube StretchVideo On How To Restore The Thoracic Curve Through Prone Breathing*This link is an Amazon affiliate link, meaning I earn a commission from any qualifying purchases that you makeConsidering the viscera as a source of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction is a great way to ensure a more true whole body approach to care, however it can be a bit overwhelming on where to start, which is exactly why I created the Visceral Referral Cheat Sheet. In this episode of the Unreal Results podcast, I have an amazing conversation with my friend, Dr. Nicole Cozean.  We talk about the significance of a comprehensive assessment & treatment strategy for pelvic floor patients, but really this approach is for every patient.   Some highlights of our conversation include treating the whole organism vs whole body, understanding the interconnectedness of the body’s systems, and utilizing systemic treatments over isolated exercises.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:Nicole's InstagramPelvic Sanity InstagramThe Pelvic PT Rising PodcastPelvic PT Rising WebsiteFinding Pelvic Sanity PodcastPelvic Sanity Website (Nicole's Clinic)Sign Up For LTAP in Washington D.C. This is a replay of the kick off call to the Results Cheat Code- The Missing Link Mini-Course. One of the things I hear from sports healthcare professionals is that in their day to day, theylack the confidence to guarantee results for their clients. What most sports healthcare professionals miss is the ability to trust the wisdom of the body and be able to listen to it to guide the treatment sequencing. When you know where to start by listening to the body you will get fast results that stick using any tool or treatment approach you like. Getting consistent results like that will improve your confidence and have you feeling inspired by every client's session, even the most complicated clients, without having to learn ANOTHER treatment system.  The Results Cheat Code is rooted in the beliefs that the patient’s body knows best, the SI joint connects everything, AND where you start matters. In this course, you will learn how to use a foundational orthopedic test that assesses SI joint mobility and “asks the body” the 1st of 3 important questions: “Is there something you are protecting?” Asking the body simply means performing a manual assessment and allowing the results to guide treatment. The SI joint is unique in that it has a direct connection to everything- visceral organs, the central nervous system, the myofascial system, and the peripheral nervous system. This makes it a PERFECT joint to use for a full- truly whole-body assessment. And perhaps this is the reason why SI joint dysfunction is so common yet not always easily treated. The Results Cheat Code will provide you with a new lens of view on an old assessment that will not only make dealing with SI joint issues easy but allow you to see how it influences all aches, pains, and injuries you encounter. Based on the results of the assessment the body directs you to know if the SI joint mobility is being affected by the visceral organs, the central nervous system, or the musculoskeletal thus allowing you to know EXACTLY where to start treatment because when you know exactly where to start treatment you will get better results so you can- spend less time repeating treatment techniquesrequire fewer treatment sessionshave happy clientsgain confidence that you guarantee results and can help anyone Watch on YouTube for a limited time: https://youtu.be/G-KayuzqCKMInterested in learning more about the locator test assessment protocol (LTAP)? Where do I start treatment for an athlete complaining of Achilles tendon issues?  The same place I start every evaluation - the LTAP (locator test assessment protocol). This directs me to where the body is protecting and what the underlying driver of changing the dynamic alignment, function, and pain is.  I still look at the movement and orthopedics of what was going on and likely stressed the tissue - but the story of something being “tight”, “weak”, or “inhibited” is gone. I talk about all of this and more including my entire breakdown of a recent case I had of a track athlete complaining of Achilles pain.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:Episode 54: A Better Way To Assess The SI JointThe Results Cheat Code- The Missing Link FREE CourseSign Up For LTAP in Washington D.C. In this episode of the Unreal Results podcast, I chat with my long-time friend, Dr. Sara Asadoorian to delve into the world of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture, and their application in treating movement, pain, and injuries. With Sara’s extensive experience in TCM, she explains the influence of visceral organs and the nervous system on holistic health. We talk about how seemingly unrelated bodily functions are interconnected through the principles of TCM, including the organ clock and the concept of yin and yang. We also talk about the importance of integrating various medical practices to center patient well-being and how traditional treatments like acupuncture and Qigong can complement modern physical therapy and sports medicine.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:Episode 40 - Healing and Wellness: RemadeDr. Sara's WebsiteDr. Sara's Masterclass: Your Secret Advantage Over PainDr. Sara's InstagramConsidering the viscera as a source of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction is a great way to ensure a more true whole body approach to care, however it can be a bit overwhelming on where to start, which is exactly why I created the Visceral Referral Cheat Sheet. The Elbow Episode

In this episode of the Unreal Results podcast, I explore the various challenges of treating elbow pain, using a specific case study with one of my throwing athletes.  As always, I emphasize using a holistic assessment that considers visceral and central nervous system influences rather than just focusing solely on any dysfunction located at the elbow joint.  I firmly believe by using this approach you will have more effective and lasting results by aligning treatment with the body's protective patterns and shifting patients into a parasympathetic state.Resources Mentioned In This Episode:Episode 16: Why The Shoulder Comes LastConsidering the viscera as a source of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction is a great way to ensure a more true whole body approach to care, however it can be a bit overwhelming on where to start, which is exactly why I created the Visceral Referral Cheat Sheet. Inspired by the trend on social media I share what my professional development plan would be if I was starting over in my career, fresh out of college. There are some big missing pieces in the industry as far as movement science and bridging the gap between rehab and performance that would be the focus as well as learning about a more whole organism lens of view earlier including the viscera, nervous system, and neurology. I reflect on the 20+ years of continuing education and professional development I have taken and pull out some of the highlights and still solid education that I pull from years later. I also emphasize the important role mentorship plays in the integration and assimilation of information and the art or creativity that patient care requires.
